What a great version I stumbled on, and fuzz on the drums.....what a surprise, sometimes a cover version is equally as good if not better or rather different.... ‘alone again or’ is a fine example covered by the The Damned and originally written and performed by the band ‘Love’. Now I've discover the Wonder Stuff, who I thought were one hit wonders years back, apologies guys clearly you are not ...I've download you of apple music and enjoying my new discovery.

I am obsessed with covers that are better than the original and I'm compiling a list in order to make a video. While this is a good effort, it was never going to be better than the Dexys version. But I am also doing a "Good effort but Impossible task" list. I might put this in the Good Effort list, along with Dexys version of 7 Days and Nouvelle Vagues versions of The American (Simple Minds) and Teenage Kicks (The Undertones) Oh yeah, I was going to point out that you can hear more or the words in this version. This actually weirds me out for some reason, not your version - which is fantastic - and I love the singer's priceless expressions too as he takes the piss out of Kevin. And so he should because his lyrics were just bizarre ways of trying to make himself the head of a movement that only existed in his own head. All that guff about searching for the new soul rebels, Kevin Rowlands lyrics; "Keep quoting Cabaret, Berlin, Burroughs, Duchamp, Bauvoir, Kerouac, Kierkegaard" he sings, and then out of the blue he plops in "Michael Rennie," I mean, how do you go from Hot Buttered Soul to quoting all those unreadable books, to MICHAEL RENNIE? He was in The Day The Earth Stood Still - a c-rap movie. He is, in this song telling Robin, a fictional friend, that quoting all these twats makes him a twat. This is ironic, as mentioning all those names in a soul song makes Kevin look like twat. Hey, I love this cover, and I love Dexy's, but who would disagree that Kevin dresses like a twat too!!
