It is a little sad that we no longer have the excitement or enthusiasm about space travel. When was the last ticker tape parade for astronauts returning from the space station. Awesome documentary!

Now that space events are pretty common, it's not such a novelty anymore. So that sense of wonder has logically faded.

Yes I know. It was such an exciting time to grow up in the 60’s. This was pretty exciting. Maybe the next big celebration will be for the next astronauts returning safely from mars. Sadly I likely won’t be around for that celebration….

The opening card states that this film is owned by PeriscopeFilm, but it's clearly a NASA-produced documentary. I would be surprised if NASA sold the rights, but would love to know! I suppose a more literal reading of the card could imply that the exact film reel used to digitize the film is owned by Periscope film and not its contents, but that would be misleading, at best.

For decades there has been many companies like Periscope Films who distribute government produced films that are in the public domain. I think what they are arguing is that the actual film transfer is what's copyrighted here, not the material itself. It's always been a weird grey area of copyright laws. The general idea is to prevent others from "stealing" and profiting from their work, which is expensive and labor-intensive when it comes to procuring and transferring old analog film especially at the volume that Periscope Films deals with. It's also why they have to [unfortunately] put timers and watermarks on their stuff. But in this day and age I totally understand why they do it.
