The World of David the Gnome - Episode 15 - Three Wishes (Restored)

A poor woodsman saves Lisa after she is attacked by his cat. To express his generosity, David grants the woodsman three wishes, which do not go as planned. When David grants the woodsman's wish to become a rich man, the woodsman takes a bar of gold into the city and attempts to sell it to a store owner. The woodsman is accused of thievery and thrown in prison. David helps him to become free and the woodsman learns to use his wishes wisely.

Also, shouldn't the wood cutter have gotten better treatment from the cops then he did? After all, there wasn't any actual proof that he stole it therefore how can he wind up in jail?

True, but the only people the woodcutter knew was his wife since he had no neighbors. He lived a poor lifestyle, wanting money isn't a bad thing since it's the only way to make sure you won't suffer in life.

I wanted to find a Gnome so bad when i was a little kid, i would look in the backyard for what seemed like hours. id only find bugs and lizards. I wanted to live in that little house in the tree with them.

I still remember what my wishes were from when I was little! My first wish would be to talk to animals and understand them! Second wish, being friends with gnomes, definitely! Third... hmm... health, happiness and peace for all people and creatures of the world.

this is the worst episode. The woodcutter saves Lisas life and David Thanks him by giving him something he knows will cause nothing but trouble. my kids love this show and I don't let them watch this one because of this.

+Ste Net I am more kind of questioning the animation quality in this. I was never fond of this show and I only seen this dub of it. It never aired in my country. Some of it seems of model, such as Swift looking kind of off model and wonky and the old jeweller with his head bouncing up and down. I dunno. Those are my nit picks here. Also with the bottomless swamp scene. It made no sense.

David practically hustled him. Before the two other wishes were made, he already intended on the woodcutter losing the gold bar. There is no real lesson here. Any person who has lived a poor lifestyle would want to wish for money, it's obvious, not because we humans are greedy, but because he don't want to suffer. Even a good hearted person would possibly wish for money if they grew up poor.

If wealth is neither absolutely good or absolutely bad thing, it's the same thing with poverty. What the woodcutter needed to learn not to use wishes for for his own self-benefit and see the positive side of his life before he wished for that gold bar: he was a kind and helping person who wasn't treated like a criminal back then and had at least a wife and home. The best possible wish would actually be: "I wish all of us people could live our lives happily together." Why? Because if there would be things would make all of us happy even without any money, none can ever be truly poor.

David did try to warn him that gold won’t bring happiness. David wanted the woodsman to be thankful for the things he has, he may think he has it tough but there are people who have it worse.

I don't like this episode. I think David is very ungrateful in this episode, and I feel sorry for the woodcutter. Yeah, this episode is the one I skip.

I can see why this one is unpopular. -The Woodcutter was the one who caused Lisa to be put in danger; he didn't "save her life", he was fixing his the situation he himself caused by letting his cat roam wild. -David seems to really have screwed this guy over. Why give someone something you know will do them harm? -The Woodcutter is poor, his wife is therefore also poor. If he has kids, they'll grow up poor. Wishing for wealth was a wish for all the people who were close to him, so the "wish for everyone" moral pandering rings hollow. -HOW DID THE WOODSMAN GET STUCK IN "QUICKSAND"!? Has he never gone to town before? It just seemed like a forced way for him to lose a wish. -Finally, the Woodcutter and his wife seemed like good people, and yet this episode showed them in nothing but misery. Why not end it with him getting back to his wife, and saying they don't need wealth as long as they have each other (or something equally sappy)? At least that would be better than ending with the Woodcutter being robbed of his gold (by David), after being falsely imprisoned. Where's the happy end? Instead we get David gloating over how cool and right he is, and how stinky and dumb the poor woodsman is. Usually the goofy/silly writing is funny, but in this one, it just seems kind of mean.

downsouth420 explain people like Al Capone then? Before his notoriety and brutality, he was dirt poor. True he broke the law to make his money but was never that destitute again in his lifetime, even after prison and repeal of prohibition.

It's slave morality. The fact David tells his friend he'll get the money back tells me something much more - tautology intended - about this myth. Think about it: Who lends the gold and then there is the jeweler... think about that.
