The Woodpecker - Cottage January 2025

Renée and I spent the first 10 days of the year at the cottage. As usual, in winter, we didn't do much; but nonetheless this is what we did during our stay.

I'm kind of surprised that the rat stays calm and relaxed while zipped up in the dark and bouncing around for 2hrs. 🐕

I know this rat is quite calm for such a small breed, usually small rats like those are easily scared and nervous, but not this one.. He slept in the sling both ways!!!!

Outriggers might make the sled a little more stable..Love the cottage videos..

I think I would need a wider sled, if I can't find one that can fit inside the pickup, I will make one

Glad you had fun. Do you think you might need to make the snowmobile trailer sled a bit wider?

Thank you, yes I do, and also modify the swivelling interface, I was unable to do so over there. The sled should also be able to fit inside the pickup because with my snowmobile in the box I don't have space for anything else than the ramp.

Do you find that the grouse hunting is better since they clearcut around your cottage? A young, brushy woods is better habitat for grouse than a more mature woods.

Thinking about it, last hunting season was my second best ever. I saw over three dozens grouses last summer when I was taking walks with Renée's rat around the clear cut area, so I guess the grouses are coming back 😁

Do you have a plan for a new toboggan? I'll bet you could build one that's more stable. Or at least modify the one that you have so it won't tip so easily.

Yes I do, we will check if I can find a used one, but I don't have a lot of hope on this. A wider sled also means a longer one, and since I need the sled to be able to fit inside the pickup I think I will have to make one, but in wood it will be way heavier than in plastic....

@ Maybe you could try outriggers for your toboggan, like a Polynesian canoe. A single pole across the toboggan, and 'floats' at the same width as your front skis. If you make it with something like PVC pipe it would be light and inexpensive. A simple bolt-on system would allow you to quickly take it off for transportation.
