It's astounding that this talk by Mann has had so few views, and so few likes. He's a genius, his books are mind-blowing, and his perspective is very much aligned with the Long Now...

It is one and a half hours long. I watched a video on Borlaug and in the comments there were people recommending a look at William Voght. So I looked for a video on Voght and this seems to be the only one that actually gives information, but it's one and a half hours long! I watched half an hour of it and I still haven't even heard Voght mentioned (and aside from that, eveything I *have* heard, I'd already learned from the video on Borlaug). I'm sorry man but I'm going to Wikipedia, I didn't sign up for that kind of time commitment. I assume other people who do a search where this video shows up as a result will also prefer something that's max 15-20 minutes long, and maybe has a title that says more about what it's actually about, because "The Wizard and the Prophet" sounds like a young-adult fiction novel 🤷

meh, he correctly observes the loss of freshwater and biodiversity but goes all in on CO2 which is still only on the order of 0.05% by volume... 22:40 real life chemtrails nobody wants to talk about, actual real pollutants... Stunning synapse. There is a continental divide between what scientists know and what the public and their politicians espouse

70 percent of all American agriculture is corporate agribusiness. Two of the largest are foreign, one from China and the other Brazil. They are in the forefront of mono-cropping which along with the outsized use of oil based fertilizer is a leading edge of pollution and climate change. They also are in the lead of inhumaine animal husbandry. Billions of subsidy dollars goes into the coffers of these massive agribusinesses. Many small farmers continue to struggle. Many, like chicken farmers, are at the mercy of these big corporate agribusinesses.

Good video...EXCEPT for the interminable opening sequence. There was absolutely not reason for that to go on for 4 and a half minutes. 13 seconds tops would have been plenty.

I have a leaking pipe at home. - The wizard plumber says: no problem I have a technological fix that costs little and the chance of success is 99%. - The prophet plumber says: I'll just cut the water and the chance of success is 100%. My preference ordering is 1. wizard plumber 2. Do nothing 3. prophet plumber. All environmental crises of the past have been solved by wizards not because prophets are wrong, because their solutions are worse than the problem.
