The Polish version of the Witcher was characterized by great acting, a very good script and an engaging storyline. Unfortunately, the budget of the series was not high, so the set design and special effects left a lot to be desired. Polish artists did not lack talent, only money. "a very good script and an engaging storyline." Let's not exaggerate. In 2002 script was questionable, storyline was closer to original but with some changes. CGI was poor AF but it was a result of Lord of the Rings effects, which those days were remarkable. For the people who watched TV series from 2002, it's an awkward feeling. Average TV series in comparison to netflix series looks like masterpiece. One thing, which is worth to mention. Geralt played by Michał Żebrowski, was almost 1:1 Geralt from the books/games: intelligent - philosopher - grumpy - swordmaster. Andrzej Sapkowski sent a letter to Michał, that he did amazing job with perfectly portrayed Geralt.

I've actually always liked that they cast Zamachowski, because he even fits The Witcher's frequent subversion of "hero narrative" clichés. Geralt's not living a pleasant life, despite how some might consider his profession or abilities "cool", and similarly, Jaskier doesn't need to be a typically handsome man to be a capable troubadour. It's in line with Sapkowski's style of humour.

I'd say more, Żebrowski managed to pull off that philosophical side of Geralt from books, ridden with doubts, at times eloquent but also melancholic. I also like much more how in polish series was portrayed the friendship between Geralt and bard Jaskier/Dandelion, in my opinion even better than in netflix show (not to mention that suprisingly in many places the Hexer in telling the stories from the books was more faithful to them than netfix show, of course Hexer also had it's share of changes and alterations some of which were bad, but actual short stories of the first two tomes were portrayed quite more faithfully than most of them from netflix version).

If Hexer had the same money as The Witcher, it would have been a better production. Well, when you're shooting fantasy, you have to put more than production zeal into it. But honestly, Geralt was great. Jaskier, too. And the scene where Geralt meets Ciri again in the Polish version was really beautiful and touching. Although to the curious I recommend the series, not the movie.

Well... 2000s were harsh time for Poland. You know changing system from central planned to free market in 90s' wasn't easy. It caused lots of poverty followed by waves of crimes. I guess we could not afford a better production not only because of that but also because fantasy (not SF but fantasy!) wasn't a very popular genre back then.

@@karolinakuc4783 Our film industry still sucks, even more than in 2000's, 90's or communist times. Back then we could make great comedies like "Miś", "Kogel Mogel", "Chłopaki nie płaczą", "Va Banque", etc. These movies had great writing and killer lines. We also had grand historical movies, adaptations of Sienkiewicz books. Trilogy and Krzyżacy are such great masterpieces. Name one good movie from the last decade. I guess "Boże Ciało" was pretty good. But our comedies now are trash like those movies with Karolak (no hard feeling to the actor). Historical movies also suck. Battle of Warsaw or Battle of Vienna were so poorly made. At least we have great gaming industry I guess, when it comes to popculture.

I am sorry but the polish version of Witcher was too clunky and the budget was obviously very limited BUT it had Michal Zebrowski! I was watching the show because of HIM!... I never read the novels but the way Zebrowski portrayed Witcher was very unique and you could feel the internal conflict between his purpose and emotions, between his mutant side and human side, between love towards certain humans and disdain of their society as a whole. Also, Zebrowski is polish, that means he is Slav (like me) and has slavic soul within him. Soul that is difficult to describe. Slavs do not talk a lot, keep their emotions to themselves but are loyal to people they can trust. And I think the way Michal played Witcher was simply much closer to my slavic heart. Henry Cavill's Witcher reminds me of Clint Eastwood movies a lot. :D You probably know what I mean. Sure, he does not talk a lot. But the reasons are slightly different. :D It seems like he does not talk much because he suffers from PTSD. :D Whereas Zebrowski's Witcher did not talk much because he was learning about the world around him and about people and he let them talk to absorb information. :)

Well, Netflix casting was actually better then their screenwriting, but even so the Polish version seems more natural in the main characters. Zebrowski IS Gerald - Cavill didn't even come close. Partly because of the shitty directing, but also he is simply not enough tough, charismatic and eloquent to play Geralt. He seems very forced where Zebrowski is natural. Yenn is more mature in Polish version - which should be the case for a 100 years old woman I guess.. I like both Dandelions, but Netflix is better, gotta admit (not judging by the terrible Tosscoin song). The Polish one seems like Dandelion after many years of whoring and drinking - which also could be right, actually:). Ciri in Polish version is accurate, Netflix got her too old of course. And screwed her whole story line as a bonus.. Elves are evenly ridiculous in both pieces (still like Polish Toruviel much better!). Renfri in Netflix is very good - Stregobor not so much. And Istredd in Polish version might not be the girl's favourite, but certainly has more charisma.
