I downloaded the witcher 3 to play on my 5600g, I'm able to play with almost everything on high, even at 30fps the gameplay is very satisfying

@@greecevstheworld its funny to think that back in 2015 you needed a high end pc to get a good experience because the game was very demanding for that time. Nowadays you can play it on a nintendo switch or the graphics just built into your cpu lol. This game still tortures my gtx 1070 if i crank the resolution much past 1080p at ultra.

Back in the days i upgraded my rig to r7 250x 1gb and q6700 and this game was the first one that I launched, at the time stutters with low fps (like 25) was absolutely fine for me, good times

I remember that i played The Witcher 3 with an AMD R9 280X and the allmighty AMD FX-8350 in a very smooth way, 1080p and a mix of ultra and high, almost 60 fps locked all the times.

Don't forget that at the time of TW3's release, we were still using DX11. Once we moved to DX12, the frame rates of TW3 on my PC jumped up by 10-14 fps. FX-8350, 8GB DDR3-1600, MSI 4GB GTX 770. I have that very same ASUS motherboard. Still works up to now.

TW3's API is still based on DX11 (D3D11), nothing's been changed on the game side, i don't think that the newer NVIDIA drivers could've helped but the only difference that u mentioned as a FPS boost thing might be happening because of the newer game version which is called v1.32 for now.

I have a Asus OC GTX 750 ti 2GB, Instead of playing at 1080p Low, I play at 1360x768p at Mixed settings (High - Low) and get around 45+FPS with a little overclock 1335Mhz on core, and 2900MHz to memory, and it gives me around 5FPS more, plus some Nvidia filters for certain looks. BTW Love your channel and I will be open to any GiveAways in Future XD. Thanks

Those stutters can even be happening with Ryzen 3300X and a RX6600XT combo but not that much and noticable of course, brother of mine using this setup and i've noticed them in Novigrad where you've tested even if their's counts a few but as far as i'm concerned stutter counts in other places are not as higher as in this place, might be a problematic coded area or a CPU related that i couldn't still figure it out yet. I've also tested this game in that particular area with an older i5-7500 from 2017 and a GTX 1060 6GB + 16GB dual channel RAM, a few stutters were exist but after a while they dissappeared even i circled the same areas again and again in the city, i dunno just wanted to share my personal experience cuz i've not experienced any major stutters issue with that old rig even i tested the Battlefield 1 Online or Assassin's Creed Odyssey etc before without any issue.. Anyway, thanks for the benchmark as always, keep it up 👍🏻

The R9 290 almost reached a 100 degrees. :D But great performance, better than my PC's performance was back then. I played through the game first in 2015, with a Core i7 2600k, 8GB 1600mhz memory and a GTX 960 2GB (I got the game with that) and I used the "high" preset in 1080p it was very playable not constant 60 fps, but around 50.

i was played the witcher 3 with a gtx 750 1gb on medium settings with 24fps most all of the time, firstly it was painfull, but then i get used to it, and finished the game... now i realize that it was much more painfull than i thought back to those days.

The main reason why so many r9 200 and 300 series died prematurely was the bad cooling system of those days. Many models were sold with the blower and in fact, as you can see from the video, it reaches 93/95 degrees while playing and we must consider that the gpu was not mounted inside a case, otherwise it would easily reach 98/100 degrees. The high temperatures have worn out the components of the video card and the gpu itself ahead of time. It is no coincidence that most of the survivors are custom coolers.

13:37 i have a similar problem, if this mother board from acer/hp you can fix it disable protection on other gpu in bios I've already forgotten how to do this, but somewhere in the bios there is a parameter that makes the motherboard work only with some GPUs

Went through this game with a 6700k, R9 390 (XFX triple fan version) & had a great experience playing it 1080p ultra with a few setting tweaked like high foliage distance & high shadows. Since those settings had a huge performance hit for basically no visual gain. Obviously no hairworks or any of the other goofy NV exclusive stuff enabled either LOL, but I was able to keep a locked 60 with Vsync on that setup. Then I nabbed a 8GB 290X & crossfired it with my 390 to get a 1440p ultra playthrough way back then!

12:27 There is a big problem in the game with the Ultra Foliage distance, it drops like 30 fps and the difference is pretty unnoticeable. Also the Ultra shadows cost quite a bit and they are not worth the effort.

If you ever get your hands on an R9 Fury or Fury X I’d love to see you test either one now that the drivers have been updated to support them once again. See how they stack up with their Maxwell equivalents (980 and 980 Ti) and even the 1060 6 GB and 1070 (VRAM limits aside) in 2022.

I was playing it on a GTX 660 back in the day, with decent optimizing it ran at 1050p/1080p with ultra settings and even some hairworks, at a pretty stable 30 fps. Which was a lot better for this kind of game than playing with disgusting graphics just to get 60. The 660 already had no business running it like that; being a mid-ranged card from years before. It was a surprising little beast.

Keep in mind that when this game came out V1.0 it wasn't very optimized and the graphics drivers weren't this advanced either which means you wouldn't see 40fps on medium with a GTX 660 back when it came out.

That %1Low value suddenly drops when the microstutter(s) exists but after that even if the game runs smoothly without any microstutter presence, Kryzpp is not starting to count the %1 Low again which is not quite right in terms of reflecting the true smoothness of the gameplay and you are thinking that it's running like hell and trash but that's not the exact fact, gotta admit that for ya.

the only difference with r9 290 with 770 is the gpu temprature which r9 290 was almost reached to 98c while 770 only struggled to reach 75c i don't think if r9 290 is worth buying because of temprature and it could cause problems in future also kills gpu after long period of time. but i agree for some reasons that there's huge fps difference between r9 290 with 770 but my opinion not worth buying because of huge tempratures

this is still my favorite game of the last 10 years. I have 180 hours in this per Steam. Started it on a 960M laptop, then moved up to the 5700XT, and now 3080 which is completely overkill for it. I still have so much left to do in the game but won't play until CDPR drops the next gen update.

i played 75 hours on my first playthrough back at christmas when the game was on sale for like 8 bucks with all dlc. my map is still full of icons lol. I unfortunately don't have an rtx capable card but i hope the update increases other graphical things like the textures.

No, it runs like that on the stock cooler on purpose. They aimed for a 96C max temp and the stock fan curve prefers silence over cooler temps, it's completely normal for a 290 to run at 90+C

I believe I played through the game with a Phenom II X4 965, 8 GB ram and R9 380 2GB back around the time it released and it was totally fine the CPU did struggle sometimes but it was definitely playable even at High/Ultra settings where the bottleneck was less noticeable

Low spec RAM requirements of 6 GB were made for Win 7 in 2015, not for bloated Win 10 (or God forbid 11 :P ) in 2022. As for recommended requirements, they are close to PS4 equivalent. Remember, Witcher 3 was game from PS4 golden era, and PS4 would run this game on 1080p high at 30+ FPS.

15:50 Its not a CPU bottleneck, if i good remember, AMD drivers have some issues with GPU usage(in GTA V these drops from 100% to even 0%) or maybe some Red Engine issues, u also have little GPU usage drop in GPU intensive area with 30% CPU usage(on 18:32)

From my experience, the Kepler GPU's don't perform as well on TW3 as Maxwell GPU's or above. The same happens for AMD GPU's, at least the older models (RX 500 or below), when compared to their NVIDIA rivals.

Back in the day the 770 and the 290 had about the same level of performance, but AMD kept updating their drivers for longer hence the performance difference nowadays.

It's a shame you couldn't use the 3rd gen i7 to compare exactly the cards. That said, the difference between 3rd and 4th Gen Intel is mostly incremental so the difference with the CPU likely wasn't a lot different. I noticed the CPU usage seemd lower on the R9 290 compared to the NVidia GTX770.

If you see the CPU running at 100%, you better of increasing graphics on the game to reduce stutter... GPUs don't stutter if you ask me, is the RAM/CPU transfer been slow to process what cause it. No Stutter > Higher Frames always worked better for me on any game.

I played this with 1060 and i5 2500k (with lazy OC to 4.2GHz) and 8GB DDR3 RAM on medium and it was rock solid 60 fps almost everywhere. CPU is not all that important.
