big hand for 1M subs! the workbench looks very sleek. I like the square dogs, and the assembly of the series of dog holes from spaced pieces rather than struggling to cut them out of the one long solid piece. and the eject mechanism is another wow.

John, your genius, skill and ingenuity never ceases to amaze me. I appreciate the more traditional guys like Rob Cosman and Paul Sellers as well, but no one inspires like you do. I can just the traditional hand tool crowd - "a BACKSAW to cut dovetails??? WTF!!" Haha... Never stop being you, brother! :)

Years ago, I made my workbench from sheets of plywood topped with masonite and surrounded by maple. Instead of the dog holes as John did, I drilled stepped 1" dowel holes. I then used stepped 1" dowels to fill the holes. Dogs which need a flat edge I just created some dowels with cuts to produce flat edges. With this method, I was also able to put dog holes in the center of the bench.

4:40 I made that mistake a week ago. Had a drawer side made up of several boards that had been sized and milled to spec and glued up together with biscuit joints. A lot of work. When I cut the tails one on side I was distracted or whatever. Only after sawing the vertical slots of the tails on the opposite did I realize I had done it a$$ backwards. Snapped the drawer side in two and tossed it in the garbage. ARRGEE!

@JohnHeisz3 жыл бұрын
I switched over to building bigger projects and they take time to do. And experience has shown me that most viewers want a complete video and not a series. That equals low view numbers and that hurts the performance of the channel. So it's not me moving away from KZbin, it's the lack of engagement from the viewers (subscribers in particular) that's pushing me this way. Believe me, I'm not making a fortune by doing this. I could go back to cranking out filler content and start cooking in ads for Audible and Harry's razors and the like and make a TON more. This is about building something of value that some people still want.
@mutasimaldory3 жыл бұрын
👍 I wasn't implying criticism, I was just wondering..many of the other creators I follow (covering a very wide variety of topics!) are commenting on their channels that youtube is becoming more and more draconian, demonitzing or striking down videos, supposedly hiding notifications or comments, even unsubscribing people without their knowledge...I was curious to see if you felt targeted too.
@JohnHeisz3 жыл бұрын
Well, that's happening in the rest of the world and more and more each day, so KZbin is just keeping pace. I don't say anything "controversial" on this channel, so it's relatively safe. But there might come a day where using a table saw the way I (and millions of other highly qualified people) use it will be considered "dangerous" content. So hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
@cherhanamiya13 жыл бұрын
@@JohnHeisz Speaking about your comments regarding "Dangerous content" Here in the UK I'm Pretty sure that NO UK MANUFACTURES make DADO Blades as our HSE (Health & Safety Executive ) frown on our use of them ! seems we're able to buy them off eBay but from overseas which ultimately costs a fortune in P&P. I've tried on numerous occasions to purchase a table saw arbor, to no avail, again i'm pretty sure the HSE has something to do with this, God Forbid we attempt to make our own Table Saw's.

Nice work John, but I would be concerned about the threaded rod eating away at the end piece of wood with the dovetails if you don't insert a metal sleeve.
@JohnHeisz3 жыл бұрын
I asked the threaded rod and he said he's hungry, but not that hungry :) But seriously, wear would be minimal. And if you want a sleeve, you can always put one in.

Meh, I would have used pocket holes... 😇 ... ... Hmm, how about a homemade wind generator hooked to a battery bank to help heat your shop? 🤔
@daifeichu3 жыл бұрын
A bank of batteries would be very expensive. I've never bought a bank before but I've seen the price of them lots of times at my work and they are not cheap. EDIT: There's also the price of a windmill and the components that go into an electrical storage system. And then there's upkeep and space to put all that stuff. Did you see what happened in Texas las month? Their windmills froze and couldn't work. John lives in an area that's a bit colder than Texas.
