Whenever I think of effective movie trailer critic quotes I think of Hard Candy, which used them masterfully to ratchet up the tension. Here, the quote cards almost illicit more chills than the footage itself, infusing the atmosphere with nightmarish promise. In turn, innocuous scenes play creepy, like the child repeating “baa baa” to that goat. From 1:49 the music and images pile on the dread, peaking with the combo of the two kids skipping, to the jumping goat (!), and into the quote card “Terrifying.” Yeah, I’d say so.
