I'm Australian, and as a kid I was *obsessed* with finding some of Australia's rarest parrots. The Night Parrot was one of them, but I was truly devoted to finding a Paradise Parrot, which has not been seen in nearly a hundred years now, and is presumed extinct. When I was about 7, I convinced myself that I had in fact seen one. In retrospect, it was definitely wishful thinking, but it made me happy. I also had a T-shirt with a Paradise Parrot on it, hand painted by a neighbour, a professional artist. It was one of my most treasured possessions. And actually, over 30 years later my sister still has that T-shirt. Sorry, not entirely relevant, but pleasant memories for me :)

What a wonderful dream you have mate, I only wish to see one too. I still have hope that they are still alive, as I am near Darling Downs, but no sightings yet. Still looking out for them till the day I die!

The main thing I took away from this video besides the rarity of the Night Parrot, is the term "bird nerd". That was pretty funny to me for some reason. As always, thanks for the video Simon and the *TIFO* crew. It's much appreciated.

Gosh, I wonder how closely it is related to the Kakapo. A quite a lot larger flightless bird on New Sealand but with almost exactly the same feather patterns.
@Fitzroyfallz6 жыл бұрын
RvdKlein they're not related at all, actually! They both evolved to hold the same niche independently. A bit like echidnas and hedgehogs.
@RvdKlein6 жыл бұрын
That is remarkable! Thank you. Since Kakapo obviously evolved not to fly which resulted into them growing larger... a smaller and flying kakapo looks an awful lot like this little creature :) Again, thanks for clearing that up.

Simon one bird you never mentioned that became extinct was the Ouselam bird.It was very common once,the reason for its demise was the fact that it flew around in ever decreasing circles thus disappearing up its own backside,hence extinction,thought it was worth a mention,love your vids,have a nice day Simon.

Simon, episode idea: As we know, the default position of our eyes is open. And our eyes roll back while we sleep when their natural position is forward. Yet we spend a lot of time forcing them closed and rolling them back but somehow find it relaxing? How come our eyes/eyelids don't get tired? Or get cramps? Given all this, how come when we dream we can sleep with our eyes open and moving?
