The writers of this show are amazing. The parallels to the lord of the rings story is so telling. Everyone that sees the ring, wants the ring but that sets a new serieus of negative events for the new ‘owner’ of the ring. 1. Old face Andre shot 2. Marlo robbed 3. Omar shot because he robbed the card game and Marlo put out a hit 4. The cop that got his fingers broken 5. Michael whose whole life got destroyed and then ultimately he becomes the new Omar. Great writing.

2:05 When Marlo talked about taking the poker players, you could see his hubris rising. The look in his eye. He wanted to defeat them fairly in poker. When he told Chris "Maybe I get bored, send you to take them", we see Chris' unimpressed reaction at Marlo wanting to kill them for no good reason but vanity. He caught a glimpse of Marlo's hubris, and he didn't like it. He eventually starts resenting Marlo later on. When he closes the trunk saying "Better not".

When Andre tries to flatter Marlo by saying he sees the bigger picture, Marlo immediately zooms in on his ring. This either shows that Marlo is focused on the smaller view, or he's wise and sees through Andre's attempt at manipulation, and is punishing him for it. What do you think?

Andre says the ring has sentimental value. When Marlo asks "What's the real value?" the question takes Andre by surprise for a moment. Reminds me of when Andre told Joe the store is worth much more than what was being offered. It had sentimental value to him too. "That all depends, don't it." Andre was willing to part with his ring under pressure, but not the store.

What I didn't see when I first watched this is Omar could've shot Marlo with pretty much no consequences and saved himself a lot of trouble. Since Marlo ruled by fear unlike Avon he didn't really have many people that would rock behind him after death, except for Chris, Snoop and maybe half of his paid muscle, but they would have to quit after the money stops flowing (the organization couldn't support itself without him specially with Omar raiding them)
