Just binged the whole thing (Ripley). It is stunning, every shot looks like a painting. Andrew can convey so much without saying anything. You switch between being terrified of Ripley and rooting for him. He’s been my favourite actor since I saw him in Sherlock. Wish I lived in the UK so I could see him in plays. I’ve only seen his Hamlet because they filmed it and put it online. Hope to be able to watch Vanya too.

About the whole speaking Italian with slightly different tones to it: I honestly do think people notice, but not like "Oh look what he did there!" The audience will FEEL the effort and quality in some way. It gives the acting more depth, even if the audience can't put the finger on why exactly it feels so well done.

When I binge-watched Ripley, I didn’t realize it’s a re-interpretation of “The Talented Mr Ripley.” I barely remember that movie. It’s so cool that they took the same basic plot and made it so different. I also didn’t realize Andrew Scott wasn’t American. I also didn’t realize that was Dakota Fanning. Andrew Scott really nails the American accent. You can also hear his character’s learning arc, as he becomes fluent in Italian. The British and Irish actors I’ve seen on Netflix are so great at acting as well as accents. Now I want to see all his other performances. He seems like a genuinely nice person as well as an amazing talent
