Yeah, that's no military exercise or bolster, that's real damage done to enemy infrastructure. What do they gain by doing something this bold if they have no intention of moving on Taiwan until 2028? Just practice?

I spent 25 years firefighting and investigating fires in Southern California. Here's a few thoughts that may or may not help with your next update. The two most likely causes are homeless encampments especially because this was the first real cold snap of the winter, and power lines. Less likely but still common, are arson and fires related to vehicles or equipment. No, cigarettes and direct energy weapons did not cause these fires. Further on down the list is children and fireworks.
@BanjoZZZ2 күн бұрын
People getting stuck under evacuation route is the perfect example why evacuating is not always the best option. But the government and fire managers need blanket statements to make, so that statement will always be "evacuate" even when it's not the safest thing to do. Another clown comment I see relates to Forest management. No these fires are not crazy because the forests and vegetation are poorly managed. Some of these areas that we are seeing have burned to nothing just a few years ago, and we're seeing them reburn with a vengeance. In the chaparral brush type the area can easily burn within 2 years when pushed by winds. Obviously a brush covered area that is not burned in 50 years will burn more intensely than one that burned two years ago, but each fire will destroy homes and is completely uncontrollable when winds are over 20 mph the humidity and fuel moisture are low.
@BanjoZZZ2 күн бұрын
Of special note by a reporter while she watched home burns, I don't see any fire equipment here. This is extremely common on every single one of these fires. There is not enough resources. Even when fire management stops ordering resources, it's not because they don't need more, it's because they have enough to pretend that they have control of the situation. Independent, decisive, and timely action is most important in fires like these, but this is not how fire agencies operate. Most homes will be saved by individual homeowners and fire suppression resources acting on their own.

The undersea cable being cut is morbidly amusing to me because recently the Minister of Economic Affairs from Our Dear Leader Lai's party promoted the party goal of completely abolishing nuclear power in Taiwan and hope of making up the shortfall by importing Filipino electricity via undersea cables. I was going to say I should stay away from Taiwanese political brain rots for a while, but then it's bound to come my way later......
