“Desiring to reveal the mystery hidden from the ages, you were led as a sheep to the slaughter, O Jesus, and as a lamb before its shearer. But as God You rose from the dead and ascended with glory to heaven, and along with Yourself You raised us who cry: Alleluia!” -Akathist our Lord Jesus Christ kontakion tone 7

Just wanted to say, thank you for making this channel. I'm in my early twenties and am now in the process of converting. It's been a great challenge learning about Greek Orthodoxy, since most of the study materials are pretty dated and my GenZ brain has a hard time paying attention for that long or digesting the information on paper. It's not uncommon for me to read the same page over and over again to understand. Besides your channel, there hasn't really been any others that can speak to my generation in the ways yours can. Your videos feel very familiar to the other content I consume on youtube, it's exciting and new. I sincerely appreciate it, and I'm glad I found you. I'll most likely end up watching all your videos (paired with my other study materials) before I feel ready to convert.

Really appreciate your kind words! Thank you for watching. Of course beyond any study materials, the best way to learn about Orthodoxy is to visit the services. God bless you on your journey!

"Alleluia" wasn't omitted from the Western Mass in the 13th century. St. Bede, who you quote, never sang it during Lent. Because it originally was only used liturgically in the West during Eastertide, and was eventually added to the majority of the yearly calendar--but never to Lent. "Alleluia" has always been considered in the West as a heavenly, specially joyful way of expressing praise to God. The Western Tradition therefore makes its praise to God during Lent and more somber days (like funerals) through other expressions, often putting in more effort to praise God (for example, replacing the usual 'Ite, missa est' conclusion of the Eucharist Liturgy with 'Benedicamus Domine').

And when we don't use the word with respect, we're taking God's name in vain. Scary
