Sadly, I think Anna may be institutionalized with all of this in her imagination. I think the "Mack truck driven by a 9-year-old" reference may be drawing on Anna and her daughter getting into a car accident involving a truck. In such case, I suspect it was a rainy day, and Anna was driving; possibly under the influence. It could also represent the trauma and loss of her 9-year-old daughter hitting her like a Mack truck. The last meal they ate together was likely a chicken casserole. I could write for days about all of my ideas on this. So much of this was over the top, which I suspect it was supposed to be, as it is all likely being created in Anna's mind ( I also have theories on what each of the interactions throughout Season 1 represent for Anna). Frankly, this could all mean something that we will never figure out until the end, because I don't think Kristen Bell, May Holland, Cameron Britton, Michael Ealy, Glenn Close, and company would sign on for something that wasn't going to have a twist. Every single thing we saw in Season 1 will eventually be tied together. I think when this series comes to a close, it will be anchored in very strong acting. Of course, I could be wrong.

Agree 100% with your review. I actually forgot it was supposed to be satire while watching it. Otherwise I did enjoy the series and actually do hope for another season

This kind of comedy really works for me. I laughed out loud multiple times per episode and laugh when thinking back about some of the absolutely ridiculous things that happened and were discussed. It was also humorous in how dramatic it was at times. I watched all of it in 1 sitting and will be going back to watch again. I think the mystery aspect was well done too. If I wasn't spoiled, I wouldn't have guessed the killer is who it ended up being. I was guessing a certain person that was named a ton but never seen as some kind of celeb cameo but the reveal, motives and confrontation were all really great IMO.

This show would be quite boring without the absurdist parody core. I can understand why it might not work for some people. The show treats the audience as though they are one of the protagonists in a serious mystery schlock movie. Its lures us in by playing its subject straight for most of the show but the absurdity is present from the start.
@CantTouchDizzАй бұрын
Exactly. Like having the handyman fixing their mailbox throughout the entire period of the show which seemed like it went on for at least a week or two. If you try to get work done while watching this in the background you will miss everything. But if you watch closely, there are little puns and jokes littered all over this show. This movie is 100% a parody of Girl in the Window. Like Not another teen movie was a parody of movies like Scream.

I found the subtle humor the most hilarious. I am positive I know which part was offensive to you and I respect that. But it's something that literally doesn't happen, ever in real life. And the connection to her fear of rain, was wildly displaced that it was impossible not to at least chuckle. I also don't feel the series is confused with its identity. It never takes itself seriously even though the audience does. This is where that subtly comes in, people will miss a lot of the jokes. The writers seem to give the audience a lot of credit, maybe that is their flaw. They assume the audience is more cultured and observant then what they truly are.

Thanks for your review again Chris...always a treat to watch you. Look this series was both interesting and annoying at the same time!! Like you said, the mystery part was so engaging that I kept on guessing everyone as a suspect🤣🤣🤣. But some parts were just so cringey..for instance, I couldn't understand the police officers..they felt like jokes to me...it made no sense!! Then I kind of thought she was hallucinating the mail man cos he was always in the same position and the first time she was stranded in the rain, he was right there but didn't help!! Also the message on the tomb of her daughter kept changing everytime she visited..I thought it meant something but it was never addressed!! And lastly...with what she experienced, the near death experience...I screamed at her when she took her pills with vodka on the plane!!! Like common..haven't you learnt and you have your family back so why???? SPOILER 📢 ⚠️ 🚨 And how can I forget this....why should she be angry with herself for her daughter's death!!! The husband was the irresponsible one...mehn...I screamed when he was walking out and leaving that girl in the room!!! Like common!!!!!!!
@sherryrose37772 жыл бұрын
The husband shouldn’t have taken his daughter to work in a place like that. If that was my job I’d definitely NOT observe “bring your daughter to work day.” I know it’s a fantasy show but that’s just too unrealistic even for the outrageousness of this show! He forgot she was in there???? C’mon!! She wouldn’t have been there to begin with! No one would take a small child to a place like that.

This show was weird, I kept thinking there was something bigger at play the whole time, something just felt off. Especially the handyman Buell just fixing the mailbox forever, what was that about?? And I was constantly distracted waiting for the casserole dish to break again every time it showed up. Then at the end at the end of the season in the hospital that whole scene was just bizarre! I think the thing that makes this work for me is that the producers of the show are clearly in on the joke but in a way that they are fans of the genre rather than a straight out spoof. At first when I was watching I kept thinking this would have worked good for Kristen Wiig, but the more I watched I realized she would have been too hammy for the part. Kristen Bell nailed it out of the park. No surprise she’s awesome in the Good Place and Veronica Mars.

For me that just set the tone. I like the dark humor a lot, it was just so absurd a lot of the time, but still played well into the general ambiance of the show. I wish more shows had this "identity crisis", usually I watch only one episode of a show realizing I know exactly what they want this to be and get a general idea of how it's all going to play out. Honestly I had no idea it was meant to be satire, only at the (disappointing) end when I was quite upset about how ridiculous it was and looked up why, I was told it's meant to be satire. I have a pretty good sense of humour so if I had to be told it was comedy It obviously didn't work very well and I know I'm not the only one. At some points I actually found it quite emotional and I was in tears! Like how she would collapse in the rain, to some it might be funny but I believed something terrible must have happened to her for that to happen. And when she just wanted to be appreciated by sensitive tough guy, also really sad I thought she must have been extremely lonely. I didn't know what was real or what was not and I thought it must have been all confused in her head because of some traumatic experience. I hadn't seen The Woman in the Window yet when I watched it, and tbh the actual movie which I watched after, was funnier than the satire!

I grew up on satire and spoofs, and I'm used to those being obvious of that: Spaceballs, Airplane the Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, etc. The writers are clearly winking at you throughout those and the gags and exaggerations are right in your face. But this one....aside from the cause of her daughter's death, the forever broken mailbox and a couple of other moments, this satire was SUBTLE. Soooo subtle. You ask yourself "Are the writers being serious right now?" and the writers are responding "I don't know....ARE we?" I've never seen a spoof/satire like this that mostly denies you from seeing their full hand. I think I liked it. Although I'm still struggling to accept how it played out, despite it being a spoof/satire. I won't spoil it but let's just say, there's no way Anna's name could have been cleared.

Maybe 2 couches for me. I knew they were trying to spoof the movie with Amy Adams, but it fell flat for me. Everything about this series just felt dumb. She drinks wine like a fish...but has incredible muscle tone, flat abs, and her face is never swollen. She is always mixing medication and booze yet the most terrible she looks is when her hair is slightly messy. She wakes up in the morning and even has lip gloss shining away and her house is always clean--a very nice house, by the way. Husband is her therapist AND keeps her medicated. Riiiight. The terrible actress that plays the knife wielding psycho. The very stupid police. You were absolutely right that they couldn't quite get their tone right and the entire series seemed to just be going through an identity crisis. I watched it to the end but it didn't deliver at all for me--but I did watch it. I just don't know why.
