I've never been to the original KFC location, but I am thankful that I did have an opportunity, when I was a teenager, to meet Colonel Sanders himself. He was a guest on a TV game show at NBC in Burbank. I waited outside the studio next to his limo after the show. When he came out he gave me a warm handshake, a big smile and an autographed photo. RIP, Colonel Sanders, and thank you for that memorable moment.

The museum in Corbin, KY, is now open. Stop by the next time you're driving through. JRN even purchased Sanders old house by the restaurant and restored it. Sadly the Sanders Court motel across from the restaurant was torn down long ago.

To clarify things a bit, the original place in Kentucky where Colonel Sanders sold his chicken was called the Sanders Court & Cafe. It was not until this Utah location began selling the Colonel's recipe that the term "Kentucky Fried Chicken" was used (the guy that was helping design the signage for the place came up with the name). So, this is the first place to ever use the Kentucky Fried Chicken name, even if it was not the first place to sell the chicken.

SLC has no culture that isn't bland and lame. I love the outdoors, but the people... dreadfully unfunny, boring and not particularly interesting. It is like being in a city filled with 99% NPCs. It is kind of pathetic. I was taken to a place that had "great Italian food" and it was awful. Then I was taken to a place with great Mexican food...again, AWFUL. I realized the pattern right away. I lasted one day working at KFC when I was a teenager and it was my shortest tenure anywhere. The line was long and the customers were so serious about their chicken and it was a lot of pressure. I looked it up and the Salt Lake restaurant was franchised in 1952 and the one in my town was Harden's Kentucky Fried Chicken and it was franchised in 1958. The Colonel visited existing established restaurants and sold his franchises. The Colonel was a success because he wasn't a quitter, unlike myself, because I don't have any qualms about quitting. We always called it a bucket of chicken and I miss the way it used to taste.

Lived on an island in Micronesia 30 years ago. Couldn't believe a Kentucky Fried Chicken was there, being the only franchise fast food restaurant on island. Served fried rice, no mashed potatoes or coke slaw on menu. But seeing Col. Sanders' image so far from home was comforting. Like seeing a favorite relative. Very grateful Col. Sanders opened franchises in so many distant corners of the world for homesick Americans to enjoy.

The History Channel did at least two programs about Harlon Sanders and Kentucky Fried Chicken. He originally had a gas station that sold fried chicken. He had a regular restaurant that specialized in his chicken, but, when the freeways came in he went out of business. Then he went to restaurant after restaurant, city to city selling his recipe to others. He never opened a franchise. Someone bought him out and started franchising. They hired him as a spokesman for the company. Only one franchise was making a profit and the guy who owned it designed the building style and the bucket. They brought him on at corporate and the franchise took off. His name was Dave Thomas who eventually founded "Wendy's".

Your dad is funny. We were in IL and drove by LeRoy and it brought to mind the story your dad told about how to pronounce it, and asking the waitress. It was so hilarious! Made me laugh!

Col. Sander's came here almost every summer to participate in the Day's of '47 Parade in July. He was most likely in a Converible. It was fun to see him! He was popular!!!

Harman KFC chicken and Harmons Grocery in Salt Lake were a split of business ventures of this family, and I happen to work in IT for the grocery business...Also, toward the last piece of the video you can see "Apollo Burger" across the street which is essentially the same chain as Crown burger where you ate after the tour of SLC with your parents.

WHY did COLONEL SANDERS wear a white suit? He switched out his black suit for a white one -- to better hide the flour he was constantly splattered with. The white suit eventually became his signature uniform.

I hope you get to see the sandlot filming location and the dumb and dumber locations. It's legendary when you see them. Thanks for the great content. Good times!
