Honestly for me Ateez are really special, they just have something in their music and voices, I can’t really explain it but I’m a multi and I’ve always listened to a huge variety of music both in and out of K-pop, and since discovering Ateez they have steadily climbed to the very top for me. They just have IT. I know for sure that I’ll always be tuning in in their new music, MVs and literally anything else they produce. And I’m also incredibly excited for whenever they’ll have solo projects in the future, no matter how long I’ll need to wait.

Literally same. I have loved and listened to so many different genres and styles of music, but when I started getting into K-pop I was like ‘where has this been hiding?’ And I became a avid listener. But when ateez came is I was like ‘holy moly these guys are amazing!’ I have not disliked a single of there songs and I’m very happy. They are such and amazing, sweet, adorable, crazy group and I will forever be and ATINY. I’m so glad I’m not the only one curious about their solo careers!

my goodness this album is a masterpiece. hongjoongs verse in wake up was INSANE and he even did it live on the spot for like an interview or something i dont remember the details but it was even better somehow. hes crazy. my personal favorites are this world and outlaw.... they just hittt but every song is such a 10/10 they went insane on this album. they said once that they know a song is done when its a sound ONLY ateez can do and i just absolutely agree. this is the type of stuff only they can do and make it sound this good! also idk if you want spoilers for the CB but dont worry its not a big spoiler lol but san said this comeback title track is the CRAZIEST song theyve done and the hardest most intense choreo.. he said the members all just fall to the ground when they are done with 1 run through. LIKE WHAT??? I AM SO READY AND SEATED FOR THIS..

AHHH!!! I know what u mean!! Just down with the first 2 songs and YES. It sounds so resentful 🤌🤌 not to mention, Yeosang’s lines in Dune during the chorus… “out of everyone, why was it me?… who should I blame?” I mean… WOW. This album gave us everything we could ever want, from the dynamic vocals from ALL of the vocalists, to the different cadences from Mingi and Hongjoong, AND THAT FAST ASS RAP FROM HONGJOONGGGGGGGGGGGGG I’ll never shut up about it if u ask me what I think of it… The singing rap, the whispering. AND SEONGHWA! I haven’t forgotten him, oh no, of course I couldn’t. HIS RAPPING TOO!! His voice suits rapping so much. And GOD, if the instrumental of each song doesn’t make me lose my voice, then nothing will. EVERY SINGLE BRIDGE IN EACH SONG LEFT ME BREATHLESS!!! Jongho has once again OUTDONE himself. WHAT WAS THAT HIGHNOTE IN OUTLAW???? I’ve always known San had those PIPES in him, but his otherworldly performance sometimes overshadows his GIFTED voice. I mean his verses in Django and especially DUNE?? Lock him up for being too good of an All-Rounder 🙏🙏😵💫😵💫 And wtf goes on with Wooyoung’s wispy, soft and almost taunting tone in his singing?? “oOpS yaH” get outta here Wooyoung 🥴🙈🙈 I just LOVE Yunho’s voice. He has such a range that it’s ridiculous how many people overlook it. It’s so hypnotising. HE BETTER NOT WHUSPER INTO MY EAR AGAIN WITH THAT TABGTANGTANG BUSINESS I especially love when they all come together to sing together like a chant, I just KNOW when this is finally performed live, the concerts and stages would OVERLOAD anyone’s senses 😭😭🤌🤌✨✨ I really have NO IDEA HOW they’re gonna TOP THIS??? Good lord, we even have a full-album to look forward to… I can see my grave already 🥹🥹✨✨

YES! it’s so emotional but like angry emotions LMAO Every single second of this album went wild Seonghwa rapping will always feed us !!!!!!!!!!! Jongho wake up chorus into outlaw highnote😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫 SAN’s voice is somehow slept on you’re so right 😭woo’s bits are always so great. And yunho…..my yunho I LIVE for their chants!!! The World trilogy may end up being the greatest 3 album run in pop….let me chill tho.. Full album ftw

YOU. AAAAAAA. I literally don’t have anything to say but FINALLY. Finally a reactor who noticed the “Hala Hala” in Dune, the references by Mingi and Hongjoong in their raps 😭 every time I watch a reactor and they DID NOT CATCH OR KNOW THE “HALA HALA” I couldn’t help but be heartbroken a little bit. And if it’s not clear enough my biases are the rap duos they’re insaneeeee in Outlaw oh my god. Hongjoong’s solo in Wake Up is nasty 😩 just the whole album being so resentful as you said is sooo 😩🫶, they embodied what they want to present so so DAMN well. I’m specifically talking about the rap duo is because their involvement in the producing and writing the songs. Like how do these 2 people get to do this???? And not saying this because the others are less or whatever. BUT. MINGI AND HONGJOONG. The way they can weave their ways around the mood of the album, writing their own lyrics to FIT the lore + vibes at the same time. Hongjoong too, I think his voice is his biggest instrument, like voice actor, how he delivers I think is the best in kpop idk (maybe alongside Changbin lol). Can’t forget Jongho going even better than he already is.., remembered that he said he’s giving better this album, but is not yet the best. I can’t imagine his best. Yunho’s gratata too.. ateez should officially has deep ass voice line (MG, YH, YS). Aaaaand I’m sorry I keep going on about the rap duo.. but you saying that “Mingi is owning this album, Mingi’s era” that validates me so much 😭 it’s just that I’ve seen the dislikes towards his rap style, that he’s not as flexible as HJ and stuff like that. But the way you said this album is so resentful, and my own opinion that Mingi’s rap style being like that (kind of angry, shouting, on your face), like it just seems like that’s why his sounds fit this album a lot. (Edit to this last sentence. I wrote this comment before you said “his vocals are hitting the tone of this album so much” BRO??? YOUR BRAIN? MY BRAIN? SORRY IM JUST SO EXCITEDDD to see another Mingi bias that go deep brainrot like this aside from myself 😭) I ALSO NOTICED YOU NOTICED THE SECTOR 1 SHOUT OUT 😭 maybe because you’re so deep in the lore lol but it’s refreshing to seeeeee. Can’t wait for the world fin and how they’ll set the mood after such an angry album like this
@Strokiemane Жыл бұрын
😭😭😭you can’t sneak a Hala Hala reference by me ELITE biases and I so so so agree with the HJ instrument voice bit.. that’s SO important in rap. And he does it so well (good Changbin shout too😭) Jongho had some insane moments..he always does but wow.. and u REALLY don’t ever have to apologize for bringing up the rap line😭😭those are my BOYS man..LMFAO WERE SO LOCKED IN😭😭 seriously this is like an album made for Mingi he fits SO SO SO WELL Sector 1 reference stood out sooo bad lol THIS ALBUM IS SO MUCH

The beginning of This World gave me so much Stranger Things vibes idk. The vocals in this whole album are so haunting and somewhat sireny??? Like I’m being hypnotized fr. This World really makes me feel like I’m ready for the dark I’m ready for this world LMAOOO. Like they’re really influencing me to be part of their rebellion. I would join so fast if they played this out on the streets. The cartoon villain ass sound at the end is so good I love it sm. OMFG DUNE ALWAYS HITS SO HARD. I love how it’s so rugged at the start, then it becomes smoother with the vocals, AND THEN YEOSANG COMES IN WITH HIS DEMON VOICE. Mans literally looks like an angel and yet he’s capable of pulling out a voice like that, like wow just wow. Ughh and then Jongho comes in with the OHHHHHHHHH LIKE SINGGGG OMGGG. The emotions and anger they portray through this album is so intense, I totally agree with you. I feel like with Movement, they were literally just trying to wake everybody up and get people to, well, move. But with Outlaw, they’re really going against everything in a way. Like the outrage they express, it’s soooo good. Dude bc the way the rap verses come in, godly. The way the guitar shows up and Mingi just starts spitting. Not to mention the TRANSITION from him to Hongjoong??? I love love loveee when HJ goes thirsty AHH like OMG. THE WAY AT THE END IT'S LIKE THIS CREEPY ASS CHOIR SOUND AND JH AND YS’S VOICES MERGE TOGETHER I LOVE IT SMMMM. Like the big climax is just too good. The contrast, the way it all comes to life, Ateez is gonna eat every time, that’s for sure. This album truly just gets better and better as you listen through it. No bc they really EVOLVED through their albums. They keep improving and trying new things, reaching new heights and achievements ALWAYS. They don’t know how to stop fr. I totally get why you feel that this album is so different. Bouncy never gets old, it’s such a banger. SLOW IT DOWNNN MAKE IT BOUNCYYYY. Also rapper Seonghwa. That’s all I need to say. I just think about how funny their duality is. Like you see them and you see performance monsters, intimidating looks, sick ass fashion. But then you see them outside of performing and they’re just the sweetest and silliest. Django’s ending is such a killing point. Like Yunho did that fr. That was so hot of him. I remember that ending being teased at one of their concerts I think, and everyone (including me) went INSANE. Also side note since you mentioned pink Mingi, there’s a photoshoot behind with those exact outfits in the lyric video. It’s titled “ATEEZ(에이티즈) - [THE WORLD EP.2 : OUTLAW] JACKET Making Film”. You get to see them all looking scrumptious, with the addition of them being adorable with each other. SO WAKE UUUUUUUPPPPPPP OHHHHHHHHHHH. HJ’s rap in Wake Up, I was speechless. And the giggle before it started??? He knew he was gonna eat. Outlaw is so cunty idkidk. Like ESP with the choreo at the chorus. Something about it is so sultry. Like shy in a way??? It feels held back, but in a good way. It’s super light and airy too?? Keeping you on your toes typa thing. PLUS MG’S LAZY RAP OMG AND THE WHOLE ASS PARTY AT THE END. I remember being in legit tears watching the showcase live. It was literally so overwhelming I was crying. It was too good fr. This has been an AMAZING journey. I am so happy to have been here since the beginning. I’ve loved seeing your love and passion for them grow. Here’s to more Ateez content and the new comeback on the way!!! I can’t wait to experience their new releases with you, from Atiny to Atiny.

No I get that. The synths these last two albums have been wild. YES even beyond the great vocals they’re carrying on the “voice as an instrument” motif from movement and I LOVE it 😭😭 we will be on the front lines 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫 I really really appreciate how emotive these songs have been for these 2 albums. Truly things are so raw like we can really FEEL everytbing they mean The raps, the choir sound, the evolution, I can’t imagine a better lead up to this coming album..I genuinely have no clue what to expect… Seeing the showcase live😵💫 WOW what a journey it has been (so far, cuz boy is there a bunch of stuff left😭) Thank you for being such a big part! I've been sick and out of work for the past three days, so it's given me plenty of time to catch up on things, and watch your album review videos, which I've really enjoyed. I could easily continue this comment for half an hour or more, but I won't do that to either of us. I'll just thank you for your thorough deep dive and genuine interest in, and love of, Ateez--and everything that encompasses. I love getting to re-experience things through new eyes (and ears), and I love to see new fans, and people that just *get* it. I hope you get a lot of joy out of Ateez for a long time to come. I've been listening to kpop for a little over 3 years now, and I'd listened to several groups, and fallen for one in particular, before I came across Ateez, a little over 2 years ago. It was love at first sight, lol. They felt like home to me. They just felt....*right*, whatever that means. I'm still a multistan and enjoy several groups, but Ateez have been my ult group (and Yeosang is my ult bias in all of kpop) for two years now, and I can't wait to see where they take us next! Thanks, again, for giving your time and effort to get to know the guys and their music.

This album is so good. I get Queen vibes from a lot of songs except the chorus of Wakeup which feels dystopian Beach Boys to me 😂. Mingi came out for blood in the showcase. Aggressive. You should definitely re-watch the Outlaw performance--you were so into the groove after the chorus that it looked like you missed the satisfying choreo. BB Trippin always knows how to put together moves that perfectly embody the music. I can't wait for you to get into other ATEEZ content. I suggest starting with their pre-debut show KQ Fellaz and the 4 KQ Fellaz performance videos (one is a Yunho solo).

Glad you made it :D Music that sounds weird...seems to be my kind of music I guess. Until today, nothing get's me hyped like Block B's Nilili Mambo, Zero for Conduct or Jackpot (not even ATEEZ songs, I'm sorry 😢). Block B had the craziness and the sass. And I like the melodic, playing with your voice kind of raps Zico did (Hongjoong is my bias). The other group I loved was B.A.P, I still have so many songs of them on my playlist like One Shot, Skydive and Wake me up. They had the epic sound, the rock vibes.. and the belting. Put that together and you get ATEEZ. Does that even make sense? 🤔I stan them since I heard Say my name for the first time. And they're only getting better every comeback 🌺 I can't wait for the new one 😆

Movement was definitely a masterpiece and completely different than anything I've heard in the k-pop world before, and I still haven't heard anything else close. I think the reason why most of us love movement but also collectively love Outlaw maybe a little more simply boils down to the fact that we had more time with movement. I personally had 6 months of obsessing over Halazia and Movement and pretty much all of their title tracks (I didn't deep dive into b-sides on the albums earlier than movement until after Outlaw) so I had that time to really love all of it, and be so extremely excited for Outlaw, being my first comeback as an atiny. I was also in a very dark place mentally in my life at that time and very angry with the world, so that might have something to do with my extreme love of Outlaw, too. I had been laid off work just before the comeback so I had time on my hands and when Bouncy dropped I literally stayed up the entire night streaming the m/v, then took my son to school and fell asleep for 4 hours, then got up and streamed bouncy more casually throughout the rest of the day while doing the things I needed to do. Out of that first 24 hours, I was probably streaming for 18 hours. I didn't actually listen to the rest of the album until I had to drive to take my son to school and then drive to pick him back up, and therefore had to put on spotify instead of youtube. I was just enthralled. I still absolutely love all of Outlaw despite now having it for 5 months, and I still can't settle on a favourite song. My top 3 are This World, Dune, and Django, though, I think 😅 though I do love the energy of Bouncy, and I absolutely love Hongjoongs verse in Wake up, but Outlaw definitely sits at the bottom for me, despite having an insane Mingi verse and crazy Jongho high note, which of course means nothing because I still love Outlaw, it's just a really good song amongst absolutely amazing songs.
@Strokiemane Жыл бұрын
mm the point you make about sitting with the album and allowing it to build that natural hype line into Outlaw makes a lot of sense. Movement is still a moment in time for me that I cannot get over, no matter how much I loved listening to Outlaw if I’m being honest. But I do wonder if even this little time I have to let it marinate with me will give me a similar effect on Will as it did for you with Outlaw. I have such a genuine appreciation for the power music can have on our daily lives and outlook. It can be such a massive, all-encompassing presence, and I cherish that. I can tell how meaningful this album was for you, the way you can recount every detail of your first experience with it. And I think, in spite of any circumstances, that’s beautiful 💙 This world has been receiving love from a lot of y’all and I cannot be more happy. Wake Up is still my fav tbh, but you really can’t go wrong.
@vixiecat Жыл бұрын
I have a theory as to why Movement and Outlaw sound so different and angry.. and like, they’re getting ready to go to war. Because lore wise, they ARE getting for “war” against the government of Strictland but..putting on my loretiny hat.. Movement and Outlaw are Halateez albums. Everything that’s come before have been ATEEZ besides Hala Hala, Wonderland. Which, if you think back to it, are both relatively angry battlecry type songs. It makes sense when thinking about Halateez specifically because they’re pissed. Their government has gone full 1984 (George Orwell) and that’s reason enough to get mad. So, not only do we have that..we have the realization that the ‘be free’ girl is there. That they’ve woken up one kid and find that ALL the kids are being indoctrinated. I’d be pissed off, too. Edit: Outlaw is a diss track 😊

they just didn't give us to BREATHE on this two albums, like imagine having movement and after it outlaw - no ballads, no sweet pop songs, just meaty beats and strong instrumentals and crazy vocals and raping hard as fuck and its just one after one, it makes me mad how good and fire this is dont forget lore and visuals in mv's I also realy like how they build an albums structure, new world is the last song on movement - but they use it like an openning song on tour concerts and it realy sounds like an introduction on outlaw they finish this dark agressive story with this more easy and almost playful winnig song and the last sound of it - just major light fading melody and you just left asking "and that's it?I want more?? Guys, wait for me, don't run away!" but outlaw boys already somewhere far ahead It's a simple move - to put intro kind song in the end of your album to make it feel like captivating neverending story, with such clifhangers, it may seem easy when you think about it afterwards, but this is just so smart and beautifuly exicuted, gooosh I love ateez so much. sorry for my english btw, I 'm not naitive so I can sound like a five years old ateez lunatic, which is actualy not that far away from the truth :.) ty for sharing, for your journey, it was sooo exiting and the way you now see all of this lore pieses, so satisfying

THE END OF THE BEGINNING I am really glad I came across your reactions right at the beginning and getting to watch your journey and expand on my own journey. I feel some type of way after watching as it happened and now we are here. Bittersweet? Now there is soooo much to watch and listen to… so much content! Just last night, I came across a Chuseok version of Deja Vu and Eternal Sunshine that I never saw before. It was sooo funny/cute! Did you know there are three episodes of Wanteez (episodes 19 - 21) where Ateez gets absolutely sloshed on Soju? If you haven’t watched that, I’d love to see your reaction to that. 😁 Oh.. and both Showterviews. Annndd all the behind the scenes and ATEEZ’s own reactions to their videos. On to the reaction… I listen to the Outlaw album beginning to end often because it is such a cohesive ride. It just flows and builds. How this is not up for tons of awards is beyond me. It is a sonic beast. This World One of my two favorite songs from Outlaw. Someone made a League of Legends video using This World and it was amazing. 4:06 Yes! This World sounds like Muse and The Weeknd had a baby to me. Dune 12:20 I love how they are using the lyrics to come full circle from their earlier work. Sooo much thought has went into this album. Bouncy TMI… The goat’s name is Mang-kot. 21:13 I love their reaction video to Bouncy when It showed Mingi belly rolling over his carnage and the rest of the members’ are like wth? Django Most of the members said Django or Bouncy is their favorite song on the album. I like this is the start of being open threatening. Run if you want… we are coming to get you. From here on out, they are totally dominate. Wake Up What is this song??? It is INSANE structurally, but just works. It is like they used this sound to try everything they’ve wanted to try. Jongho… oh Jongho. No one else could make this song work like Ateez does. Only them. Outlaw Outlaw is topping my playlist right now. It is my official morning song to pep me up. Why is there no MV to this song? I need more people to hear this song. IF THEY DONT DO THIS SONG IN CONCERT, I AM STARTING A PETITION. Mingi owns Outlaw. 35:20 I wear this section out. I love it so much! All the way through Mingi’s downward flow. Arrghhhh! LOVE IT. 37:33 I MEAN COME ON! I can’t not move to this section. Whew! (sorry… I need sooommeone who understands to know how much I love this song) Showcase They all look amazing. Pink, short-haired Mingi came on the scene and really said THIS IS NOT EVEN MY FINAL FORM. He was strong from the beginning and just dominates the stage when he centers. 50:35 I just wanted to take a moment to fawn over Seonghwa. Every comeback he has been leveling up and he looks and sounds amazing. He has really become a true ace. He can do everything.

Haha be as biased as you like, Mingi deserves all the praise and love! For me, personally, the Movement, From the Witness and most of all the Outlaw were Yeosang and Wooyoung's eras, it feels like they really discovered and/or tried new ways to use their voices, really letting Yeosang dig deep (his parts of the Dune were _demonic_ ). And Wooyoung in turn has such a light voice, it's almost hauntingly light in some songs yet also can have a lot of kick behind it too! But really overall, I agree that this era has been different, and I find it beautiful and very exciting to see them evolving musically too. The songs are very cohesive, full of such intense, lore-heavy songs! And what has stuck out to me really is how damn beautiful and powerful these lyrics have been! Outlaw is also such a perfect name for this album! Being an outlaw is always a matter of perspective - if the laws in the place where you live are wrong, if they deny your right to exist as a human being, then becoming an outlaw is inevitable in a way. And living outside unjust laws is perhaps even preferable to living under them. And songs in the Outlaw album really hit that message home, in my opinion. I can't decide - or don't want to - which is my favourite album and even choosing my favourite song is very hard. Halazia tho has a very special place in my heart, it is more or less my favourite ATEEZ' song together with Answer (my forever queen).

mmmm it’s impossible to deny Woo or Yeosang as owners of The World era in general😭 especially yeosang that boy was digging deep as HELL, so so good. I agree! Yet again, a perfectly delivered concept album from Ateez. Choosing a fav song is a near impossible endeavor for me LOL. Personally I’m still going Movement with my fav (hehe😅) but even then it’s so so close.

Honestly I agree with you when I was trying to just browse into kpop ATEEZ music was not on my radar it was pretty much the expected sounds associated with kpop. However I stayed as a fan because they were making music which was their own take and refreshingly different wrt lyrics have themes and meaning . My favourite song is wake up. This album in my opinion was about them struggling with their feelings as halateez, them asking people to wake up and outlaw is finally them telling people to wake up in Strickland and becoming outlaws with mischievous in a way finally after starting the movement in the EP1 . It is meant to feel like a cliff-hanger because ep 3 is the next chapter. The circle in the background is kind of the eye in the sky i that is watching you in Strickland .If you look at bouncy lyrics it literally them declaring this is our sound, this is how i will do it, if you want to know I will show you because its mine.

Ayeee a fellow Wake Up enjoyer 🤞🤞🤞 I like the idea of these being Halateez albums and it explaining their feelings more! And outlaw definitely felt like a bit of a cliffhanger/build up to part 3!

i'll write the obligatory dune comment, since i've read the book (still getting through the second one, but i think i have a pretty good grasp of themes/ideas in the series). just to preface, dune is a dystopian novel (like the other literature that has been referenced in the world series), and is the granddaddy of scifi as a genre (dune has been both referenced and copied in a lot of different scifi media over the years. i also like star wars, but its inspirations and direct rip-offs from dune are undeniable. apparently warhammer 40k is similarly 'inspired'). i like dune and find the philosophical questions it raises interesting, though i find it is also flawed and is worthy of criticism for, imo, some of its concepts being pretty gender essentialist, as well as arguments of orientalism and appropriation of MENA/the islamic world's cultures and language (if any strokie viewers from these communities feel qualified to discuss this in further detail, please feel free to respond!). i hope that some of the specific terms i bring up in relation to the novel are not construed for the political connotations they may now have, as we must also keep in mind that the us political climate and popular world issues at the time that the novels were written and published was very different to contemporary geopolitical affairs. as to how dune pertains to ateez lore/concepts, most of my analysis is probably going to be more of a long shot or subtextual (unfortunately dune is not directly referenced like lord of the rings is, except for maybe in the song title dune), as well as possible predictions for future comebacks and story plot. with that out of the way, let's get into it! some of the big ideas raised in dune are: -destiny/fate vs free will (👀) -nature/ecology and its impacts from and on humans (i think this is the least relevant to ateez, and we will not get into it here) -the moral dilemmas and suffering caused by power -colonialism/empires (a part of other relevant themes to ateez, but this specifically doesn't fit into the lore and won't be talked about) -religion as a means of control -the dangers of charismatic/messianic leaders, and fanaticism in dune, the protagonist of the first novel and catalyst of events in the rest of the series, paul atreides, is born with and develops his ability to see possible futures through consumption of the spice melange (k-hot chili peppers tease/cheongyang gochu vibes? bio energy in world z?). part of his future visions include a jihad/holy war in his name which leads to the deaths of billions of people across the galaxy. throughout the novel, as he gains more and more power, he makes feeble attempts to prevent the future conflict. though, the more he ascends, there are fewer and fewer options to avoid the war, which ends up happening anyway (sorry for spoiling. his son faces a similar dilemma in the sequels, but i won't spoil further). the question of whether the future is going to happen in spite of or because of these decisions/actions, i believe, might show up in ateez content after the world series. the time loop idea and mechanism of the cromer may come to higher thematic fruition (i think these ideas have already been teased by what happens to yunho's brother (rip), and how yunho, in spite of his precautions, fails to save him twice. was his bro always predestined to die? must he make peace and accept that certain things are out of his control, or did things happen because of how he tried to control them? who knows). the power struggles throughout dune (it's basically galactic game of thrones. yay space feudalism) highlight the human suffering inflicted by these conflicts, and the moral dilemma of seeking power (paul is never altruistic in his intent to gain power, as the fights between him and other noble houses happen bc of the entitlement and birthright of nobility, which isn't necessarily questioned or condoned in the novel, and doesn't really correlate to ateez). it seems that no one can maintain power without oppressing others. in dune, power is gained through warfare and violence, and the subjugation of civilians through royal negotiations. and there is the general political fear (irl) of betraying former ideals of freedom and crossing moral boundaries in order to maintain control. basically, you flipped the power paradigm (see what i did there) and became the new regime, i.e. living long enough to become the villain. how this pertains to ateez will be further explored in analysis of the next couple of themes. religion is a ginormous aspect of the entire series. there isn't really a separation of church and state, as the political system is modeled more after the medieval period. there's an order of women basically coded as nuns or women practicing judaism (linguistic roots of certain names in hebrew) that are secretly, heavily involved in governing the galactic empire (i think this gets into dangerous antisemitic tropes and implications, so i don't want to closely connect this as an allegory to real life religions. no matter anyone's stance on religion, the bene gesserit in dune are NOT jewish OR christian, and should not be referred to as such, out of respect). there's also the fremen, the indigenous people of arrakis/dune, whose language and culture is highly referential of islamic culture (same thing applies here. no islamophobia or fear mongering). paul takes advantage of and exploits the fremen religious belief in a messiah in order to gather an army for his eventual takeover of the entire galaxy (while he becomes part of their community and partakes in their culture, the weaponization of their religion cannot be ignored and is crucial to understanding the story. though the current regime has colonized fremen lands and erased their culture, paul still uses them in his own self-interest while pretending to advocate for them). i think some of the ideas of fanaticism are teased in the spin-off prologue and halazia. unwavering belief and uncritical, zealous support in/of saviors is dangerous, and may allow us to fall into the hands of despots and tyrants. just as it's stated in the movement trailers, we must always question ourselves. at what point does fighting for justice cross into visiting injustice upon others? the lyrics and ideas in the outlaw album take a much darker tone to movement's aspirations for rebellion. specifically in this world and dune, we see the blurring lines of good and evil, right and wrong, when one is acting as an outlaw. is it alright to commit potentially immoral deeds for the future greater good? what do we consider justified and unjustified? and there is the importance of perspective-- is it freedom fighting, or terrorism? we see this in how z/the government views the black pirates as sense offenders/disruptors to what they consider the best course for humanity, as well as in the initial feelings of the boy's brother. it's also brought up in movement, but do we have a right to 'liberate' people, even if they don't wish to be? do we have the potential to be as oppressive as the systems we are fighting against? these are all concepts and philosophical questions that i hope ateez might endeavor to explore further. as always, my analysis is mine alone and not an official interpretation. please respond if you disagree, i love dialogues. you can also find more scholarly resources and analysis of dune, this is just my layman's rundown. if you have further interest, i suggest continuing to research dune, as well as arthurian legend (might makes right, vs right makes might), and utilitarianism. i hope this helped a little, strokie! :)

Thanks for the dune talk/explanation. I know it was a big dog in the sci fi genre just based on the hype surrounding this recent Dune movie run. I appreciate your mentioning of the antiquated themes throughout the original story but also the context for them. Personally, looking back at media from previous eras is always an interesting balance of understanding the context of the era it was created but also kinda having my own mental boundaries😭 this is not *really* related to what u mentioned btw but just thinking about what you mentioned made me think about this whole process LOL. Like I watched Cant Hardly Wait today and I was like “oh I like this movie” and then r realized there are random transphobic and racist and homophobic jokes just for no reason and I was like..damn lol. And that’s only 25 years ago! ok sorry for the aside ik u brought it up in the context of greater political themes and how it was still a departure for its era, I just wanted to yap for a bit LOL. I’m making comments as a read just in case this reads in a weird way LOL. First, Dune sounds like an interesting tale. I think the idea of the predetermined war and carnage can be roughly represented by Halazia? not that I think they’re trying to tell the story of Dune or anything LOL just my initial thought hearing this kinda made me think about a theory I heard about Halazia showing the aftermath of a battle between Halateez and the government which led to the (public) death of halateez and we were witnessing the aftermath into the moment Ateez got there in the M/V? Lot of words for a theory I have neither thought about nor believe in really so my fault but that was the first thing I thought of lol I think the explanation of religion is interesting because like u mentioned with halazia a bit, and also the existence of a cult that has kinda been let go for a bit since it was introduced, depictions of fanatical belief in a greater, dominating concept *do* come in to play in the ateez story. None of these aspects are inherently religious in the traditional sense, but are largely driven by an idea of faith in a greater concept so I can make that mental stretch personally LOL. Ah literally as I finish this typing u address it LOL yea I agree with ur assessment and the eventual thematic questions you bring up! I *personally* think, while genuinely philosophically interesting, the concept of “the oppressed retaliating and becoming the oppressor” is a bit overplayed in fiction because a lot of the time creators try and blur lines between good and evil a bit too much when I would have a clear opinion lol. One example that kinda upset me was in the The Last of Us tv adaptation actually. idk if u watched it, but at one point the survivors staged successful, but *violent* rebellion against the Federal agency that was in control over a city. It was explained throughout the episode that the Feds were violating and brutalizing the citizens for 20 straight years, which led to the severity of the eventual retaliation. The creator of the show eventually said that this section was to explain that often times the rebellion can be as bad or even worse than what they’re rebelling against, and I was like “I think i can comfortably say the FEDS were worse” lol. I’m already super weary about media that handles topics like this because I am an *opinionated* person, to say the least, and seeing creators try to “both sides” a story *THEY* wrote rubs me the wrong way because it just makes me think they’re scared to make a statement about the validity of anti-establishment thought. ANYWAYS obviously in real life issues there is nuance required and I wouldn’t be so brazen with my conclusions here or there LOL but (as u can tell) this is something I think about pretty frequently. I so so so appreciated this, hopefully I didn’t talk ur ear (or eyes) off too much with my diatribes. have a good one!!!

@@Strokiemane oh my god it's so annoying to like older media and then go back and realize how problematic some of its aspects are 😭😭 i raised the destiny vs free will and fanaticism point mostly bc of how, in dune, it's questioned whether paul truly is the savior/messiah, or if centuries of political/religious machinations and his own ambitions for power are what put him in that position. the idea of the future being predetermined or shaped by our actions *should* be significant to the ateez lore bc of the prevalence of time travel and central symbolism of the cromer. this stuff always reminds me of invictus by william ernest henley, specifically the lines "i am the master of my fate, i am the captain of my soul" (in my brain i connect this entire poem to the movement album lyrically). specifically because of the lines in the spin-off prologue and lyrics in halazia, i think about fanaticism and the double-edged sword of unwavering faith (sidebar, but i think you're the only person in the fandom that i've seen still insist on the relevance of sciensalvar haha. to me they were, at least for now, a villain of the week/fever epilogue flavor text). we're on the same page with "the oppressed becoming the oppressor" being a tired trope, i hear you! thanks for being gracious in your interpretation of my intentions, as i meant for my ateez analysis to be more philosophical/conceptual than comparable to real world conflicts (generally, i am also wary of media that tries the both-sides thing, bc, like you said it's way too neutral and shuts down meaningful discussion). trust me, i'm a leftist/progressive, *technically* a dem (the party is going to shit, i am not looking forward to 2024 elections lol), and i think that the rhetoric of "the oppressed becoming the oppressor" is incredibly harmful bc it's used to justify continual marginalization and denial of equity/equal political power out of fear of retaliation for how the oppressed group has been treated (which historically doesn't really hold water). to your point about the last of us (i completely agree), i actually recently read a vice article about how the game was created as an allegory of the israel-palestine conflict, for which i think yikes is an understatement (not sure where you stand, and i don't want to start fights in your comment section, but all i'm going to say is that it's not a war/equal conflict). as a whole, i think it's a bad idea to consider fiction as a one-to-one allegory for real world conflicts and social issues, bc the commentary is inherently simplistic and falls apart, and also has potentially problematic implications (ex: religious factions in dune, lycanthropy=AIDS/being queer in harry potter, the list goes on). and don't even get me started on the both-sides argument, i really resent how it flies in the face of nuance and purports resistance to oppression being just as bad as oppression itself, bc like, idk, human nature somehow just needs to be excused as inherently evil?? (utter bullshit being peddled btw, bc that's an excuse to not think critically about power structures or have to actually put in the work for the liberation of all people) i thought the moral ambiguity of dune was relevant to the themes in ateez's work, especially in the concept of the outlaw album. ateez play with contradictions and dichotomies constantly, and the thin line that separates them (the two sides and single boundary of a mobius strip 😈). it also makes me think of the concept of doublethink in 1984, though i don't know how specifically connected that is. the central dramatic tension of choice (FREE WILL BABY), of the tug-of-war between good and evil, right and wrong, (pls go look up the tug-of-war concept pictures from say my name era, i still lose my shit when i think about it), is integral to understanding ateez's story imo. thx for being receptive to discussion!

I know right. Literally anything that predates the Me Too movement in American entertainment was just chock full of the most wanton bigotry u could find LOL (a disappointed lol) I fully agree with your assertion that this idea of predestination *should* play a role in the lore given the main time machinations of story. I actually think this potential “are we doing the right thing” concept is way more interesting than a “are we the bad guys now” type trope [which, reading ahead, seems like u would agree(at least in terms of the relative distaste for the latter trope LOL)]. I think there’s more reasonable grounds for questioning whether the theoretical liberation was truly “liberating” for the people, especially after seeing how the Boy’s Brother literally just tried to k*ll himself like 24 hours after he was released lol. (I would still side with the mission of the boys, just think it is worth more mental energy than potential different directions) As for this section, I’m honestly relieved/glad to see we see things similarly. Both in our distaste for lazy tropes and also some more serious stuff (I wont make/ask you elaborate on your feelings about the present, very clearly one sided, “conflict” in Gaza; especially as dissenting opinions are becoming dangerous for those who share them. But I think we are on the same page there.) and I fully agree with your point about the dangers of using stories as direct reflections of real life. Especially because, even if harmful tropes *are* avoided, I just think there are way too many people that simply do not think critically about the stuff they watch. *TANGENT INCOMING IM SORRY* like I watch The Sopranos (by far my all time favorite show) and cherish it as this character study of a horrifying man who attempts to find meaning for his pain and the pain he causes others, constantly seeing everytbing in his life erode around him DIRECTLY because of his own actions. But like over half the viewing population watched it, gets mad at how it ended, and their main opinion was “Tony is cool as fuck I hate Carmella.” like WHAT??? HOW DID WE WATCH THE SAME SHOW?? not that I am smarter for seeing stuff this way or the other, or than I’m even RIGHT in doing so. But like. People are not serious. Anyways, yea it’s a dangerous thing lol. Both sides bullshit makes me sick because it never comes with any critical thought. If people actually examine a situation and come to the conclusion that both sides of an issue are wrong (I think in American politics this is especially possible these days) I can accept that, but the way it’s portrayed in media is just some “don’t upset the status quo” bs. Genuinely agree with what you’re saying here. I see where you’re coming from with this, forsure. You can’t have a rebellion and an outward declaration of being Outlaws without an examination of your own morality. Also as a (likely irrelevant) note, when I read u say “thin line that separates” the first thing that came into my head was the line at the table that separated A like ateez and Halateez in the answer mv LOL. BUT HMMMM after seeing the tug of war concept photos maybe it’s not an insane thought? Then again the prevailing opinion about answer was that it as a final acceptance of Hala by ateez. Idk. It’s quite late and I can ramble so I’ll stop here lol. But seriously, thanks for engaging with me. Always so fun. Especially as we get into stuff a bit more serious than our boys doin time shenanigans 🖤
