The attention to details, and the perfection of the settings in this series is amazing. As an Italian, i was stunned by the fact that there where no errors, nothing was out of (chronological) space, even in the broader framings, where maybe some more modern elements of the landscape could slip through.

Such a great series. Loved the MontBlanc 149 cameo and the incorporation of all the classic style. You can’t watch this show and not want to immediately get on a plane to visit Italy, or whip out a fountain pen and write a letter.

If the Best Cinematography category comes up at the Emmys, I hope they give it to Ripley and her great work by Robert Elswit (There will be blood) Probably the series with the best cinematography so far in 2024

The atmosphere conveyed by this series was so immersive. I'm in my sixties and it really captured the world of my childhood for me. Excellent acting from everyone as well. I do hope they dramatise all the Ripley stories. Highsmith is such a wonderful and disturbing author.

I was surprised they shot it in color because they weren't sure the black and white would be accepted. It would be worse in color, IMO.

The Netflix series is so different to the book ( despite many details from the book being present only in the series) and the two better films that I even think it's some sort of plagiarism to call this series “Ripley". The four main actors are so miscast! Especially, of course, the actors playing Tom Ripley and Freddie Miles. Another striking difference is the sensuality present in the book and even more in the two films but absent in the antiseptic Netflix series where Dickie and Marge act like brother and sister. Scott's Tom looks miserable or too serious all the time. What rich, spoiled, fun loving Dickie Greenleaf would like to have someone like him around? The best way to see the nonsense of Scott's performance is to watch Alain Delon as Tom in "Plein Soleil". This is from a recorded conversation with Patricia HIghsmith in the British Library. The interviewer asks if "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was originally supposed to be a one off film. She says " yes". Then the interviewer asks why she changed her mind and wrote sequels. These are Patricia Highsmith's very words: "Maybe, in a curious way, The French film affected me in a positive way because Alain Delon did such a good job … the right age ….One hundred percent correct "

beautiful photography but all the story tell is bidimensional.. too much the same expression .. there is more to it in the original movie with mat damon.. here is just a Iago all the time .. with little changes... is compelling because it always takes you on the brink of when they will discvor him.. but thera many nonsensical situations.. to force that.. and if realism is your goal .. than don't fake the story.. to me is a bad production..
