NOTE: I recently heard the tree house caught fire and burned to the ground. I am thankful for the opportunity to have capture this awesome structure.
Buried in the hills of Tennessee is a small town called Crossville and in this small town sits the world's largest tree house also known as the minister's tree house. The tree house has been featured on many outdoor programs and is no longer open to the public. Since the land is for sale (as of filming), decided to grab my camera and take a trip!:)
I filmed all video with a DJI Osmo using the built-in microphone. In addition, all photos were capture with my trusty Nikon D3400 using the 18-55mm kit lens shooting in RAW with aperture priority. It was a great trip, and I met some great people along the way.

I saw the notification when it first came up, but wanted to wait to watch it, and boy am I happy I did that. You turned a terrible day/evening into something more pleasant - Great distraction. Sure, the video quality could be better but imho it'll suffice - Especially when you're on the go like this - The audio is 'amazing'! And awesome pictures, and it's nice to see you're using the D3400 for your videos - AND I love that you *always* display the picture info! Ehm, but I have a question - What is 'crop factor' 😋 To lazy to google, and your one hell of a teacher, so yeah.. 'ef google haha
@RealWorld
@RealWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the post and glad to some good/needed distraction:). This video was fun to make/share ... a bit different from some of my how-to vids:). Nonetheless, the crop factor is a number multiplied by the focal length based on sensor size used to identify the 35mm equivalent. The term 'full sensor' is the equivalent of a 35mm camera and no crop factor is needed. If you use a full sensor camera and take a shot at 50mm, you truly taking a shot at 50mm. If you use a crop sensor camera like the Nikon D3000, 5000, 7000, etc., you need to multiply the focal length by 1.5 to get the full sensor equivalent ... for example, if you take a shot with the D3500 at 50mm, the full sensor equivalent is 75mm. Canon has a crop factor of 1.6:).

@@RealWorld Didn't even read the rest of your reply, when my eyes wandered and saw, i.e, 1.6 for Canon 🤦‍♂️ I feel dumb, but thats needed some days haha 😁 thanks for the patience, and the explanation - Now to read it :D And yeah, all the info you give is super awesome (in the video, of the pictures) and with your helpful comments ❤

Hi Mark, very entertaining video, thank you for sharing. You must be on vacation/visiting because it doesn't look like the Brickyard is anywhere near that tree house (LOL). I’m curious about what editing software you use to get the “selective color” on some of the photos (they look very nice BTW). And if you’re ever in south Florida, look me up (no tree houses, but plenty of alligators) LOL
@RealWorld
@RealWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the post/feedback Enrique!:) Yes, no brickyard in TN:). I used Lightroom to isolate colors (work great). I created a video which might be of help as well - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpaQmZmFnNSAh68 ... as the temp drops, I might take a trip to the south so stay tuned!:)

Really SUPERB post , Sir . Loved & envied every second of it :) Please allow me to submit three queries . (1) The image at 1:50 mark -- did you use some sort of IR filter ? Or , in-camera selective colour ? Or , post processing in LightRoom ? (2) Getting a very nice deal from one USA camera super-store I am . 67mm CPL at or below 14 USD including shipping from USA to India -- AGFA , Polaroid , Tronixpro , Insignia . Which one would you suggest ? Other brands are beyond my budget . (3) Would 680 nm IR filter be good enough for dramatic effects to begin with ? What NM rating would be your advice -- for a beginner with a very tight budget ? Hope I am not being very burdensome :) Thanks & Best Regards .

Thanks for the post/feedback and NP re questions:). Regarding #1 - I isolated colors using Lightroom:). I have a video which might be of help - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpaQmZmFnNSAh68 Regarding #2 - sounds like a good deal. I might lean towards Polaroid. They have been in the game a long time and typically produce decent products:). Regarding #3 - you might consider a variety pack like the Neewer ( amzn.to/2Nk2FWt ). Hoya and Zomei make some good filters as well:).

Awesome video, I was just thinking, seeing this is in Tennessee and it's well known for Copperhead snakes, I'm kinda wondering if around this area was the inspiration behind Steve Earl's song "Copperhead Road" back in the 70's after the returning soldiers came back from Vietnam and there was a lot of moonshine distilling going on. Was this tree house in Johnson County?
@RealWorld
@RealWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the post/feedback David!:) I am familiar with the song as well and good point/question ... while song refers to Johnson county which is located in the northeastern part of TN, Crossville is located in Cumberland county which located further west of Johnson county. Nonetheless, they are relatively close and I would not be surprised to see moonshine in either county:).

This belongs to a member of my brother’s family. The problem with not getting permission is that there is liability for him. With a little research he would have shared with you. Love your videos, but trespassing, is just that.

Thanks for the post/feedback Joan and sorry to hear about the fire. I was blessed to see it which was awesome and understood various city officials challenged the owner over the years. I took interest in the property and spoke with the relator (not certain if it still for sale though) ... a nice piece of land IMO.
