MM was our childhoods. We all experienced something truly special. I didn't know any of you and you didn't know me, but we all got to share the same things. A real masterpiece.

Speaking of Zelda games built on engines of their previous entries; Twilight Princess was also amongst these, as it was built using a modified version of the engine used for Wind Waker (minus the cel shader).

This was a great finale to this journey. I really loved the in-depth discussion about the crunch during Part 3; it really added some perspective to the whole matter, and yeah I agree that this game wasn't the first with crunch, but the short deadline was breaking point that led to Nintendo taking the approach of delaying games whenever they needed to. As for the world, I have to say Clock Town and the people within it were one of my favourite aspects of the game; it added a lot more emotional depth to the story and made it all the more rewarding when you saw how the world changed for the better after completing the quests and dungeons. Whilst I really wish we could have gotten a town/sidequest system like this again in later games, I can respect the developers for saying that they've explored all they can with that idea and want to move onto other things. In short, whilst Majora's Mask is still my favourite game in the series, I can still that this is a unique that can't (or shouldn't) be made again. Looking forward to the bonus episodes. Keep up the great work ^_^

The "Way of the Samurai" series uses a gameplay based time loop, that isn't narratively present to the characters in the story, but the player is meant to play the same period of days over and over, trying out different branching paths in the story based on what you do or don't do. The first game had a 3 day cycle, and if you are observant enough, you can achieve the "good" ending by doing all the right things. The second game used a 7 day cycle, like the original plan for Majora's Mask. Its interesting to see the difference this makes for the player, between a 3 day cycle and a 7 day cycle.

🔥Most enjoyable! Great episode! I love the behind the scenes feel of this episode. The other end of season/recap episodes have a similar feel, but this one really nailed it! 🔥

On the subject of Termina Field not feeling like a real place because of the abrupt climate changes- Im so glad you mentioned that detail. I agree that it makes it feel less like a real place, but I liked that. The whole game has an absurd, surreal feeling (eg the aliens, the way the moon looks, the happy mask man’s whole vibe). And so I came to appreciate how surreal it is- so surreal that the climate changes along a direct straight border between regions. It really added to the heightened, fever dream feeling of the whole game for me.

This was an awesome video series. I've been listening to it in both podcast form and videos form, and it's such a wonderful treat. I'd love to offer whatever info I have about the Oracle games when you get to them, I'm probably the person who knows the ins and outs about those titles than most people and their impact on the future director of the series Fujibayashi.

Outer Wilds is without exaggeration the best game that I've ever played, play it as blind as possible, what you know about the game is your progress in it, so you can only play it as intended once. But I wholly recommend it

Majora's Mask was the first Zelda game I owned. It means so much to me and it's such a unique game. No, Termina is A REAL place, its characters ARE REAL PEOPLE. I know how much debate there is to this day about whether video games are art or not, and the harder they try to be, sometimes, the further they stray from it. MM is art because you can tell its designersa and programmers put so much of them into it. So much soul, innovation, pathos... It's certainly one of a kind.

It is a little sad to think that they may never revisit the time mechanics of Majora. I do feel like there is potential for something similar in the future, but oh well. We’ll always have Termina. 😉

I love the aspects of it's troubled development that leaked into the story though, the deadline, the all nighter mask, the general tone of hopelessness. There's so much emotional depth in this game that's completely lacking in every other Zelda game

Never ceases to amaze me how much unpaid labor went into these games
@ScottSheppardTheWombat9 ай бұрын
While I understand the sentiment, that's not technically accurate. A salaried employee has a fixed salary. Bad culture that exists supported by passionate developers in an environment of peer pressure? Yes. Unpaid labor? No. Just want to make sure we're clear on definitions.

you really need a better mic. the quality is pretty hard on the ears, especially since this is a podcast.

I'm about ready to buy one and ship it to him gratis. Fastest way to increase perceived production quality is to boost audio quality. Paul, if you read this, reach out.

Just to throw another opinion in, the sound quality of this podcast is so much easier on my ears than a lot of others with "high end" mics. Something they do to the voice, not sure what it is, consistently hurts my ears and make them harder to listen to for me.

Another KZbinr summarizing a game that everyone here knows already. You are providing nothing new here. You aren’t contributing anything creatively. There is no point to these videos. You’re talking about a subject that has been talked to death. There’s nothing more to be said. You’d serve yourself and society better by making something of your own.
@ScottSheppardTheWombat9 ай бұрын
lol. What do you mean exactly? Paul did the work of playing through the game with an in depth critical eye, then comparing his and others experiences against interviews with the developers. He then presented it in a cohesive video essay format condensed into ~20 minutes. I'm a HUGE Zelda buff, and I learned stuff from him. I believe that's the literal definition of providing value. Is talking about the Bible or Aristotle or the impacts of Citizen Kane on society also not worth discussing? Paul IS making something of his own...
@imonly1man_9 ай бұрын
and you're somehow "serving society" by... being the millionth unnecessary hate commenter? i don't follow
@miura_vs9 ай бұрын
@@imonly1man_ No hate here. If you genuinely learned something new from this video, good for you. I doubt you’re being entirely honest with yourself about that, but I could be wrong. Either way, I think your time would be better served playing the game yourself, and reflecting on your own experience, rather than relying on a KZbinr to tell you what happened in the game, beat by beat, and how you should feel. There are so many videos about this game, and they’re nearly all full of the same information. Anyone would have a difficult time arguing against that. To reiterate, I think people’s time would be better served by creating something for themselves, rather talking about how much they enjoyed a decades-old (albeit amazing) game. We all played it. We all love it. Great. Now, take that energy and put it into something unique, rather than another youtube video about how great this game is. Everyone knows already. Move on.
@asweat084 ай бұрын
@@miura_vsyou’re assuming everyone watching has already played the game and researched it a bunch. What if this is the first Majora’s Mask video I’ve ever watched? (It is). Maybe this information is available other places but I opened KZbin and searched Majora’s mask and here was a great video with a great length (I’m not about to watch a feature length film about this game). This video is obviously and objectively valuable.
@asweat084 ай бұрын
@@miura_vs you’re just being unkind for no reason. Not only to the creator of the video but to everyone who watched and enjoyed it, by implying if we got something out of such a “useless” video we must not be real Zelda fans
