I spent 2 1/2 years in Zweibrueken Germany in the US Army in the early 1960's. The Soviets started building the Berlin wall on my birthday. I worked with German civilians in an accounting office. I made many German friends, enjoyed the German cuisine and culture. Christmas was a special time.

You can be happy wherever you are. It is a mindset thing. Only if your life is constantly threatened by something, like for example it is for the people of Ukraine right now, I think then it becomes quite hard to stay positive. And I wish them that they can win their country back soon, so that they soon can live happily again.

But it can also have to do with things in the brain chemistry. Certain things can influence the brain, so that it becomes impossible to think positively. This can end up in a medical condition called "Depression". Even certain foods can affect the brain chemistry negatively.
