It’s *debated* if she said it, it could’ve been someone else in the Royal family/of the upper class. But it’s likely the *actions* of the royal family/upper class that the phrase was based upon. “Let them eat cake” refers to the ignorance of the upper class, it’s thought to be from the French Revolution because of the riches ignorance that the normal person couldn’t afford bread (which is notoriously meant to be cheap in France). And who said it isn’t the point of this video, it’s to shine light on how *ignorant* the upper class is.

Exactly, it has been like that for years. Even in the 1800s rich people would dress up and go to parties while the poor would die out of hunger everyday. It's mind-blowing that people only understand now that the hunger games was actually based on our world. Which was always the way it is now. And if you remember both the capitol and the district's people thought it was normal just like how we think it is. Tbh it's not even these celebrities fault they are clueless like the capitol people, this is what they have always known. The actual villains are always the ones pulling the strings which in this case is the government. I want them to actually make one of these on the government then I might think they are sincere and are capable of thinking.
@sujinmcho5 күн бұрын
For those who don't know, Marie Antoinette was quoted saying something that roughly translates to "let them eat cake" when told that most normal people could not afford to buy bread to eat (in france, bread is a staple that is supposed to be cheap/affordable).
@Vajj8164 күн бұрын
She didn’t say cake. She said a type of bread in French that is a little bit more expensive then normal bread, because growing up rich that’s all the kind of bread she had/or knew. Since there is no word for the type of bread she said in English , the translation is cake.
@sujinmcho4 күн бұрын
@Vajj816 yes, it would be more accurate to say something like a sweet bread, but the famous quote is cake, which does pain Antoinette as more out of touch and cruel when according to other records she was kind-natured. The important thing for the revolutionary movement was to have the working class believe that the aristocracy was completely out of touch and their insatiable greed was the reason for the economic crisis. Sounds similar to what's happening in the world now, imo.

For anyone wondering, "Let them eat cake" is a phrase said by a rich royalty in France if I'm correct, many years ago. The people were begging for food. The queen had cake left from a party. She said "Let them eat cake." The starved people with not enough resources to live and feed their families, had been served cake, and cake only. That's also where "Eat the rich" comes from. People were protesting, saying the cake is not enough, we should eat the rich and that would solve all the problems they had. Idk who and where the video is from of the person in this video. But I think it's used here to contrast the poverty on our planet

I don’t think most people understand. Yes, there are many people who have no food, water, or even homes for that matter. However there is no reason to hate on the celebrities who work tirelessly to get to where they are now. A lot of celebrities even donate money to charities. Some people who are billionaires work and get an education to find a good paying job. They work hard to provide good lives for themselves and their families. There is no reason to hate on these people. My dad for example grew up poor and with little food. He worked hard in school, graduated, and found a good job which he excels in to provide a good life for our family. People say “it’s not fair that these celebrities get paid this much money for one movie” when that’s their job. There are many jobs that don’t get paid very much but that’s just the reality of life. Not everything is fair in life. I’m sick and tired of seeing these videos when these celebrities work hard to get where they are. Not all celebrities do but the majority do. Let’s be honest, if any of you people complaining in the comments were in their position you would go spend a few grand of a outfit to go to these events too.

Can somebody explain how blocking celebrities is supposed to stop wars? And why it’s also Hunger Games themed? Also, isn’t playing “The Hanging Tree” supporting celebrities? Yet another also, why are we targeting celebrities at all, when all the power is in the hands of politicians?

Can we just talk about the attention to detail? This content creator is clearly a fan of the fandom - using the 77th Hunger Games. Most people think it stopped at the 75th Hunger Games (the Quarter Quell), but they actually debate and approve another Hunger Games with the children of influential Capitol figures AKA the 76th Hunger Games. It’s the little things 😊❤

This is a piece of very obscure history, I see it more as a fun story, that I happened to read a long time ago. Marie Antoinette never said "let them eat cake" publicly, they took it out of context from a private conversation that was spread with gossip. In the actual context she was having a rather heated conversation with her husband, at some point they we're discussing the struggles of the lower class, to which Marie said angrily that after every fancy party they have, there is plenty of cake left over, why can't they just eat the cake, literally pointing out why do we consume more than we need when our people are starving. It was a metaphor, apparently a few lady servant happened to be within earshot, either with things to clean or on purpose, but they took the phrase and spread it, even if with context, if it met the ears of someone who meant to harm the royal family, they would just use it how they please. I'm well aware of the book created before she was even old enough to be queen, this is mere coincidence, they literally had sweets and cake left from parties and she didn't understand why she can't just give what excess she has to the poor. To which her husband said there's no diplomatic way to put a limit, the people will keep taking from her until she is in rags too, and ended the argument with, is that what you want for your children, to go hungry in their stead. She was resentful of the outcome but admitted defeat. This was from book in a library saying they studied personal journals of those who lived at the palace, of what they could find left from that time, they used more to fact check each other. You can take it as a mere possibility, or not believe it at all, either way, don't try to debate it with me, I'm old, I shared a story, i don't have time to go back and forth on something I can't prove myself. It was just something I read. I don't even know if I believe it, I just found it an interesting story. So no my horse is bigger than your horse comments, please. Enjoy your day!

This is probably the 20th video of this kind is saw recently. Ppl who really believe that these famous ppl could change the worlds problems are crazy and didnt understand anything. Even though this met Gala is ridiculous to me, its not their job to heal the world. There will never be a world without struggles unfortunately. But blaming some irrelevant celebs or some CEOs is def not the solution. In fact we can be really thankful to many CEOs, which companies lead to prosperity. It is not about who has more or how big the differences are, but more about that the ones who have less are able to do better. And war always leads to poverty and pain.

Marie Antoinette allegedly said this when the French public couldn’t even afford bread so she said if they can’t afford bread let them eat cake. It represents how out of touch she is to not know that cake is more expensive than bread. You can google her end KZbin will not let me say it here.
