Season 3: Herc is certain he's seen Avon Barksdale back in town. Herc: " Think I locked him up, Avon what's his face"

Hi like how he's flexing that he locked up Avon Barksdale as if he did it singlehandedly.
@DodderingOldMan Жыл бұрын
Ha, yep, he really doesn't give a fuck. That's why I thought it was so grimly hilarious what they did to his character, having him basically fail upwards into a cushy job working security for the mayor, lucks into becoming the mayor's special 'friend' after accidentally witnessing him getting a blowjob, and then even when he gets sacked from that he gets to be a supposed 'private investigator' for Levy, which I have to imagine is incredibly lucrative. Not only that, the fact he randomly fires a nail from Snoop's nailgun is crucial in later matching it to the bodies in the vacants, and also flagrantly breaches client-attorning privelege by handing over Marlo's phone number. He goes through the entire show not giving a fuck and manages to be both highly rewarded and crucial to investigations. Oh, and let's not forget that he also basically ruined Randy's entire life through his carelessness. So much going on in that show.

All the work they did seems to have gone to waste. But it's almost a waste of time anyway when you think about it. Avon gets popped and Marlo takes over anyway, they get Marlo out of the way and Slim and the others take over. It's like in the movie King of New York, "I'm not your problem, I'm just the business man" - Frank White.
@thesuperstar62569 жыл бұрын
In fact, the cops are sometimes counterproductive. They arrest Avon before he can kill Marlo and Marlo takes over the streets and starts murdering people who haven't been involved with the law enforcement or the criminals like the lady in Andre's store and the security guard. The cops who end up winning are the cops who acknowledge that they're one of the people benefiting from the war on drugs (because of their salary and their authority over the drug dealers).

@duewest19878 ай бұрын
@@PreeMarketI think the point is Herc is a bit dim, and doesn't really follow the thread. He knows a bunch of names and police jargon but doesn't know how to assimilate them into a coherent worldview. Two things I love about this scene. And why The Wire is so special. There is NO exposition. Herc was on the detail in series one to put Avon behind bars and they wrote him to not remember the exact details. Thats realistic. I hate when characters in other shows just word facts flawlessly with impeccable fluency. Another thing I love is that they didnt have Herc with Carver. They mix and match characters. Another realistic approach.

0:53 - This is where Avon needed the old String. String, back when he was loyal to Avon as the 2nd in command. String would have told Avon that they should scope out Marlo to see what he was up to. String would have gotten someone to infiltrate their crew to find out what was going inside Marlo’s crew, while Avon setup shop. Avon was naturally a better King then String, but Avon really needed a loyal String as the ‘Queen’ of the operation, to go out and get stuff done. Slim was good in his role, but he lacked String’s business/operational savvy. United Avon and String take down Marlo’s crew no problem. The Barksdales faced a formidable challenge with Marlo, but they essentially collapsed from within.
@brandonethereal10846 жыл бұрын
Couldnt have said it better. People give String too much credit in trying to reform the drug trade. He should've stayed in his lane and never got off track. I can't lie when I hear the music playing in the background of these video's, it makes me miss music from back in the day and how much better it used to be. Now it's all about the 808 bumping or the auto tune sounding good to where anyone can be a rapper these day's lol. Back then you had to be witty and sound good. You had to bring bars, make your own style and prove why you deserved to be on top. From word play to songs telling you a story that made you visualize it in your head. For example Em's Stan or Biggie Notorious just to name a few. Now 90% of song's are just about bragging about what they bought or drugs and girls they gotten up with lol. Ya miss the older stuff forsure. What about y'all? You miss the old rap with word play and bars? Or do you not care an just want the 808s to bump?

@@StainsStainsStains The difference is back in the day from artists you had to be more talented then the person before you could make it in the game. They had to rely skill, word play and actual skill to produce good music. Now these day's none of that matters cause as long as the 808's are bumping and you throw autotune into their vocals is the only way they sound good. Take that away and what you got? Talentless kid's that rely too much on technology to be good. My overall point is you can't compare real rap to today's rap because it's not the same. Yes some people these day's do have talent and I respect them for that. They deserve where they got and it's no shame towards them. But if you listen to the ones without talent or autotune it's night and day compared to how it was back in the day. You could take LL Cool J and put him against any artist that uses autotune and make them rap on a mic and see the difference js. That's my whole point. You're entitled to your own opinion and it doesn't have to be the same as mine. But as long as you respect mine I'll always respect yours :) have a good day 😊

you would think experienced police officers woul be familiar with the fact of criminals getting out early in any kind of sentence without a mandatory minimum. Knowing Barksdale's status- they should have just known he would get out as early as the law was going to allow. Fuck it- you would think they got a lot of worse problems to solve than him.

He got out early on a deal. He wasn't supposed to get out that early.

He is the leader of a huge heroin distribution organization. They were correct in assuming a parole board wouldn't let him out so early. It was impossible to anticipate that Avon would be able to trick the prison officials into letting him out early.

And he was let out early for something nobody saw coming. He brought in tainted heroin and framed a CO for it. None of them knew that would happen.

It does seem to me like the prison did a good job at keeping the heroin story out of the papers, same for D'Angelo's death.

Avon: "Who them bald-headed bitches sittin' in they cars next to my corners?" Slim: "No worries V, they only pawns." (Translation: an advantage needs to be pursued in the endgame, and learning how to make favorable exchanges leading to a favorable endgame is an important skill.) Avon: "Ay ight. Once they move forward one square block, you take back my corners. Control the center board and all dat." (Translation: I consider a preponderance of pawns on the queenside (queenside majority) an advantage because this might be used to create a passed pawn.)
