The Word BECAME Flesh? Why John 1:14 does NOT say "God became man"

For many people who believe in the “deity of Christ”, a few words from John 1:1 combined with a few words from John 1:14 forms the #1 evidence that Jesus is God, and that therefor somehow God is a Trinity.
In this podcast we focus on the problems with the “deity of Christ” and Trinitarian interpretation of John 1:14, the claim that “God became man.”
There is no Trinity in John 1:1 or John 1:14 or anywhere else in John’s Gospel.
The incarnation, or “God became man” interpretation plucks a few words from the Gospel of John and creates its most important, essential, seminal doctrine, while ignoring nearly the entirety of the rest of the Gospel of John, and the Bible as a whole. Jesus’ own words in the Gospel of John, and the author’s own purpose statement are ignored.
Does the Greek word (egeneto) translated in most English Bibles in John 1:14 as “became” mean that one member of a multi-person godhead transformed into flesh? Did one member a godhead “become” man like the fairy tale prince became frog? Many “diety of Christ” believers seem to believe that one member of a godhead inhabited a human body like the human prince inhabited a frog body.
If God became man by taking on another nature, human nature (flesh), then why has the Trinitarian god been defined for hundreds of years as having only one nature?
Deity of Christ interpreters are like magicians who claim one moment that there God has one nature, but then the next moment insist that their god has two natures.
Why is the conception and birth of Jesus the Messiah not described at all in the Gospel of John, if the author wanted to communicate that God became man? We call the incarnation “the Greatest Story Never Told”.
We explain why “deity of Christ” belief in a “trans-nature” god is similar to, and in some ways even worse, than the modern trans-gender claims. Christians who believe in a trans-natured god and condemn transgenders and homosexuals are being hypocritical.
We note how history is against the “God became man” interpretation of John 1:14, and see how the interpretation was developed in Greco-Roman-Byzantine philosophical speculation in lands outside of Israel. The Gospel of John must be understood from a 1st century Hebraic background, not from a 2-5th century Gentile viewpoint.
The worst aspect of the “God became man” interpretation is that it denies that Jesus of Nazareth is a human person. In the end, it tends to eliminate even the abstract “human nature” from Jesus.
There is a better way to interpret John 1:14 which does not deny that Jesus is a human person. We plan to make a suggestion in a podcast to come.

Great explanation! God just revealed the following passages to me...40 the Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing [becoming full of] in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. 52 And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men ~ Luke 2:40 & 52. Does this sound like a human child dependent on God Almighty, or a God child dependent upon himself?

@TruthSeeker Islam does not provide a savior. No one in Islam knows if he/she is saved or not. Muslims have to wait until they die to see who Allah chooses. For Muslims to say that Jesus did not die on the cross is to throw away their own opportunity to receive eternal life through repentance and to receive forgiveness of their sins. Jesus took our place when he died for each of us who accepted him. We deserved that death ourselves because of our sins. God forgives each of us who believes God performed a biological miracle in the womb of Mary and to him or her who repents their sins at Jesus' feet. Luke 1:35 says, "for this precise reason (the biological miracle) the holy child shall be called the Son of God." He was not the second person of the Trinity because God is not 3, but He is One, as stated more than 1,300 times in the Old Testament! Jesus declared that God is one. He said in Mark 12:29 that the most important commandment is "Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD." The Jewish Law has 613 commandments, and Jesus said this one commandment is the most important of all. Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is one! He didn't say 3 LORDS, and he didn't take the perfect opportunity to say that he himself is also God. Jesus was not a Trinitarian! He says in John 8:40, "You seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God..." Jesus called himself a man! 1st Timothy 2:5 says, "There is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus!" To say otherwise is a lie! God cannot die. God cannot be born! This idea is the doctrine of the enemies of God and of the living and resurrected Christ that they have created because the devil is like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour! He created false doctrines through the Greek Church Fathers, who were philosophers and who corrupted the Apostol's doctrines within the early Catholic Church, before it was called Catholic, and which are still followed by Catholics and Protestants alike today. They are following pagan philosophers who were infidels. Of course, the devil wants to blind people through Greek philosophy in the Church. It is a war! Spiritual warfare and humanity is in the middle of the war. God is drawing people to him because no man comes to God except God draws him. But the devil is working day and night 24/7 to distract every human being he can and in any way he can to prevent people from believing in Jesus and repenting of their sins. Jesus is the "Last Adam," and he has become "A Life-giving spirit." 1 Corinthians 15:45.

JESUS was called Son-of-Man a grand total of 88 times in the New Testament AND was our Saviors "own" favorite self-designated title. Enoch was in circulation hundreds of years, "before" Jesus the son of man stepped on the Israel scene, and probably why in a lot of circles he was accepted AND received in Dead Sea Scroll's ⭐Enoch 46: 1-6 -1.And there I saw One who had a head of days, And His head was white like wool, And with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a man, And his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels. -2.And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that -3. Son-o-f Man, who he was, and whence he was, (and) why he went with the Head of Days? And he answered and said unto me: This is the son of Man who hath righteousness, With whom dwelleth righteousness, And who revealeth all the treasures of that which is hidden. -4. And this Son of Man whom thou hast seen shall raise up the kings and the mighty from their seats, and the strong from their thrones and shall loosen the reins of the strong, and break the teeth of the sinners. -5.And he shall put down the kings from their thrones and kingdoms because they do not extol and praise Him, nor humbly acknowledge whence the kingdom was bestowed upon them. -6.And he shall put down the countenance of the strong, and shall fill them with shame. [🎯Daniel 7:13-14. “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed."🥰] [Jesus/Son-of-Man is presented to God/Ancient Old, after leaving his Apostles on a cloud in Galilee.] ⭐-Enoch 48: 2-6 -2. And at that hour that Son-of-Man was named in the presence of the "Lord-of-Spirits", and his name before the Head of Days. [NJESUS/Son-of-Man & GOD] -3.Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of the heaven were made, his name was named before the Lord of Spirits. [JOHN 17:5] -4.He shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall, and he shall be the "light of the Gentiles, and the hope of those who are troubled of heart. [Isaiah 49💡I will also make You a light of the nations, So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”] -5.All who dwell on earth shall fall down and worship before him, and will praise and bless and celebrate with song the Lord of Spirits.👈🏻 -6 And for this reason hath he been chosen and hidden before Him, before the creation of the world and for evermore. [DANIEL 7:13 Acts 7JESUS/Son-of-Man AND LORD-Of-Spirits=GOD] ⭐Enoch 62: 1-3 -1.And thus the Lord commanded the kings and the mighty and the exalted, and those who dwell on the earth, and said: Open your eyes and lift up your horns if ye are able to recognize the Elect One. -2.And the Lord of Spirits seated him on the throne of His glory, and the spirit of righteousness was poured out upon him, and the word of his mouth slays all the sinners, and all the unrighteous are destroyed from before his face. -3.And there shall stand up in that day all the kings and the mighty, and the exalted and those who hold the earth, and they shall see and recognize How he sits on the throne of his glory, and righteousness is judged before him, and no lying word is spoken before him. -4.Then shall pain come upon them as on a woman in travail, [and she has pain in bringing forth] when her child enters the mouth of the womb, and she has pain in bringing forth. -5.And one portion of them shall look on the other, and they shall be terrified, and they shall be downcast of countenance, and pain shall seize them, when they see that Son of Man Sitting on the throne of his glory. [BIRTH PAINS REVELATION 12] -6.And the kings and the mighty and all who possess the earth shall bless and glorify and extol him who rules over all, who was hidden. [Isaiah 49:2.He has made My mouth like a sharp sword, In the 🫴"Shadow of His hand", He has concealed Me; And He has also made Me a sharpened arrow, He has hidden Me in His quiver.] -7.For from the beginning the Son of Man was hidden, and the Most High preserved him in the presence of His might, and revealed him to the elect. -8.And the congregation of the elect and holy shall be sown, and all the elect shall stand before him on that day. -9.And all the kings and the mighty and the exalted and those who rule the earth shall fall down before him on their faces, and worship and set their hope upon that Son of Man, and petition him and supplicate for mercy at his hands.

On p 117 of the Racovian Catechism on John 1:14 says "the Word was, strictly speaking, made flesh (and nothing obliges us to depart from the proper meaning of the terms)". So, does anyone translate EGENETO as you do in John 1:14?
@user-gk3ec7cg4t
@user-gk3ec7cg4t Ай бұрын
The translators even changed the word order to fit their doctrine. It does not say: "and the Word was G-d", it says "and G-d was the Word". Taking the elohim from Gen 1:1, we have "and G-d was the Word", or : The elohim was the Word, the Mighty One was the Word. For the Father could not become His own Word. But the Word could become flesh.

I have a question all through the Bible things that God spoke or that was made known that would take place or come to pass came to pass there are many prophecies about the Messiah in the Old Testament including including that he would be born of a young woman or virgin my question is why could not the logos that became flesh be these prophecies that came to pass or became reality It really seems that in the logos (thinking reasoning) of God about Christ was in God even before the foundation of the world existing in God not just his birth but it seems that his whole life existed before the foundation of the world in the logos of God and was played out during his time here on earth I know that probably makes no sense hope to hear an answer from you

First and foremost Bill has done a great job in explaining this. But to your question, from John 1:1 see how he said the word was with God and the word was God. Then in verse 2 it read "John 1:2 (NLT) He existed in the beginning with God." Now all the confusion started because now we can see a pronoun being used in place of the noun "word". Hold on to this, let's check out Proverbs 3:13 - 16 Proverbs 3:13-16 (NLT) Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. 14 For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. 15 Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. From verse 13, it is clear it is talking about wisdom. But from verse 14 we magically see wisdom somehow has become human and now being referred to as "her" and you can see from verse 16, it says She offers you long life in her right hand. Are you going to tell me we are talking about a human whose name is wisdom or wisdom became flesh? Compare this to what John did in his chapter. This is personification. It makes it easier to understand what someone is saying when they use such writing skills as personification. It makes it sound real to life and relatable. Secondly, God made everything by His word. We have the Rhema and the Logos. When God said let there be light, that was Rhema (The spoken word) God's word is with him until He speaks it out. So, if God has not yet said "Let there be light" these unspoken words are with him until spoken but it doesn't mean these unspoken words are by themselves another "God" The word of God came through angel Gabriel to the virgin Mary that she will have a son and she is to name the son Jesus. Until that word was spoken Mary was never pregnant. The moment the word was spoken, it went into action and made her pregnant. Because... God is powerful and when he speaks his words become alive and act/move/take action/deliver. Look at Isaiah 55:11 Isaiah 55:11 (NLT) It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. That's how powerful God is. When He speaks his words move and does his wishes. Let's make it relatable. If God says "Stand up" His words will immediately develop hands and legs, come and pick you up on your feet and vanish into thin air. At this moment you are now on your feet. Mission accomplished. I am not saying that's what happens but you get the idea? So it is not that the son of God was already existing before he was born. That will make the son of God eternal but there is only one eternal being and that being is God who is a Spirit. There is none like Him. Jesus Christ is also known as the second Adam (referring to Adam) why? Because Adam and Jesus are brothers! They have the same Father the difference is one brother did not obey the Father but the second one obeyed the Father all the way even to the point of death. So the Father was very happy with the second brother and He (God) decided to elevate the status of the second brother to now rule and judge all things and be King of all things except He Father. The following scriptures will point that out to you and you will see that even to today, Jesus is still the son of God who has been given authority by our Father (God) to rule and judge and have power over everything but not over his Father. This is why Jesus is special and also amazing because he was a man who now rules like God and best... he is our big brother and through him we can also come into the same inheritance and rule with him together in our Father's kingdom. 1 Corinthians 15:25-28 (NLT) For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet. 26 And the last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For the Scriptures say, “God has put all things under his authority.” (Of course, when it says “all things are under his authority,” that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.) 28 Then, when all things are under his authority, the Son will put himself under God’s authority, so that God, who gave his Son authority over all things, will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere. And one thing, the name "JESUS" is God own personal name that he revealed to us and gave it to his son. so when mention the name Jesus we are actually calling the Father. Hence the son did everything as directed by the Father and pointed everything back to the Father. - John 17:11 God himself was living inside of the son - 2 Cor 5:19 and this is what made it possible for the man Jesus to be able to perform all those miracles and even walk on water and raise the dead. God was inside of him performing all these miracles through him and reconciling the world back to himself (God). You see, if you keep Jesus where he is supposed to be - the son of God it makes it very special and we see the beautiful of how God was able to save us and how a mere man was able to defeat the devil which means we have the same chance of overcoming satan if we follow Jesus' steps. Hope this helps.

In my research, the “disciple” is unlikely to as historical relevant, since this heroic apostle, differs "several times"-standing under Jesus’ cross with several women (chapter 19, verses 25-27) running with Peter to Jesus’ tomb (chapter 20, verses 3-10). But when you look at all those same scenes in other gospels, there’s no trace of the character. In Luke, only women stand under Jesus’ cross (chapter 21, verse 49); and in Luke, Peter runs to the tomb alone (chapter 24, verse 12). It’s as if the character has been invented and inserted into those scenes to give the book the air of eyewitness credibility, who knows? As scholars, we’ve been so certain that the texts have different authors that we’ve overlooked something very basic about them: they all seem to construct a common implied author. They all state or imply that they were written by an “eyewitness”-the same eyewitness-and they show extensive signs of copying, as we would expect in area attempting to promote their own agenda. we’ve never found a trace of this Johannine community-no mentions in ancient texts, no archeological evidence. In my research, I suggest a reason for this. I assemble evidence that the texts in question are ancient pseudepigrapha. When it's evident that All 27NT Books including the anonymous memoir, "nicknamed The John of John", that ALL 9NT Authers unanimously claim, "Jesus is the Son-of-Man, Who Has has a G-D"? The paradoxes have been a holy mess for 2000 years, claiming Jesus is a second lesser God? something Justin martyr started proposing 180AD?

Hi. Sorry for such a late response. Perhaps by now you've heard some more about what I think about John 1. Although parallel, John 1 is not the Genesis 1 "beginning". John 1 is introducing a new beginning that God brings about through the man Jesus Christ, who is metaphorically called the Word. In Greek philosophy, "logos" can sometimes mean "thinking, reasoning". In the Bible it never does. In the Bible (some 1100 times in Greek OT and NT) logos is always expressed, never unexpressed: a word, teaching, doctrine, message, the gospel message, etc.

The cost of interpreting John 1 as God became man very well could be damnation. Did you ever ask yourself why in the tribulation will it be so easy for the masses to worship the anti messiah as God? Because basically the whole “Christian” world worships the true Messiah as though he is God. People who know and understand that there is numerically 1 God, that no man can see him and live, and that He is NOT a man, would NEVER worship any man as God!

Hi, the author of the Gospel of John tells us the reason he recorded the signs that Jesus did - - - so "that you would believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God". Christ and Son of God in the Bible are always titles for created beings, especially human beings. If you interpret a few words in John's Gospel to mean that Jesus is God, I think you are insisting that you know better than the author why he wrote his gospel. I would suggest believing the author, and not claim to know better than him. The only God in the Gospel of John is the Father. The God in Jesus was the Father (John 14:6-20). The "Word was God" is not an ontological statement, but a statement of agency or representation. The man Christ Jesus (The Word) was God at work, speaking and acting.

Jesus HAD BEEN the almighty God. He already made ALL his work in a distant past. When his work was completed, He got rid of his almighty power to become me like a normal man: the Son of God. From that past the almighty God is able to be here in the form of a spirit. He is the Spirit of God.

@claudio zanella, Trinitarians say John 1:14 means that the 2nd Person of the Trinity united himself to the human fetus of Jesus in the womb of Mary. Where is that in the Bible? This idea is a doctrine created in 451 AD by the Greek philosophers, and it is called "The Doctrine of The Hypostatic Union." Sir, What do you do with Acts 10:37, 38? If Jesus was born with a dual nature, as Trinitarians claim, why would God the Father need to give Jesus the power to perform his ministry? Jesus himself said on an occasion that God the Father "does the works." Where was God the Son, who was supposedly born united to the human Jesus? He never did a single thing for 33 years as God the Son united to the man Jesus! Was he dormant? Was he Absent With Out Leave? AWOL? This Scripture in Act 10:38 conflicts with the concept that Jesus was God! As Peter says in Acts 2:22, God the Father worked "THROUGH the MAN" Jesus, and in Acts 10:38, "...God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with him." Which member of the Trinity was with him? Not the 2nd Person because he didn't do anything for all of the 33years. (And BTW, do you think he died on the cross with the man Jesus? Please: God cannot die either!) It was God the Father, the only person in the Godhead (John 17:3), who performed all of the miracles of Jesus; as Peter declares in Acts 2:22, "Jesus the Nazarene, a Man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know-" Whenever the Bible says the word "God" it is always talking about God the Father. Never anything about the Greek philosophical, metaphysical Trinitarian so-called "God The Son!" The phrase is not even in the Bible. It's extra-Biblical wording! You are following Platonic Christianity if you are a Trinitarian. It is not Hebrew/Apostolic Christianity at all. The Greek philosophers who were the Catholic Church Fathers corrupted the Apostolic doctrines big-time! Jesus was never the Almighty God: That would make two Gods and two Yahwehs. Quite impossible! More than 1,300 times, God says He is one!

@@geraldhancock6208 1. I am not trinitarian, on the contrary I think that doctrine is fully illogical and contrary to the scriptures. 2. Nobody understood a thing, not even the apostles "Have I been with you so long and still you do not known me, Philip?" this is why I ONLY follows Jesus' words: the only One who perfectly knows the matter. 3. At the ROOT of this whole matter there is a LOGICAL ISSUE. The almighty God knows the future, more particularly the ACTUAL future: EXACTLY what it will really happen! But that ACTUAL future also includes many God's actions. Well, God has no intention to be OBLIGED to EXACTLY carry out all the God's actions LISTED in that future. It's not necessary: as far as He is concerned God simply states "so be it", that's all and He is free. Indeed "being almighty" also means "NEVER carry out REDUNDANT ACTIONS". 4. Due to point 3. God does not dwell here among us now. Rather, He manifests himself in three different ways: Father, Son and Spirit of God (AKA Holy Spirit). However, they are NOT three different Persons, no triune God exists.

You said, "Jesus HAD BEEN the almighty God." No, that is not right. Because that would make 2 God's, and Jesus said in John 17.3 that the Father alone is God. There are over 1,300 occurrences in the Old Testament where God said I am one.

@@geraldhancock6208 The almighty God is not here, He dwells in a far distant past, so that ("the world has not known you"). This is why "no man has seen God at any time". But from that past He is able to reach to us, He is here only in the limited form of a spirit though. Thus, the only One actually existing God here is the Son. He is the only Owner and King of heaven. Only One God exists.

@@claudiozanella256 So who said “This is my son in whom I am well pleased.” When Jesus was baptized? You’re speaking philosophy and not scripture my friend.
