At the time of Sirisha Bandla’s talk, only 598 people had been to space - one of whom was Sirisha. Sharing the awe-inspiring story of her sub-orbital flight to space, Sirisha explains how going to space improves life on earth, and why we need more people to share this life-changing experience.
Sirisha Bandla believes in making space more accessible to all through Space Tourism. For the past five years, she has served as VP of Government Affairs for Virgin Galactic, supporting both LauncherOne and SpaceShipTwo programs. Leading Virgin Galactic’s efforts on policy, regulation, and business development for scientific payloads, Sirisha also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Astronautical Society, Future Space Leaders Foundation, and American Society for Gravitational and Space Research. She also helps to coordinate the Matthew Isakowitz Fellowship Program, mentoring students interested in pursuing a career in the commercial space industry. Previously, Sirisha served as Associate Director for the Commercial Spaceflight Federation (CSF), where she promoted the commercial space industry to make commercial spaceflight a reality. Prior to CSF, she worked as an aerospace engineer, designing components for advanced aircraft. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

What the world really needs to do is ask its most vulnerable and disenfranchised, not the cushy and well-off, what the world needs most. We can't get to lofty dreams of humanity before we examine how our species uses violence on the daily against its vulnerable members (children, the disabled, the poor, veterans, elderly, women, etc). There is no way we can evolve while denying our violence and abuse.

Idk where people get this idea that we can't go to space as a violent species. If there's any intelligent alien lifeforms that have developed faster than light travel I guarantee their past would be full of violence, in fact I'm sure it's still a problem some of them face. Violent people will always exist. We can decrease the number of crime and violence but it will always be there. Stopping space travel to fix it would be useless

@@Dimitris_Balf We are living in an enclosed TORROIDAL realm...the highest anyone or any rocket can go, is into low earth orbit. Rockets hit the firmament ALL THE TIME _ you can see the WAVES (much like a boat makes wakes as it disturbs the waters surface, that result due to hitting the sky ice directly or skipping along the firmament inner surface, & the waters above the firmament. Just like it says in the Bible. Rec researching the Bible & a QAdmiral Byrd's to expeditions to "Antarctica" & the detailed discoveries they made.

She had me confused while defining the “Overview Effect” without mentioning the name. And then she confused me more by narrowing the scope of the title to basically “we need more minorities or women as astronauts.” She also failed to mention the MOL-17 Astronauts. A very biased “TED Talk.”
@trevorsullivan594
@trevorsullivan594 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. We've barely made a presence in space and were already talking about biases here. She even admits that her "in" was via someone who looked like her. Im not opposed to equal opportunities but this was a little too woke for me.
