The last time I had french toast was 30 years ago when my Momma made it to perfection. As someone who is figuring out cooking, thank you for providing this content. It dispels recipes from being an intuitive home cook.

I use a Tupperware that fits at least two pieces of bread at a time I put my cinnamon on the griddle rather than in the mix. Best French Toast. Flavored Brioche. You can pick them up at walmart and specialty stores. Apple Cinnamon Brioche is extra yum and Pumpkin around now. Soggy center can also be cause by soaking the bread too long. A little less milk too.
@tallygirl2streasures7172 жыл бұрын
I make it about the same without adding sugar to the mix. I don't measure anything, but that looks like too much milk. However you must try the Brioche bread at the Publix bakery. It is a showstopper for french toast! Then I also do fresh strawberries (when in season) and sliced bananas. We eat it for dinner with some bacon on the side. Seriously one of my family's favorites. You also can get their french or italian bread...or the sourdough loaves you can buy at Cracker Barrel make great french toast too. Regular sandwich bread is not good.

If you want more even cinnamon distribution, maybe fill an old salt shaker with cinnamon and sprinkle it on the griddle before putting down the freshly battered bread, then sprinkle on the wet side of each slice before you flip it over? Just a thought.

French toast used to be a way to use up stale bread - kinda like dressing does. If bread doesn't get a chance to get stale at your house use a "dry" bread. - ( has a less refined texture) - like brioche or French or italian. Hamburger and hotdog buns work good too.- the cheaper ones preferably. Too much milk! Only need a splash - I actually use club or seltzer type water because I don't drink milk.(do the same in scrambled eggs). If I'm using thick bread- after browning in the pan or on griddle - I put the slices on a non stick cookie sheet or parchment papered one and pop them into a 300 degree oven for 10 - 15 minutes. It sets the middle without over cooking the outside. And if cooking for a crowd kinda let's you feed everyone at once. The pie plate is OK if that's all you have - but you arr right - a wide bottom bowl or a casserole dish with higher sides makes more sense so you can whisk that cinnamon in with gusto! And not egg the kitchen or the dog. Enjoyed the show even if it did go smoothly!🤣

The best French toast (imo) is crispy on the outside but custardy on the inside. Overcooked French toast…I’m not a fan. But it’s totally a matter of preference!

I think that was way too much milk. I like lots more egg than milk in my mixture. Think I'll make some now. Yum.

1) use italian pre sliced sandwich bread 2) double the eggs 3) bake in oven at 300°f for 10-15, if centers are too mushy 4) butter isn't unhealthy 👌

I think the key is to have older bread. I remember my mom making French toast when the bread was almost stale.
@NancyW822 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason it stayed so soggy is because you used good soft sandwich bread. If you're like me and hate soggy french toast you need to use either stall bread, thick bread or hearty crusty bread.

I learned how to make French toast as a kid from a cookbook for kids by Betty Crocker. 1/4 milk per egg. Inside should be custardy, not soggy.

that egg to milk ratio looked off. every thing about this recipe is the same except that ratio and the salt is the same as what I do. I make FT every Christmas morning and often through out the year. my family loves it when I do. the key to the cinnamon is that I have a pampered chef shaker for sugar and cinnamon. it was soggy because there was too much milk to egg. when I make it I use a dozen eggs to about 1/2 cup milk.

The extra butter, though delicious, could cause it to be a little soggy. Cooking a little longer looked like a good idea to me.

Try cracking your egg on the counter instead of a bowl edge. You’ll find that you’ll have less egg fragments
@NancyW822 жыл бұрын
That looks yummy! I love french toast, my family on the other hand are pancake people. What grosses me out is soggy in the middle toast. You have to have none soggy toast with lots of powdered sugar and a little bit of syrup. (Oh stop cracking your eggs on the side of the bowls and it will help keep from getting shells in the bowls. If you crack them on a flat surface it helps keep from pushing shells into the egg itself) Going to get eggs is fun, especially when the rooster is out and he is a dick! When I was a kid, my Aunt Brenda always had roosters that were little dicks! She'd send us out before the sun came out and he'd chase us around the yard while we screamed and woke the neighbors (she lived in the middle of nowhere but I'm sure the neighbors loved when we went home every summer).

Dave, I watch all of your channels. Im pretty sure i would enjoy a video of you reading the phonebook, but i couldn't watch this video because of the background music. It felt like one of those videos that ends with 5 generations of a family eating the meal at sunset, in a vineyard. You don't need background music, we're here for your charm. I feel bad leaving this constructive criticism, cuz you're the best!!

That's such a "normal" recipe for French toast. I don't see anything special or "world's best" about it. If you want a REAL "world's best" French toast...you need my recipe for Orange Almond French Toast. It's something that gets made twice a year in my house...for Mother's Day and Christmas Brunch. It's baked in the oven so you can make a large quantity all at once to feed the "troops" in your family. It's spectacular! (And...it's not soggy!)
