The rigging for this thing reminds me of the gadget my doctor's office sent me the last time they wanted me to do a sleep study, rather than send me to a proper sleep lab. Mainly what we learned is that I can't get comfortable enough to sleep with an elastic strap around my chest, which was of dubious medical utility.
@bsadewitz

I'm fortunate I was able to skip that one and go right to the lab. I suppose my insurance was feeling generous that day(?) The accommodations were EXTREMELY comfortable. I remarked to the technician about it, and she said, "Well, they have to be, otherwise the results could be useless!" I laughed when you called it "rigging", like it's a shipping container or a sailboat or something.

Glad to hear an honest review from Mrs Techmoan. It does kind of feel like that, “Is that all it does?” Anything that requires Bluetooth pairing on each use is a fail on the manufacturer side. Feels like they did not do QA on audio connectivity and focused on the unit functioning. They probably had used wired headphones to make testing easier and just didn’t even consider the Bluetooth failures.

Back in the mid 80s Pioneer had a product called the Body-Sonic chair. It followed the look of a recliner. I only ever saw one example, which we had in the UK office to gauge reactions. The transducer in the bottom seat was connected directly to the springs in the frame; there was no actual diaphragm. It was designed for use with a portable cassette player, but obviously had other applications. It was fun, but not great in its sound quality. It did once appear on the BBC Micro TV Show, where it was seen in conjunction with a Laserdisc Videogame system. There are images online.

I have my Buttkicker installed on a stage that my three home cinema seats stand on. The stage has a bit of flex to it, the transducer set at the middle of the stage immediately behind the center seat. The settings are such that only the lowest of the low frequencies are used (0-30Hz), and at low power. This accentuates only what truly needs to be, and as a result complements the experience instead of being distracting. Just a nice wobble or rumble when you need it.

I was part of the kickstarter campagin for the strap & the vest back in 2019/2020 and it was really fun to play with during lockdown. Whenever I'd take my kids out on the double stroller in the neighborhood, I'd strap mine on, found my sony PSP earbuds (yes PSP) and it really kept me moving. I had to try all of the ways to wear it before settling in on the "over one shoulder and under one arm facing front." That seemed to work best for me and my power-walk / half jogging pace without moving around too much. 😀Just a fun little thing, wearable subwoofer that made the music feel louder without actually having to turn it up too much more. I really had a good time with mine ^_^

I have this one for over 6 months now, and actually I am quite happy with it! I did notice however that the type of music you (regularly) listen to in conjunction with this device is of great influence. For example, I find (hard) rock and 70's to 90's pop & EDM (I do not really listen to older stuff) to sound really bad. The bass is just a messy rumbling with little 'connection' to the music. However more recent, well produced pop, R&B and rock sound pretty good! The most impressed however I am with genres such as (dark) Techno, Progressive Trance, Deep trance and chill-out music. Mainly tracks with long running basslines. Try out one of those 'test your car hifi or 'test your headphones' playlists on, for example, Spotify.

The thing is, the Aura Interactor nailed it the first time around. I have two (a backpack and a cushion) and they work brilliantly. It's powerful enough to shake the entire body, not just a small part of it. By the way, I'm doing exactly what he's suggesting in the video and enabling compatibility with all sorts of devices through the use of an HDMI audio extractor. The only downside this device has is that some audio bleeds through. You could probably combat this with some kind of filter, but since I'm using headphones anyway, it's not much of an issue.
@Crazy_Borg
@Crazy_Borg 4 ай бұрын
@@no1DdC I agree. But I think there were additional fault: The horrible aesthetics (the backpack was just a huge lump of cheap plastic, you wouldn't want to get caught wearing that thing), and that there was no audio signal loop-through.
@no1DdC
@no1DdC 4 ай бұрын
@@Crazy_Borg It's for indoor wearing and the backpack in particular was heavily marketed to kids, whereas the less cheap-looking cushion was marketed to adults. At least it's thick and indestructible plastic, which makes it very suitable for VR these days. Zero comfort, admittedly, but it's so powerful that you don't need to strap it down very tightly. They had an adorably simple solution to the lack of an audio passthrough: There's a simple 3.5mm mono splitter included in the box. These days, in the age of audio extractors, USB sound cards and software that can output the same audio (with filters) through multiple soundcards (VoiceMeeter Banana is my favorite), it's not really an issue anymore. Fun fact: A very small number of these came with a replacement for the N64 Rumble Pak, the Jolt Pak. It's exceptionally rare (there are barely any photos of it online), but it does exactly what you would expect. There's a 3.5mm audio jack in the pak, which the Interactor plugs into. A brilliant idea.

Mercedes has this kind of vibrating seats in their 223 S-Class. They call it 4D sound. Never was a fan of this, having it on while driving.

My old Toyota has that built in. The rattles and vibrations are quite realistic but they stay on when the radio is off.

I was never a fan of vibrating seats in the cinema. Can’t imagine any home solutions are better than those…

I've been interested in this since I got the Razer headphones with rumble, and love them! They vibrate in stereo and really enhance action movies and gaming.

Just turn on vibrate on your phone and sit on it, then everytime there's an explasion get the Mrs to give you call. It will probably be just as effective as this seems to be.

The main application of this i could see would be for hearing impaired/deaf people who otherwise need very loud ambient music or an audio setup with a dedicated subwoofer. outside of the audio that comes standard in a car, it wouldn't really make sense for a deaf person to purchase Hi-Fi equipment with the crazy prices those go for.

My son in law got me to try his at Christmas,so after having had it working for a few minutes I asked him if it would affect my pacemaker ( I don't have one ) . But the look on his face was priceless.

Pioneer made the BC-1/BC-11 that were seat cushions and a small amp that were great. I have a set still!

On the cushion idea, that was actually done here in the states in some theaters, some did the cushions and others did the floor under the supports for the seats.

The Bluetooth OR output problem is a massive one if you have a deaf or hard of hearing person in the house who uses a separate audio streaming device. I have passed on the AppleTV for years because you cannot directly connect hearing devices to it other than the AirPods, which are useless to a deaf/HoH person. Currently using an Xbox One to stream TV content because it allows both HDMI audio and optical out at the same time without a delay on either output.
