The thing is, during the period of the Trucial States (the British protectorates of what's now the UAE), there was an actual conflict with Saudi Arabia called the Buraimi dispute. It was a series of covert attempts by Saudi Arabia to influence the loyalties of tribes in and around the Buraimi oasis in the 1940s and 1950s, which culminated in an armed conflict between forces and tribes loyal to Saudi Arabia, on one side, and Oman and the Trucial States on the other. It was the result of a territorial dispute over the town of Al-Buraimi in Oman, and parts of what is now the city of Al Ain in the UAE. The dispute arose from Saudi Arabia's claim made in 1949 of sovereignty over a large part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's territory where oil was suspected to be present and an area in a 20-mile circle around the center of the Buraimi Oasis. The claim arose after the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco) crossed the Riyadh line which was a border line negotiated in 1935 by the British on behalf of Oman and Abu Dhabi with Saudi Arabia, which the latter had rejected. The Saudis relied on history for their claim and despite negotiations, the Saudis attempted to take it by force, which the Trucial Oman Scouts paramilitary force (as well as Levies from Aden Protectorate in what's now Yemen) fought back and won.

Although Qatar has one land border, the UAE has claimed they had a border with Qatar. Which was disputed with Saudi Arabia. In 1949, Saudi Arabia under the rule of Ibn Saud and Saudi Aramco had made incursions to the Western Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, due to the prospect of getting oil. After the declaration of independence of the UAE in 1971, Saudi Arabia withheld the recognition of the country on the basis of territorial disputes with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In 1974, King Faisal was asked by Sheikh Zayed that the UAE was in dire need of cooperation from Saudi Arabia in its recognition of the country and was asked to open the negotiations over the border issue. King Faisal used the tactic of non-recognition as a leverage against the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to make it reach a settlement quickly. In August 1974, an agreement was settled. While Saudi Arabia ratified it in 1993, the UAE has yet to do so. Their reasons being that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi was put in a weakened position after the British withdrawal and the US support of the Saudi oil industry. Not to mention the disputed border in question went up to Qatar and Qatar was not included in the treaty talks. So in the UAE's eyes, the territory that was given to Saudi Arabia is still Emirati soil. And they've since been announcing construction projects connecting Qatar to the UAE that has frustrated the Saudi royals.

I’m quite a bit sad that your second channel or *gasp* real life has taken away your priority of completing this series as originally intended but I’ll still appreciate what you’re willing to put into it. (Also…Slacking on the UK travel advice but good to know about the lovely airport in case crazy things fall into place and I do end up in the region.)

Every country that heavily relies on oil or gas should handle it like Norway. They literally cant run out of money anymore and it is one of the best places to live in the world unlike Qatar. So I think the friendly route as a lot more viable than it seems at first
