got one in 1985, a 550, still riding it 54 years old.

Proud to be a "jet pilot" since 1986, and still going! That's REAL jet skiing, riding a stand up ski. My first jet ski was a 550 in 1986, then a 750 in 1998, and in 2008 I bought a Yamaha Super Jet. Kawasaki jet skis were good, but had structural problems with nose cones and handle poles breaking. The Super Jet is built like an M-1 tank, I still ride just as aggressive as I always have, and haven't managed to break anything on the super jet except motor mounts.

I was on a boomer when these came out. When we got our advance pay, one roomy bought a 78 Yamaha XS1100 Midnight special, the other roomy bought a Suzuki Wetbike, and I bought a racing Kart.

I remember getting a ride on one as a child in the late 70s on the Parker strip / Colorado River. Mike Murphys ski shop, Sundance, those were good times

As much as i loved my JS550, then eventually a super clean 550sx with some modes which i rode for years, was a huge improvement. the rear exhaust and the reed-valve intake setup plus the more conventional but the time kinda a pita for parts for jet pump and D/S setup. My friend had his js550 and another a 650sx. I liked the 650sx a lot also, not as much as the 550's but i wanted that power lol. Anyway i eventually got a 1990 Yamaha Superjet 650 but with a pipe, aftermarket head, and the usual handling mods like intake grate/ride plate, etc.. I loved that ski and never looked back at the Kawasakis until i saw the 750SXi and eventually the SXR800 which are nice and seem to be a different style standup vs the superjet which i actually really like and would love to try one. Id really love to try the new 4-stroke Stand-ups. The superjet isnt crazy heavy if you think about what a SN weighs or something, the SXR1500 is heavier though and has a much bigger 1.5L 4cyl vs the Superjets TR-1 1.0L 3Cyl. Theyll have the reliability sure but if you plan to jump it hard id make sure that thing has hood straps and an auto bilge pump lol. Last thing you want to do is sink a 4stroke, way more involved than a 2stroke.. One thing ive heard is that the new Kawasaki SXR1500 can absolutely rip thru choppy water and carve pretty fast and id love to have my RN Superjet and a Kawi SXR1500 to go with it for when i want to cruise around because im near the ocean here so its never really calm except the sunrise hours.. I have a sitdown jet ski already, im talking stictly standups because they just so much fun. But i would LOVE a new Yamaha JETBLASTER with the 1.8L HO motor in it as the top model, now that would be awesome.. 550lbs with the 110hp 3cyl. But if it was say close to the same weight but with 180Hp, that would be a seriously fun ski and be super fun to toss around, either that or super-charging the TR1 somehow lol.. I heard the new Jetblaster is basically just a fancy Yamaha EX-R? I thought the EXR were a 3 seater model with no trim or anything?

The most fun I’ve had on a wave runner is on a sit down Yamaha 2stroke going on my own. Passengers suck! I am yet to try 4 stroke
