Some students are students only because their parents *force* them to take music lessons, not because they themselves have any interest in music. You can't guide anyone who doesn't want to be guided down that particular path. If they don't want to learn, they're not going to. Sometimes the student - and not the teacher - really is at fault for the student's lack of progress.

I strung about 14 unrelated chords together and wrote a song cause, you know, I don't NEED music theory and stuff. I can just tell what sounds really great. I played (and sang!) it to my friends, and they all acted really uncomfortable and said things like, "Hmm" and "Okay" but nobody said they thought it was really amazing and that I really should send it to Phil Collins or George Benson or anything. I don't understand non musicians.

When I taught, I would become so frustrated with youngsters who would just go off into their own space. Playing sloppy and choppy nonsense, loudly, over the top of everything else. Including me. They just didn't take it seriously, for the most part. I tried to be laid-back. Cool and easy going. But undisciplined students just really drove me away from teaching the guitar to younger people. I'd rather teach someone who is mature and serious about being a musician. There. Thats my 2 cents on that subject. God bless.🙏😊👍

I'm probably already as good as you, I just need someone to teach me songs." Fair enough. 8 year old girl queries: " If you're so good at guitar then why aren't you famous..?" Good point(?) 12 year old. First lesson. "I wanna learn 'Sweet Child O mine" "Great! Lets start with a D chord!" Says I "No no no. Just the solo. My dad's rich he said he'd give me 500 dollars if I learned the solo." I literally have hundreds of these stories...

hey sean I was laying in bed thinking about extended chords (because who doesn't do that?) and thought why don't we call major 9 chords major 2 chords. and why don't we call 11th chords major 4 chords, and 13th chords 6th chords. for example the c major scales 9th note is the a D which is the second note. and the 11th note is an F which is the fourth note. and the 13th note is an A. if any of that made sense.
