I think Stringer's second biggest problem is that he was impatient and naive [A tie]. His second is that he was sneaky/devious and has no moral or personal love for "the game". He had a short temper. I believe he thought he was the smartest man in the room. Someone like Stringer would have been better suited for organized crime where there's no real familial bond. Stringer as a partner is great. If you're under Stringer however he views, you as a pawn. He is by far the worst leader in the drug game. Stringer treats his subordinates like shit. I remember Slim Charles (who at that point is clearly number 3 in the org) walked in to tell Avon something and Stringer ask him "what the fuck do you want?". Stringer likely watched Avon Barksdale family members get push through the ranks despite not being cut out for it [Deangelo] while maybe he watched more qualified people get overlooked. Stringer does not care for the history of the game, its code, it's ethics and is just all about money. Stringer honestly has a lot of the WORST characteristics from other bosses on the show. He has Marlo lack of care for the code of the streets/history of the game. Prop Joe's deviousness/mischievous nature, and The Greeks manner about doing "business" and is a hyper capitalist that puts the dollar before everything. Prop Joe is devious, but he's also known for doing good business, is likeable, and respects the game. Marlo is cold, but he is also extremely street smart and perceptive. Had he consulted Avon he could have verified if Charlie Sollers was a real person, had he consulted Levy (the lawyer) he could have told him about Clay Davis or been present. His impatience and pursuit of the dollar drive him, which leads me to my next point about something that may not be implied. Stringer sort of looks down on Dee because he benefits from Avon's name, but so does he. Avon's biggest downfall is his love for family. Even though Stringer is his best friend, for all intents and purposes he's, his brother. Avon mentions the story of stringer stealing a badminton set for no reason and running. Also, before Stringer admits to killing Dee Avon mentions "not hard enough, no offense...I don't think you ever really were". Which means he knew Stringer wasn't built the same way he was but kept him around for his mind and he sort of protecting him even to his detriment, like he did all of his other family.

I just realized the actors that played Avon and D'Angelo are both older than Edris Elba, this kinda changes my whole perspective of the characters because i always thought Stringer was the oldest, not the youngest but it makes sense judging by his actions

String was definitely a "short term smart" dude. In all honesty he should have offered to buy wholesale from prop Joe. He was already wholesaling to other big time dealers in the area. Even if he would have offered a little more for the brick, he would have accomplished two things at once. Keep the territory and even out the market.
