I always enjoyed the subtle ways the wire would tell the story of particular characters to give you a outlook on what would become their eventual end. This is one of those scenes subtle but signs of things to come. D'Angelo as a character always demonstrated he wasn't like the rest of the Barksdale crew. Barksdale crew were strict discipline always kept things seen never heard. D'Angelo walks in a ask a blatant incriminating question "where does it all go" lol why the hell would you ask that? Thats a question clear off the code of silence. Stinger's silence then slight chuckle was a small response with a ton of meaning. Basically saying "why would you ask a police ass question like that? If it wasn't for your uncle you would be behind a bush somewhere stinking"

That is not example of a *consumer* driven market, as you say, because it is the manufacturer or even business owner making all decisions about his product and busniess practice. If were consumer driven, the customer hold majority power, excercising the liberty and prudence to refrain from buying the product. Here in the Wire, as well as our economy at large, the consumer is driven by the busniess owner - not the other way round.

@@KingDrudge exactly. Why would we. People will always pay to simp for a twitch thot or an onlyfans thot and justify it when she barely gives them any real/genuine play. F it, they wanna pay then let them pay. People will always pay for NBA 2K and justify it when the game is the same rehashed nonsense. F it, they wanna pay then let them pay. People will always preorder games again and again even after a company burns them time and time again. F it, they wanna pay then let them pay. This is coming from someone who wants consumers to be more educated, more aware and more cautious so that they make informed and better choices, but they’ll argue against you and even curse you out just for giving ‘’unsolicited advice’’ and feeling like you’re telling them what to do with their money. It's an interesting point on entertainment. I'd say there has been an appreciable shift toward higher quality entertainment in the last few years. I think people became tired of the old model of free programming but having to sit through hours of advertisements, they would rather spend $10 a month on a subscription for good quality content. Food, it's debatable, and I reckon depends on how you define 'quality'- McDonalds is bad for you, but tastes good and is consistent, people will always come back for more.

@@joshradcliffe8563 It's also about technology and changing lifestyles. Streaming at a moment's notice let TV shows have more complex storylines, larger budgets and hour-long episodes. Before in daytime TV, it was always 30 minutes (minus commercials) and the plots were simpler so even if someone missed an episode it wasn't a big deal (or it was easier to explain by a friend).

It really doesn't. Unless there is zero competition, no one buys from the shitty dealer again if they have another one which is better. I haven't even seen all the wire but from comments on this video apparently this guy contradicts himself in season 3 saying its all about the product.

No, not really. Even if a dealer wants to cut his product to make more profit, he can make an exponential amount more profit by buying the higher purity product, because it allows him to cut it down even more. If you’re already buying stepped on trash, and you’re stepping on it even more, you’re going to start losing customers as soon they find somebody else with something that’s even marginally better.

It's been like that for millions of years and it will continue forever. However, I really took Stringer's advice to heart, "That shit is forever." What did I do? I started selling literally shit sandwiches. The people complained that it was the most horrific thing they've ever tasted... some died... some said fuck it... but my prices couldn't be beaten. Recently, I had a customer tell me, why don't I just eat my own shit? Well, that's when I said to myself... what would Stringer do? I shot the customer and it's been all good. Remember... I agree that it's not like plot breaking or anything and I would respect Stringer for reforming. That said, still found the shift odd without any real insight to how this happened for him. Guess we could assume it was during the downturn when Fat Joe was pulling all the fiends from West to East and Barksdale org suffered. Like jerryb said - shit was weak all over so dif circumstance at this time. The characters of The Wire are so well thought out, so tightly developed, that even something as minor as thing has stuck with me. Testament to David Simon's brilliance.

Like how tight Stringer and Avon run things. D'Angelo is Avons nephew and works for them and even when he asks where the money goes, Stringer wont tell him. If you don't need to know...then you don't

stringer studied basic economics but didn't understand the drug market has very low barriers to entry - your product is important but also your reach and marketing will give you greater market share. you can apply basic economics to illegal sales however you must account for zero regulation (in this case, murder and territory)

I like how String is just completely fucking cutthroat, the stark contrast between him and D is just so apparent. A fiend is gonna come back regardless!!!, he or she is gonna come back to the same spot they been buyin' from, from dealers they know they know and can trust!, and your customers know WHERE you been gettin' your work from the whole time!! Haha true, then again I had been assuming it was $24,000 they had taken in (which would be around 2,400 deals- a lot in a day), it was probably $2,400 as others have pointed out. So, when you take out the cost of the drug, probably $1,000 or so to the Barksdales, and then the wages of the crew it makes a bit more sense that he would only give D a couple of hundred.
