My late Father had an antique air rifle which was a fine presentation version of what was used in the Austrian army against Napoleon ( early 19C ) using a pump and chamber. A nearly 1/2" lead ball could penetrate oak doors, reputedly, as he never shot it. The standard version spooked the French troops as it was low noise, produced no smoke, needed no powder supplies and was powerful and accurate. The cut trigger fingers off the Austrians captured with them. But there were reliability problems with dirt in valves. It was sold in auction at Southerbys in London in 2003.

If it's like any other PCP rifle the gauge is on the bottom end of a bottle that you can unscrew from the rifle. And you'd obviously clear the rifle before looking at the gauge, though normally you wouldn't even look at it. You'd notice the droop in your groupings and just swap the bottle out, no need to look at the gauge while the bottle is on the rifle. Personally I prefer a lever operated gas ram over PCP. But I've never seen anyone at the range stare at the business end of their rifle to read the gauge. Any decent air rifle, even a .177 is powerful enough to seriously injure or kill a person.

I can see it taking down a deer, but how about a moose or a bear...or a bull? "1200 foot pounds" doesn't say much to someone like me who doesn't shoot. Would this leave an exit wound in a person, or just stay inside? I thought there were shots that looked like they weren't even going through the plywood

@@jasonvoorhees895 Lets just say that, you get more penetration with a smaller round, a large hollow point is not going to penetrate as much (no through and through on a soft target) but it will ruin someone's day... now, with all that been said, it really depends on the distance, the rifle shoots subsonic and the heavier the round the faster it loses velocity, that is why in the video at 100 yards he had the crosshairs almost a foot above where he intended to shoot. As far as using such a rifle to hunt moose or bear, hmmm, shot placement counts.

In the 17th C an hunting airgun was built for King Gustav Adolphus of Sweden that would take deer of similar calibre . It's valve was opened by a dogs head hammer understruck and the cylinder was over the barrel and was a pump up . The stirrup for the foot to pump it up was held in the butt alongside the pump made of leather . The sides of the lock were engraved with a hunter in contemporary garb , montero cap with ostrich feather ,with a fully antlered deer behind. A beautifully made air rifle and in King Gustavus Adolphus collection . History has turned full circle .

@@om617yota8 Your probably right . A London gunmaker called Harman Barne also produced the first repeating rifle at the same time for Prince Rupert I believe . This operated by swinging the trigger guard out 90° , allowing ball From one section in the butt, the powder from another section to follow it , cooking the hammer and allowing the pan to fill all in one motion , before pulling the trigger to fire . Kind of like the action of an RCBS powder measure with an extra stage . But when you compare this to the amazing clocks that formed the centrepieces of the noble dining tables , this was a comparatively easy thing to accomplish .

My Gramps already bought a custom made airgun that was the early 80s, it's convertible caliber, as big as that 72cal but steel ball inside a brass shell, I remember you put a brass barrel sleeve inside so you'll have a .22. It was long, like 5ft 4in, and heavy, like 15+pounds or more. It's bolt action, shooting the steel ball can go through a steel drum all the way, 3 shots your air is depleted or low, despite it's larger air tank. I think it was a prototype concept.

I have had my Remington Model 742 Woods master .308 semi. I was given it by my Dad when I was 13 years old. I shot my first Buck that year with it, an 8 PTR. Whitetail. I still use it, only completely took it apart to clean once cuz it started jammin' , hasn't jammed since, that is 15 years ago. I shot over 100 deer with that rifle.

When I started shooting air guns only custom made big bore rifles were available and the cost was incredibly high, sometimes even causing as much as US$5000. Anything about the thousand dollar range did not look very quality. I can’t see 20 years later things are dramatically changed for the better. There seems to be a lot of options though and I definitely will return to airguns.

That thing is insane. Me hollow point did a review with I think it was 660gn or something like that. And it was like a 1-1/2” group at 100. It’s got potential. I think his worst group was using the 500gn. It was a while back. But I was super impressed either way.

I once had a Sam Yang .45 caliber Big Bore 909 air rifle. It was awesome, but constantly was locking up, probably due to improper charging? Had to send it back to the factory numerous times until I perfected my nitrogen valve & scuba tank. Problem solved. I also had the 9mm version & a .22 version, which were cool. I had a friend who was a dealer, so I got to try out all of the Sam Yang air rifles. .45 caliber was the best. 10 strong shots on high power setting. I used .454 lead roundballs for best velocity & great accuracy. Like a giant, locomotive-powered Red Ryder. Shooting a Hatsan Model 95 in .25 caliber presently. Great squirrel hammer. I would love to have the .72 caliber!!!

Zeus 72 cal is equal to desert eagle 1500ft pounds. Obviously depends on the grain. I believe the 1080 grain comes out to 1500 ft pounds. Powder burner desert eagles shoots 1500 foot pounds. Blows my mind that an air gun can generate so much power. By the way I didn't do the testing on this it was a video I saw of a guy with the Zeus shooting a 1080 grain slug cuz heavier the slug the more foot pounds of energy you get for good old smacking knocked down power. If this thing was a repeater even three shots it would be on everyone's list because when powder burners are hard to obtain and people find out about the air gun world and how powerful they are this gun would be bought with the quickness. Hunting, protection for your home, just an all-around gun.

@@MrRedeyedJedi depending on what slug you use. I stated depends on the slug to achieve 1500ftps. So its more then 1200. I've seen way too many KZbin videos of people with the aea 72 Cal Zeus and they shot up 1,080 something grain bullet and got 1,500 ft lb. And I saw a particular video of a guy comparing it to a desert eagle. He did the chronograph etc. Check a bunch of vids out on the Zeus and you will see what I'm talking about because if you're saying it stops at 1200 foot pounds then you must not know much about it. Like I said the foot pounds depends on what grain of slug it is you're using and heavier the grain the more foot pounds you get.

Interesting side lever cocking design. I had a .177 take down rife. It was a spring piston and cocked with a side lever. It also had 2 safety mechanisms. One to unlock the lever to cock the spring back. Then it had a breech lock that also acted as an anti bear trap mechanism. You unlocked the side lever, cocked it back, and loaded it. Then there was another little catch you had to depress before you could push the lever back forward to close the breech and ready it to fire. It was there so if the gun accidentally fired while you were trying to load it. The breech would grab that catch and stop before it smashed your fingers. Really nice design. But because of all the safety catches you had to work with just to load, it was slow to load and fire. I liked it because it was unique. And it did shoot pretty accurately at 650fps.

My words the chrono were rocking lol you did good to get a reading off a slug so big. Awesome rifle and you'll tighten those groups over time when different ammo and moulds. Aea I like what they're doing especially for the price a guy brought a AEA down to my local airgun club in Halifax UK it was sweet 22 great shot count and got if for a bargain price.

6 minutes to fill up the gun says it all really. That is just a huge amount of air and it looks like it would be a great gun for big game. I prefer something in the .25 .30 range for small to mid sized hunting because of the amount of shots i can get and the relative quietness compared to these monster rifles.

Yes, actually .22, .25., .30 and .35 are most useful airgun calibers where you do see a lot of use. .72 single shot is kind of useless when you can get a shotgun for really cheap price for that once in a blue moon when you need 500 grain slugs going out at 1500 fps. Shotguns are also multishots to and much more versatile than this monster air gun.

I really wish someone would make a version of this with a built in pump system like the aspen or similar so that you could refill it without any other extra tank or device. I don’t care how much the weapon would weigh or if it would take me 15 or 20 minutes to fill it.. it would be self contained and awesome. That’s the only reason. I haven’t purchased this or something similar. There has got to be a market for it.

Just stick with Aspen i have one in .25...great prepper gun...self contained enough fire power for small game, you won't starve...but with the probe you can use any external pumping device, hand pump, compressed air tank or compressor...the accuracy is great, side lever is fast although Chinese (my first gun) it has all the bells shoots everything pellets and slugs...great bang for the buck.

@@stompingpeak2043 the reason for purchase would be to have something in addition to my current weapons that wouldn’t require cartridge ammo or a compressor, external pump etc. Easily being able to carry, and stockpile large amounts of ammo that is resistant to humidity and temperature for long periods of time is ideal. The ability to cleanly take large game when traditional ammo would become difficult to find is also preferable.

Awesome dude! I did notice you holding your breath while you were shooting. Try squeezing the trigger at the bottom of your breath and focus on the follow through with the recoil. I’m spitting 500gn out of a 45/70 at 1200fps, so similar recoil, but it is a shorter barrel which makes a difference. I found that the same pointers towards accuracy with my .243, are just as important if not more so, when stepping up to a much heavier recoiling rifle: Don’t hold your breath, but squeeze trigger at the bottom of your out breath, and focus on staying in the shooting position and regain target sight picture through the optic as recoil settles. Made a huge difference for me when I began to focus on that stuff again after being initially surprised by the recoil. I reckon that air gun is more accurate than you might think, and there’s potential to tighten those groups up a fair bit. But anyway, awesome vid and great work! Would love to see what those pills do to a whitetail!

Lee Precision can make a custom bullet mold for your 72 cal. Send them a couple of bullets and they will get it done. I have about 30 of their molds and I shoot for next to nothing with all of my guns. Check around at tire shops for their discard wheel weights for free lead. Another thing you can do is make your targets bullet retaining by having them filled with packed sand 7 inches deep. Can keep reusing the lead. One of my videos at my channel talks about my targets.

You don't want to go supersonic with air, transitioning back too quick makes tumble. Easier to go subsonic slow and FAT. The energy transfer is unlike anything else powderburner that isn't an elephant gun.

I've seen 50 cal air rifles but I was thinking with a little fabrication work and some testing maybe someone could make that monster 72 cal into a high power 50 cal air rifle capable of who knows what with out actually trying to do the fabrication and testing could just blow the gun up or it could shoot further with higher mussel velocity and may need special ammo instead of hollow point but I'm only speculating at this point

Did you know that the 1st airguns were made in the 1800s? They were powerful enough to kill an elk. They too weighed about 12 lbs . About midway down the barrel was a bell like a moose that held the air. But I don't know how the air was pumped into the gun but the bullet was muzzle loaded.

I wanted to build a liquid air rifle. The tank would hold liquid air that would be allowed to change phase. That could generate pressures in the powder range. Wanted to rebuild the H&K G11 into it as the rotating bolt would make the perfect valve. And yes, it would be full auto! Also, you could change the ballistics by adjusting the pressure regulator.

This is already pushing rounds into the black powder range... my black powder .577 3 band Enfield pushes out a 500 grain slug at about 1100fps. Which isn't much faster than this...

@Ben States Liquid air phase change can go 70K+ psi in a cylinder. Almost impossible to contain! But at that pressure, you could drive rifle bullets instead of pellets.

With a lead round? Depends on the material but it would most likely just go splat. My black powder rifles push a 500 grain round to 1200fps, and they don't even mark an ar500 plate. It just splatters. Makes a slight dent in 3mm steel. You would need to develop a round with a metal core to get any kind of decent penetration.

I wonder what adding a second air tank, changing the barrel to a .50, and improving the projectile would do for performance. could make a perfect stealth weapon for long range assassinations, and you could be much closer without worrying about giving yourself away with the boom!

Well I mean they don't beat regular firearms but they are still fun to shoot. They also will get some hunting done as well. I love to plink around with airgun or bbs but the real bullets are also great.

@@stompingpeak2043 A Sam Yang Big Bore 909 PCP air rifle shoots a .444 lead roundball at 950 FPS. In 8 shots it only drops down to 820 FPS, time to recharge. It will fire a heavy lead muzzleloader Buffalo slug at 750 FPS. Yeah, that’s well within firearm capability. It’s faster to get 8 shots than a blackpowder Hawken, and fires about like a Hawken .45 muzzloader packed with 50 grains FFG blackpowder. (instead of full 65 or 70 grains)

@@boomstick4054 idk. Pretty sure black powder is just as fast. Actually faster with modern weapons and pre load(breach loaders basically have pre made bullets with charges) compared to the standard old school method. Even regular loaders only take a few seconds to reload. They are probably the most fun to shoot. Sure air rifles are fun but they are nowhere close to a good loader. Probably the best time you'll have plinking or shooting in general. I still love air guns tho.

I entered into the air rifle world a couple years back when my mom bought me a gamo urban for Christmas. It’s a super accurate .22 caliber but I’d love a Texan SS or this Zeus is amazing looking… that being said it’s way more expensive than firearms that are more powerful and easier to use so it’s not for everyone..

The thing I like about the big bore air rifles though is the hunting and in some states there isn't regulations on them plus you can shoot them just about anywhere outside of city limits that's why I'd take one over a real gun

@@travislupum That's interesting I forget that you can't shoot guns as freely in some places. Here in AZ there's a lot of state land and BLM managed land where you can legally shoot. But if you didn't have that the air gun would prolly be nice.

So I was super interested until I realized it's essentially tethered to a high pressure air filling station. Makes sense, such a large projectile will require a lot of air. Neat, but I don't intend to own one.

I completely don't understand where your problem with it lies at all, (that is assuming you buy the refilling station with it as well, though it isn't at all necessary for hunting applications). It's an entirely practical set-up. Consider this, the power only starts to taper after 5 shots, meaning you have AT LEAST 6-7 shots that can each EASILY down a deer or something considerably larger, (a 50 cal airgun is all you need for deer hunting). If you need more shots than that you are either doing something very wrong or illegal. Now when it comes to simple target practice what does it matter at all as you are already going to be staying in one area, so wherin lies the problem? See why I don't get your comment? You may appreciate this more though, I want to send you a link to another youtube video showcasing a 50 cal airgun that you will probably consider MUCH MORE practical given your comment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/joSXcoGaZbN2h7M. It's much cooler in my opinion. You can still go deer hunting and a single charge lasts waaaay longer, I'm guestimating maybe 20 shots, it's not made clear. However as a super-badass feature this airgun also fires crossbow bolts and with more power than any crossbow you can buy, (I currently own last years most powerful crossbow and this made me a bit jealous lol). I would probably favor this 50 cal. Also this is a really cool youtube channel if you've never come across it before, (Demolition Ranch). He showcases alot of interesting firearms.

Dragging a suitable air compressor to support this is kind of like improving the range and flow of one of those Super Soaker water guns by connecting it to an air hose to increase the range and a garden hose so you don’t have to refill it.

It is 12 gauge, right? Ought to run some 12g saboted rounds through that sucker, see what it can get up too. Yeah you’d lose some foot poundage, but the foot pounds you’d retain and the extension of your range would be amazing. I’m seeing 1177 foot pounds at 1030 FPS. That incredible! You’d dang near take an elk off it’s hoofs.

@@stoneyswolf what do you mean? a 55 grain m193 round out a 20-inch barrel produces around 1200-1300 ft/lbs and that's being generous. This thing is at what? Around 1500? Yeah, your damn right I would take the much heavier bullet with more energy that's going to leave a much, much bigger hole for the bear to bleed out from. I can virtually guarantee you this airgun would drop a black bear a lot faster from a lung shot than an ar. The bare minimum bullet weight that should be used for bears is around 150 grains and 180-grain bullets are more preferable. Literally, triple a 5.56. So, how about not talking out of your ass when you have no idea what you talking about especially when you could go read forum post after forum post agreeing with me that bullet weight is more important than raw energy for bears.

@@anthonyjones8043 while your loading another round I've dumped a 30 round mag. I can swap mags faster than you can reload another shot. The AR is a very versatile weapon and can be chambered in a variety of different calibers that will out perform that air rifle.

Maybe the slight inconsistency from the 100 yd shots isn't the fault of the shooter or the gun? Maybe it's down to the actual ammo being used? The pellets did not look that uniform to me. They looked far to short or compact for their diameter. The shape of the .50 cal pellet looked a better option and it also looked more uniform in shape. And the 500 grain slug is about 100 to 150 grains to heavy. _I'm sure that a company like H&N would/could produce a far better quality of pellet for this .72 cal beast of an air __-rifle-__ cannon/howitzer?_ 8-))... *For Your Information.* But going way back to the late 1700's, the Austrian army used to use airguns. They used the Girardoni 20/21 shot repeating air rifle in either .46 cal (146.3 grains) or .51 cal (201.49 grains) with a muzzle velocity of about 500 fps at 117 ft lbs. PS - It was interesting to hear that the gun sounded like a badly oiled, spring air rifle when being fired 8-\\...

Louis and Clark explored the west of the USA, back in the day, with air guns. I don't remember any specifics, other than they used air rifles. Pretty cool and dam interesting, to know many nations were using the same type of weaponry.

That's a heavy gun. Almost double the weight of a centerfire rifle. The performance is impressive. 500 grains at over 1,000 feet. They should be doing more research on air rifles.

There isn't much to improve on. I believe only England has made heavy use of pneumatic weapons during warfare. In the end miniature explosions using powder is cheaper and more reliable. Rail guns are a technology we are improving on though!

@@applesandpairs7691 lol yes it would, I've shot heaps of rats with one of my 1.77 cal rifles and at 1400 fps it realy messes a rat up with a good head shot using hollow or flat headed pellets, i have 5,5 cal rifles too and one of them ts the Artemis GR1600W and thats realy powerfull though I've never tested it on a rat before because 1,77 is more than effective for even the largest of rats, so this thing would make a rat go splat in a big way deffo 🤣👍
