There are icons of Saint John Chrysostom with Saint Paul whispering in his ear. It is said that Saint Chrysostom would pray to God to illuminate the truth of His word. One day he started to hear the voice of Saint Paul explaining the intricacies of the bible. This is why Chrysostom's word holds so much weight in the Orthodox world.

That story can be found in the Prologue of Ohrid, compiled by ST. NICHOLAI VELIMIROVICH. It seems that there was a man in Constantinople whom the Emperor had gotten upset with, wrongly. One night, he went to talk to St. John to ask for his help. St. John was in his study, and the man who was there to greet visitors (i don't remember much about him, but he was a great friend), went to ST.JOHN'S door and gently opened it to tell him he had a visitor, only to see that there was someone in the room with St. John, who was bending over him and speaking into his ear, as St. John was seriously absorbed in what he was writing. The man had no idea how the visitor could have entered, since he was in charge of the door. He didn't interrupt St. John, and he told the one who had come for help, that he must wait until the other visitor had left. The man stayed there all night. The door never opened. He went back the next night. Same thing. And a third night.. Same thing. On the following morning, St. John mentioned to his friend that he had thought the one seeking his help would have come by, since several days earlier he had sent a message to St. John requesting to see him.. The doorman told him that the man had come and stayed there 3 nights, but that St. John had had a visitor. St. John said there had been no one with him.. Asked the doorman what the visitor had looked like, and the man pointed to an icon of St. Paul, who had been helping St. John understand what St. Paul, himself, had written. ☦💝☦

And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. - Acts 3:19 If you’re in North America, please go check out any of the churches available to you: PCA, OPC, Rpcna/Rpc, Urcna, or a canrc church (These are conservative and actual Presbyterian churches) If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe a Lcms Lutheran church. If you are Scottish, I recommend the Free Church of Scotland and the APC. (Different from the Church of Scotland) If you’re English I recommend the Free Church of England (Different from the Church of England) Also online you can look up church finders for each of the groups, it will show you locations.

Excellent. A favorite quote from St. John to his beloved disciple St. Olympia: "Therefore, do not be cast down, I beseech you. For there is only one thing, Olympia, to fear, only one real temptation, and that is sin. This is the refrain that I keep chanting to you ceaselessly. For everything else is ultimately a fable - whether you speak of plots, or enmities, or deceptions, or slanders, or abuses, or accusations, or confiscations, or banishments, or sharpened swords, or high seas, or war engulfing the entire world. Whichever of these you point to, they are transitory and perishable, and they only affect mortal bodies; they cannot in any way injure the watchful soul. This is why, wishing to express the paltriness of both the good and the bad things of this present life, the blessed Paul stated the matter in one phrase, saying, 'For the things that are seen are transient' (2 Cor. 4:18). So why are you fearing temporal things, which flow past like rivers streams? For this is the nature of present things, whether they be pleasant or painful.”

According to tradition one night when Saint John was writing a commentary on the epistles of Saint Paul alone in his cell, Saint Proclus, his attendant, saw a man whispering in his ear. Saint Proclus asked him later who that man was. Saint John answered that no one was with him. Then Saint Proclus glanced at an icon of Saint Paul and exclaimed, “The man whom I saw resembled in every way the saint depicted upon this icon!”. Saint John’s ear in which St. Paul spoke to him is still incorrupt to this day, and is visible on his Sacred Head, treasured by Vatopaidi Monastery on Mount Athos

Saint John has been a great guide for my life in the church of Christ, truly his his intercession is with us and his golden mouth illuminates the world with heavenly wisdom. May our father Saint John Chrysostom send us a portion of his divine knowledge and pray unceasingly to the Lord, our great God and Savior Jesus Christ for the salvation of our souls. ☦️

There is only one truth and it is that Christ is Lord! I am currently reading Saint John Chrysostom's story in the Golden Legend (I couldn't wait until the 27th because you released an episode on him and I wanted to get to know him beforehand). I would also like to say that everytime I eat tuna for dinner (which is most days of the week), I season it with dill, curry and... turmeric! Such a joy! Now, I will have a thought for John most every dinner! Glory to God for all things! Blessings!

Great video! I have another Orthodox question (I hope you know you don’t have to answer them haha)- Why do some of your men have long hair & long beards? Thanks as always!
@huntz0r
@huntz0r Жыл бұрын
It’s a monastic rule that sort of caught on as a pious tradition among non-monastics. Monks don’t cut their hair or beards, or do so very minimally; that practice goes all the way back to the Nazarite vows in the Old Testament.
@MrBJYates
@MrBJYates Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer! I figured it had something to do with the Old Testament Nazarite vow, when they would grow their hair during the duration of the vow. But they also had to abstain from wine during the Nazarite vow. I’m assuming that the Orthodox tradition of men growing out their hair doesn’t also mean that they abstain from wine, because that would mean they couldn’t take communion? But I suppose that just because they grow out their hair doesn’t mean that they have taken the Nazarite vow! Out of curiosity, how long has this been an Orthodox tradition? Thanks again!
@huntz0r
@huntz0r 11 ай бұрын
@@MrBJYates yes it’s not exactly the same thing, although if a monk is under a rule not to drink wine (even laypeople fast from wine on certain days) that would not apply to receiving the Eucharist. I believe the tradition goes back to the beginning since Christian monasticism really comes straight out of Jewish monasticism. In a sense St. John the Forerunner (Baptist) is the first Christian monk.

All this to say or request Patriatix to please consider lowering the volume of the accompanying music. It’s very distracting and interferes our hearing of the lovely lessons.
