I think there's an "effective supervisor" like that in every industry. They are smart enough to know what they don't know, lazy enough to not care and excel in the art of tolerating as long as nothing can be blamed on them

The funniest part to me is one second later, at 0:33 . Asher gets this look in his eyes when Lester repeats, VERBATIM, what Rawls said when he bounced him. You see this realization comes over him and it's this recognition of what he's become: "Well, I guess I'm kind of a joke about a beach house. Oh well: at least I get paid and I get treated well." It's really hilarious choice on the actors part IMO as such a minor role.

I can't imagine Asher is oblivious to this or really gives a shit. Asher gets to spend time focusing on what matters to him, his group is self motivated to do the work without his delegation, and he gets paid through all of it.

The best boss: Lazy but smart Next-best: lazy but dumb, but you have capable workers who are motivated so everything goes smoothly (Freamon, Kima etc) Worse: smart and diligent - makes you work too much and if you have workers that clash with your style it's gonna suck (Rawls to a degree) Worst: Dumb and diligent - Lt. Charles Marimow and also Burrell

The difference between Asher and Marimow is something I've experienced myself Used to work as a salesman for a software company. Myself and the department didn't have a direct supervisor for almost 3 years, the managing director would do some of the administrative side of things but we were by ourselves. It ran perfectly, probably the most relaxed and yet the most effective I was ever at work Got a supervisor, late 30s, blonde woman. She ran the department down in less than 6 months. Texted all 6 of us 100-150 times per day, wanted to be in bcc on every single mail we sent out, hours upon hours of one on one meetings. Turned the entire department upside down when a single fucking digit was entered wrong in the CRM. Always blamed everyone for every minor issue, but never realized that her behavior fucked all of us up. Sales dropped to less than a fifth of what we did before, myself and 3 others left the place. Got bought up by a competitor A boss that doesn't do shit is ALWAYS better than a micromanager. Sometimes even better than a boss that does what a boss usually takes up

To have a hands off supervisor. You don’t want a hands on supervisor, coz he’ll definitely coach every step of the way. Daniels was better and Marino was worse. The beach house supervisor was shipped off for concentrating on his beach house instead of supervising his unit. Basically he’s the best supervisor
