Do you remember the opening scene where Omar, his brother Anthony, and Anthony's friend were in an alley plotting to rob a man at the bus stop? You could tell how Omar's principles(OR CODE) took shape and form? He did not rob for small amounts of money, he was not into robbing the average everyday citizen, and this is the point where you can definitely see his boldness being established & cemented. All of this occurring as a young boy. I don't know if anyone caught that scene or not (?), But after Omar pointed his gun at Anthony's friend to give the man (at the bus stop) back his money (after robbing him), the friend turns to Anthony and makes the comment that Omar was "not built for this..." 🤨😄

There's a nice "Wire prequel" that shows Omar brother, "No Heart" taking him out mugging people, only to find that Omar doesn't like robbing working people just getting off work, and even though the hood they brought with them openly disdain's little Omar, No Heart Anthony just expresses a warm acceptance of his strange little brother who grew a big heart in the darkest of places. There's a few of these types of scenes in the series, but they come naturally. They don't feel like they have to stop the flow of the show to deliver exposition like Law and Order does.
@samuelstensgaard48289 ай бұрын
The reason Law and Order always has scenes of characters talking as they walk, or stack crates, or whatever, is because most of the times the characters aren't saying anything interesting and the show needs to have movement to keep the viewer engaged. The Wire arguably has the most substantive dialogue in the history of television, so a lot of the time it's delivered while characters are just standing still and you don't notice.

Never did understand the reference to the .44 and a contact wound... Isn't the .44 a large caliber, and aren't contact wounds generally more destructive? Clearly Anthony missed his heart (maybe he didn't know where his heart is?) but wouldn't a shot to the chest like that still be lethal, or at least more damaging than a laugh and waking up 2 hours later?
@jdlucero9203 жыл бұрын
Since a .44 is a stronger than most, he probably missed his heart. If it was a smaller caliber it would’ve bounced around, but since it was a 44 it probably went straight through his lower shoulder high chest
@charlesvick5 Жыл бұрын
I think he only had the contact wound part - just the powder burns on his skin, and he flinched or disassociated or something when he pulled the trigger. And would have to be holding the gun in a really funky angle - right hand aimed at the chest with his index finger still on the trigger, coupled with a long gun, coupled with flinching? Luck?
@guyb66655 жыл бұрын
A .44 is a big powerful gun right? Does this mean the recoil was so big, that the gun kicked back before the bullet left the barrel and didnt go through his body, just grazed it?
@MaxxCoyote5 жыл бұрын
Hard kick, bad angle. A "contact" wound is typically from the expanding gases. Likely, the bullet didn't even touch him. Hence all the scorn. Not only did he try to kill himself, but he completely fucked it up.
@jeremybrown96115 жыл бұрын
Yeah he fucked up his own suicide
@thomasdemay98054 жыл бұрын
@@MaxxCoyote the bullet definitely touched him. The nickname isn't scornful. A contact wound is in addition to the wound from the projectile. The exception would be if you were shooting a blank and there was no projectile. In that case the contact wound is still a very bad potentially fatal wound. The "no heart" is not scornful it's a joke because he missed his heart and survived both the bullet and the contact wound which is extremely low odds as the contact wound itself could kill you. Then factor in "No Heart" shot himself with a very powerful gun a 44 so the contact wound is going to be brutal and the bullet is big and it's going to do alot of damage. It's supposed to be funny because it implies the bullet DID hit him but there wasn't a heart inside of him to be damaged by either the bullet or the contact wound and that would explain the 1 in a million odds of his survival. It's supposed to be a joke like he was walking around and live all those years without physically having a heart pumping blood to his body and that's why when he tried to kill himself that way it didn't work.
@thomasdemay98054 жыл бұрын
@@jeremybrown9611 no he was just very lucky the bullet missed. The contact wound means the gun was directly on his chest which means you can't tell if the angle is a little bit off and the barrel isn't lined up with a vital organ. the gun must have been tilted at an angle just a little bit off where it missed the vital organs. The "no heart" part isn't even meant to be derogatory it's a joke because the bullet missed his heart and he survived so the joke is that he was alive the whole time without physically having a heart in his body which everyone knows is impossible.
@c3wichman4 жыл бұрын
Here is the best way I can explain it. Take a pen and place the tip on your chest above your heart, if it was a gun you would die. Now place the side of the pen next to your chest, and you can see that you might lose some skin but nothing vital. It's easy to do with large handguns as they can be over 8 inches/400mm long, making for an awkward angle if you don't plan it out. It speaks to the power of a .44 that he was knocked unconscious by a rather superficial wound
@indecentanalyst4 жыл бұрын
can someone explain me how you can wake up with only a contact wound with a .44 caliber? I don't get it.
@MrRagnarxx4 жыл бұрын
He probably fucked up the angle, shooting yourself front on in the chest is not as easy as it sounds, you either have to rotate your wrist to a weird angle or hold it in a weird way - at least that's how I imagine it
@andregordon25994 жыл бұрын
Yeah is arm.or wrist likely rolled out of it. These things are not unknown, and the The Wire has a.lot of stories based on real life Bmore criminals, including Omar himself, so it is probably real

Here is something here that I don't understand: what's the relation between a contact wound, a .44 and Anthony living. Ok, he put a .44 to his chest and lived. Where does the contact wound fit in ? Is the pistol caliber too small for a fatal wound ? Because he pressed it upon his chest he escaped with his life ? If someone could shed some light on this, I'd really appreciate it.
@LAMEHERC19 жыл бұрын
Zamolxes77 i dont know much about guns but .44 caliber is massive. if you get shot with one it will pretty much blow a hole in your body. im guessing that he he pointed it at a bad angle and it grazed his chest.
@3of119 жыл бұрын
+Zamolxes77 .44 Magnum is a revolver caliber, made famous by Dirty Harry, as it "would blow your head clean off". Actually, it probably wouldn't blow it CLEAN off but its a very powerful handgun round, can be used for hunting and is chambered in lever action rifles. Point is, not managing to kill oneself with a .44 makes one either very lucky or very incompetent, or a good helping of both. Contact wound = non-lethal, a very narrow angled shot. But to drug dealers, hearing he shot himself in the chest but lived must mean he didnt have a heart (no vital organs hit).
@323guiltyspark6 жыл бұрын
There are areas of the chest where it is possible to survive a penetrating wound, so long as the penetration does not mess with any organs. A .44 is a very powerful round, but it's most devastating effects comes when the hollowpoint mushrooms inside the body cavity. However, at it's highest velocity, when it exits the barrel, it can punch right through soft tissue with minimal deformation. It's possible No-Heart Anthony had a through-and-through with the bullet missing most of his major organs.

The kickback
@CGoody5646 жыл бұрын
Maybe pressed it up against his chest and pulled the trigger when it was at a steep angle as opposed to facing his chest (ie pulling too early instead of making sure he was actually aiming steadily and correctly where he wanted) It's funny because a .44 would absolutely blow a ridiculous hole in someone, whether at point blank range or yards away. He obviously fucked up when attempting to shoot himself lol
