This movie was originated from MGM studios. But now it is a Warner Bros. film for some reason. I've always enjoyed this classic.

@@cjplay2 Yep, Turner Entertainment Company (through WB distribution) owns the rights of every MGM film prior to 1986 (at least I'm pretty sure it's '86)

Home Entertainment distributed some MGM Home Entertainment products since last year, July 1, 2020 (including the James Bond franchise, Rocky franchise, The Pink Panther franchise, etc.) especially the post-April 1986 / pre-UAR MGM library and several new releases from American International Pictures, Orion Pictures and United Artists Releasing recent releases since WB also owns with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment through their joint venture, Studio Distribution Services, LLC., in which Universal Pictures also distributed some latest MGM products for some reason, as a replacement of Disney's 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment (former MGM Home Entertainment licence and distributor until June 30, 2020).

I'm from Russia - this film is not so popular here (because there were a lot of fairytales adaptations in the Soviet era). So, I have never seen the Wizard of Oz, and I'm going to watch it on New Year's Eve!

You had an attempt at it from an author named Aleksandr Volkov, who was supposed to translate the first few books, and ended up rewriting them. You have some domestic screen Oz, though, including a 1994 movie.

Yeah, those moments are often referred to by many as "The Dark Side of the Rainbow" (I believe that title originated from a biography written about Judy's life) Nonetheless, this film is considered a beloved classic if one can look past those dark moments behind the scenes, and remember Judy for the beautiful talented star she truly was!

The reason being now everything is computer animated. In this movie most everything was hand made and painted so you can see and feel the hard work, dedication and heart put into the film. 🎥 ♥

@@angellica7318 It's not that. As Pixar has proven, a CGI movie can be very engaging and emotionally satisfying. But most movies don't go for that anymore, certainly not the live-action ones. Everything is snarkiness and cynicism these days.

That might actually be the source of my depression, because it dulled my interaction abilities. I haven't read up on Karen, so I don't know what sort of life she's had. But I'm sure she would at least be sympathetic. And you know that I am. 🙂

I am named after a Munchkin!! He's credited, with a speaking line who comes out with the mayor of Munchkin Land. Would have been nice to know when I was 5, but my dad didn't mention it until I was 30! Would love to see it in a theater!

If they do, it needs to be an adaptation of the book and not the movie. People seem to forget it's based on book that had a whole lot more to it than they were able to show us in 1939.

i truly do wonder why they haven't tried the oz books. it's probably bc of how popular the 1939 film is. but even then i dont see why not. the books are in the public domain so theres no copyright issues. i just dont get it but hopefully one day. the only (live action) film we have thats closest to the series is return to oz. we need more of that

This is the movie color was invented for, if it wasn't for this movie being made then artists like Leonardo Decaprio wouldn't have been able to make beautiful artworks like Stary Knight and the Moana Lisa. This movie had an amazing impact on history

I think you need to check your facts: (1) Leondardo Da Vinci is the painter; Di Caprio is the actor. (2) It's Mona Lisa, not Moana Lisa, and (3) Starry Night is by Van Gogh, not Da Vinci. What has this movie got to do with painters having completed their works between 50 and 500 years before this movie came out? (Mona Lisa painted in the 1500's, Starry Night Painted in the 1800's.)

They actually keep the MGM logo since Warner Bros. Pictures via Turner Entertainment division currently own this film, part of the pre-May 1986 MGM library. Unlike Amazon MGM Studios' post-1986 films, they plaster the MGM logo.
