lolol this classic movie still cracks me up. What a fantastic cast. Rosalind Russell reminds me of Lucille Ball with her physical comedy, Joan Crawford as the gold digger and sharingthe scene with her nemesis Norma Shearer is priceless. The Women is pure gold.

Crawford's acting is timeless, very natural, subtle. The other actors in the movie look like they're acting in a theater - very vocal and over acted.

"Awfully good looking, tall, fair, distinguished. I'm _sure_ you wouldn't overlook _him_ ." "Sorry but, when one's mind is on one's _own_ business..." ... "Twenty-five cents! My, you are getting off economically, aren't you?" "Aren't I?!" "It'll be out tomorrow, Mrs. _Prowler_ ." According one book, this scene was substituted by Anita Loos and Jane Murfin for one in the originating play, and that movie censors wouldn't allow. A maternity ward scene where one character comments of the perpetually pregnant Edith, "She must be Catholic or careless," and Edith's cigarette ashes keep falling on her nursing infant. This scene is also evidence of how expertly women can bitch one another without going near a four-letter word, but that was a time when cleverness and a swordsman's skill with the English language were more prized than nowadays.

What’s interesting about this scene is that Joan comes off as more clever and tactful than Roz, in contrast to what’s just happened previously in which she’s shown how devious and evil she is, while talking to Steven on the phone. She lies to him by claiming it’s her birthday, to manipulate him into seeing her after work. She whimpers piteously to him on the phone, then shows her true self as soon as she hangs up by bitching he was going to stand her up in favor of his wife.

Rosallind Russell, a great comedian and actress. Did she speak the famous "mid atlantic" accent on this movie? I'm Spanish and it seems some British to me🤣
@strikeleather65034 ай бұрын
She was American through and through in real life but in this film she's posh New York (Fifth Avenue) hence the almost English accent. She refuses to ride a horse with a Western saddle. As opposed to an English one.

You should have spelt out "I don't know the era" whilst you emulate it from your words just to prove to us that you have absolutely no context of what this era is. You sound like a barely breathing grandmother of 1900 gasping over shorts on a woman.

Joan Crawford, in real life, did have many men. Mostly others' husbands! It's partly why Bette Davis hated her. And because Joan was better looking.
