The way Carver looks at the graffiti on the wall of the boys names was a bitter sweet moment. Showing that even though they were young knuckle heads he chased around, ran them off the corner, or locked them up, this moment right here 2:56 really showed the care he had developed for all of the boys after seeing how things turned out for them.

That look he gives towards the graffiti actually gives me the opposite impression - his look is harrowing. It’s a recognition that the evolution of children from innocent to criminals within this environment is inevitable because it corrodes anything within it. That the same children he chased off today will inevitably end up as corner boys and soldiers if they stay, and that one day Carver will likely meet these kids on opposite ends of the law. He looks defeated and haunted because he knows he is powerless to stop this decay but, as a cop, he is tasked with combatting it.

There was a real theme of fatherhood in this season. Prez and Dukie, McNutly and Bodie, Chris and Michael, Carver and Randy, Namond choosing between Wey-Bey and Colvin, Bubbles and Sherrod, etc. This ultimately made the season more powerful, as this could represent us - fathers or sons, falling prey.

Most people say Dukie had the most tragic end of the four boys. I'm tempted to say Randy had it worse than him. He's gonna be attacked and hurt as long as he lives in that group home, getting bitter and violent, just like Bodie was back in Season 1. Interesting how the writers took Namond, the boy that seemed most likely to turn to the streets in the first few episodes, and gave him a way out of the game by the end.

When I first heard about the plot to season 4, I thought it was gonna be a terrible idea. And then I watched it. The first three seasons were great, but four was something beyond that. If what happened to those kids didn't break your heart and make you wanna scream out in rage and frustration, then you really weren't paying attention. Sometimes fiction tells us some very hard truths. This season is the best example of that I've ever seen.
@omarrahman140
@omarrahman140 3 жыл бұрын
This season has the been core of the show, I think. It completely shows how a loop is formed that goes on for generations, how these kids are left with no choice but to be in those corners for survival. The season wrapped up the drug thing, how they get recruited in it without any choice. It's shows the conditioning and socialisation of these corner kids. Great writing great show man huge respect

This is season didnt seem fictional to me . I worked at a school in atlanta GA. Projects were right across the street. This season 4 the wire depicted everything that happened at the school. This stuff is very real an atlanta streets an crime is getting worse. The wire is the realist TV show I’ve ever seen. This show as a whole encapsulated everything that goes on in society at every level.

The four boys conclusions were some of the most emotionally powerful conclusions in the show for me. Seeing Randy being beaten and abused by a bunch of pathetic insecure bullies that weren’t even involved is so infuriating and you know things won’t improve for him, at least not for awhile. Even when people like Carver try to help him the system itself makes it near impossible. And seeing Duke lose more and more is just heartbreaking. Likewise it still makes me so incredibly happy that Namond was able to get a happy conclusion. He seemed like the worst of the four, and while he was the best of them financially in the beginning, he was also the most likely to die before 25. So seeing him realizing he’s better off away from the streets and getting adopted by Colvin (who also deserved a happy ending after season 3) felt so good.

One of the things I loved about this show was how it didn't rely on any one character to carry its brillance. Before I watched season 2, I couldn't imagine the show without D'Angelo but they made that happen, they even stepped away from Mcnulty in the 4th season and focused on Prez etc, etc and then flipped right back to Mcnulty for the 5th and it worked...I don't know of any other show that I could say the same for.

WheresWallace4883 it’s really amazing when you take into account what happened at the end of season 3. One of the biggest characters gets killed, another goes to prison and doesn’t even appear in season 4. The closest thing to a main character in the show is McNulty and he has a much smaller role in season 4. Season 4 doesn’t just “not fall off”, it’s just as great (better IMO).

Apparently this was more a reference to the kids that Simon covered in The Corner - the CMB crew who were Deandre’s friends. The only thing that would have made season 4 better would have been a scene with Brother Mouzone. He wouldn't even have to do shit. Just a scene of him reading his Harpers magazine on a bench in Central Park would do.

+AwesomeNightman Agreed. Omar was over the top, but supremely likeable. The show could allow for one. Mouzone was a step too far, especially when you add in that they're the duo that took out one of the best characters in Stringer.

+Morgan Lee As much as I did like Mouzone he was in for the perfect amount of time. With Stringer dead and Barksdale arrested and falling apart, he has no reason himself to stay behind in Baltimore. His character arc was done there; anything else then would've been fanservice or find some excuse to rewrite him in the plot. However there were a couple of NY dealers that were mentioned throughout S4. Could be tipped off by some info.

I never noticed it before, but the kids who vandalized Randy’s bunk and beat him up also stole his ~$250 or whatever it was (his nest egg from all his hustling selling candy) out of the red binder w see him putting it in early in the episode. Poor Randy.

Tom Thumb I just started this show like a week ago. I'm halfway through season 5. So. Now I know what happens to Omar, my very favorite. Your comment is the best. I couldn't agree more. You know that piece of shit didn't last long. Kimmy and Renaldo (sp) are still around.. I hope. I'm glad you appreciate Omar. I am not mad bc I don't expect spoiler alerts when the show ended years ago. I just shouldn't have read any of the comments when I haven't finished watching. Anyway my point was glad there are other Omar fans.

I would argue, however, that Namond simply elevated the role he played in the game. Namond's trajectory suggests he could very well end up as a Clarence Royce or Clay Davis. With luck, he could be a Tony Gray, but just because he's off the streets doesn't mean he's completely removed from that world. I think his nod to Donut at the end of the montage confirms that.

The Wire gets better and better. 1st season was okay for me, kinda felt bored TBH. I was like, why do people praise this show so much? Season 2 was good. Season 3 was awesome. Season 4 was brilliant, so much emotion and realism. I'm about to start season 5. The acting soooo good. This show has one of the best cast especially the kid actors. One my favorite shows besides Breaking Bad,Game of Thrones, and Lost(I know some people were disappointed on the show but i loved it watching it altogether

Agreed. I also love just how many well written and developed characters there are. I've seen lists like "Top 50 Characters of The Wire" online and it's not a stretch. Mcnulty, Omar, Avon, Rawls, Carcetti, Michael, Frank Sobotka, Prop Joe, goddamn I could keep listing names for another 5 or so comments with KZbin's comment size limit. Seriously though, even a show as amazing as Breaking Bad only has like 5 or 6.

That is true, I suppose what I find most tragic about Dukie is that when we first saw Dukie he was easily the worst off but he did end up getting a taste of a slightly normal life. Then when he became adjusted to that he ended up on the streets becoming just another addict.
