I hope you Derick will rejoin the Wolfe Tones for the 60th anniversary next year (2024) as the 3 lads will be going on a nation wide tour, I for one would dearly love to see.

"Those in power write the history, while those who suffer write the songs, and, given our history, we have an awful lot of songs."... Remember going to see the Wolfe Tones with a loyalist girlfriend in the 60's before the troubles started.... They used to play a gig in Liberty Hall, Dublin of a Friday Night..Even then they were very popular.

The Wolfe Tones are not to blame for Irelands history. They didn't write it. England brought the war here and divided our people, hence the 30 year conflict in the north. The Wolfe Tones are refective of that fact. Always liked them, the Dubiners and the Fureys.

You can see it from both sides. 38 years together in a band is a lifetime.
"In some sense you were seen as part of the Republican side" 😳😳 ..... No shit Sherlock !! P.s some of the best gigs of my life seeing the Wolfe tones in Glasgow 🇮🇪✊🏻🇮🇪

The wolfetones were a 4 piece group. Derek sold them down the river n felt he could better himself. He was wrong. Brian Warfield Noel Nagle and the brilliant Tommy Byrne are the Wolfetones..

Worst thing he ever did was leave The Wolfe Tones, he has musical talent and is an interesting man but he just lacks that extra bit of spice like he had with The Wolfe Tones.

He says, “no other race of people” have recorded their emotions and feelings in songs. In fact every culture that has existed have recorded their emotions and feelings in songs. He is a historian?

i agree when i heard he left i was so pissed. i grew up on this band thanks to my grandfather and got every tape that ever came out. the wolfe tones today im trying to get into them but they suck now. especially noel doing dereks parts and singing his songs. sounds horrible :(

Absolute bullshit interview,where he doesn't say how he sold his fellow band members down the river with the contract he signed before the break up,allowing him to record new material but the band could not. Also speaks about wanting to go a different path to what they were doing but left the band and continued singing a lot of the same songs under the name of Derek Warfield and the young wolfetones. As big as he thought he was the Wolfetones managed and still continue to entertain without him. And if the truth be told his younger brother Brian was a far superior song writer than him.

And a far superior human being

Derek is a better song writer in my opinion. Song like Newgrange and Admiral William Browne are better than most of Brian's songs. Brian did write the majority of the songs though and the most popular songs

The Wolfe Tones were making money before the troubles in the North started I saw the WTs in 1964 If you were playing in an Irish Rebel band would you play in the North during the Troubles?. Because of collusion between the( corrupt) RUC & UVF
@thejiggitygiggity9010 ай бұрын
Well they had to think about their safety, look at miami showband they were from the south and were murdered by loyalist terrorists for being from the south, a band singing patriotic irish republican songs, songs of ireland songs of heroes, they probably would of been a target
