Really interesting! Would be interested to see how we can shift away from using seabed sand which is extremely destructive and scarce, and instead use desert sand which is abundant yet too smooth to use for concrete cement. Maybe a similar leaching process of recycling waste done by Steven can be applied to recover clean coarser desert sand, while removing the few impurities for later uses. Waste acids from other industries could also be used in the concrete life cycle. Sulfuric Acid could be used to leach the minor amounts of carbonates found in desert sand, e.g., MgCO3 ; and Sodium Hydroxide could be used to react with silica to form sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), for applications in other industrial processes (including concrete). With the massive amount of research around concrete done by Dr.Hong Wong and your team, it would be super exciting to see some research applied on desert sand (even though it may be off the radar for its subpar composition and granularity)!
