Legit my first experience with this song was laying in bed at 2am, and looking out the window after a year long relationship ended. Wanted some nostalgia so I listened to the emo playlist on spotifiy, most of the songs made me smile and laugh when they came on but this one pulled me out of that. Made me feel like I need to live life, so the band name is on the nose. 10/10, great for MTV teen drama moments of staring at the moon while a single tear rolls down your cheek. Good memory.

This band is so fuckin great. The lyrics are amazing, along with the imperfect vocals, yet fantastic flow and sound. This band really is meaningful. This'll be the shit that 15 years from now I'll look back on and get nostalgic about thinking of how great this band made my life. True talent and beautiful sound.

You have a good concept, and I agree with you fully. This band will be one of the many that when I'm old, and thinking about my teenage years and my 20's, I'll think of this band, Clever Girl, Loose Lips Sink Ships, Pianos become the teeth, Have Mercy, Joie De Vivre, Merchant Ships, and some others. This band will stick with me for the rest of my days though, not a doubt in my mind.

Honestly, I never considered that so many people would hate the vocals? I love the singers vocal range and I personally think it works great for this song and music genre. I don't mean do police what people can't or can like - you're perfectly entitled to your own opinion and to voice it - but this 'perfectly imperfect' way of recording a song is kind of twiabp's brand and I hope you can appreciate them if you give this amazing band a chance!
@jackpitman158 жыл бұрын

Whenever you find home If everyone belongs there Feeling our bodies breaking down Just trying to find a way out To a city so big that it is bound To keep your secrets Pack your seats high Saying goodbye to your close friends Making some promises like “I’ll see you again” So when will I see you again? (new apartment complexes rising) I know a few chords that could make you miss me They ring and decay in this garage every few days Just trying to figure out this beat So if you want to come back east, (take down your pictures pack your belongings. Then maybe you can help me find it If your arms are just felt Then when you hold me I’ll feel held We’ll sink in these notes It never felt like this, it never felt like this Tell me we belong here If your arms become smoke Then I’ll have nothing left to hold We’ll dissipate with these notes It shouldn’t feel like this, it shouldn’t feel like this If everyone belongs here

My first experience with this song: A friend in the band sent me a copy before the album was released. I'd found the band on a sketchy download site and thought the band name was funny, so I downloaded Formlessness. I was floored, and became an instant mega-fan. Getting to make a friend in the band, and getting to hear the album early, and to hear how this song (and the whole album) completely blew away all their previous material...it was awe-inspiring... I'd been dumped recently, my parents were splitting, and I had barely graduated high school with no direction or aspirations, and their music was a huge source of comfort and inspiration. I'd had so many talented musician friends go forgotten or unheard, and this song and album legitimized what I knew this band could be: an essential in the genre with a distinct voice and sound. First time I heard this song I cried hard, and sometimes, I still do. This is one of my all time favorite songs and I dread the day I die and can't be on this planet anymore with art as good as this.

I broke down to this song after a emotionally abusive relationship, a year or two later I see her again walking down the street after 2 years without seeing her and I instantly broke down this song brings me into a state of wanting to live life more but at the same time fall back and breakdown so much raw emotions this song brings to the table

It's funny cause I was just thinking this morning about how I'm naturally drawn to singers with imperfect voices. I don't know why exactly but probably it sounds more sincere to me. Also maybe because my voice is horrible and yet I like singing and I can understand the desire to have something to say yet everyone thinks you should just shut up. Anyway I noticed I love Bright Eyes, Ani Difranco, Neutral Milk Hotel, Kind of Like Spitting, etc. I've never heard of The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die, but I will definitely check them out! If you have any other suggestions of similar bands, please reply in the comments. I'm open to suggestions! :)

a lot of emo and post rock won't have perfect vocals nor will some strive for a "perfect clean" sounding song. It exposes the rawness of the music and tends to emphasise lyrics about hardship and maybe struggle. TWIABP have a cool style

Emo does indeed distinguish itself with hoarse vocals, but it also has to do alot with the melodic way of playing the instruments; a kind approach where you loosen the boundaries that you have in hardcore. It really is just the sound that Rites of Spring started with, that has lived on over the years.
