Q: "why did Thanos snap?" A: because Thanos snapped to signify how effortless it was in the source material, and the snap became an iconic moment in marvel lore to the point where it would be somewhat insulting not to include it. Basically, fan service to those who were looking forward to a spiritual successor to one of Marvel's most iconic storylines. Q: "why did the others snap?" A: Thanos had a much greater understanding of the stones than anyone on the side of the avengers. The extreme toll the infinity stones take on the user's body (in this version) take experimentation completely off the table. They know from experience that a snap definitely works. Basically, they did it because it was the only method they could be sure would work

As far as the "nobody's attacked earth" thing, wouldn't (approximately) half of all potential earth-attackers have also been dusted for that time span?
@albericponcedeleon26965 жыл бұрын
I mean, up until that point in the MCU, only Asgardians, Kree, Skrulls, and Thanos' forces had been to Earth. Asgardians had forged friendly relations with Earth and were effectively homeless. The Kree backed down since the 90s and they never had much interest in Earth anyway (unless we count AoS and even then its a fringe group of Kree). Skrulls came to Earth following Carol and they have since formed a friendly relationship with both her and Nick Fury. Thanos had already done the deed, and the only reason he went after Earth was because it had Infinity Stones. The only outside threats left come from the mystical side, so we only have to assume that Wong and co. held down the Sanctums in the absence of a Sorcerer Supreme.
@Sada-eb1zp5 жыл бұрын
Half of the population of the universe being gone is actually a reason for Galactus *not* to attack them. He waits for the worlds to have lots of population because he feasts of life energy. There's even a theory online that Thanos did all this to save everyone from Galactus.

i have a theory about this. in doctor strange, the ancient one says that when she looks into her future with the time stone, she can never see past her own death. we can assume that these same rules apply to strange. so when strange uses the time stone to see into the future to figure out if they beat thanos, he wouldn't be able to definitively answer whether or not a scenario in which he dies would result in victory. meaning there could be 14 million other scenarios in which strange dies in the final battle or survives the snap and dies in some other way, but they still defeat thanos. another theory i have is that what strange was actually referring to when he said there was just 1 is tony's sacrifice. in every scenario in which they win, tony snaps. this is supported by him saying "if i tell you what's going to happen, it won't happen" which is a somewhat niche line often used in stories with time travel or psychics/premonitions that is to foreshadow that character's death. i think tony was smart enough to infer what that line meant, which is why he knows exactly what he needs to do when strange signals him with a single finger up.

Thor definitely had the best character in those movies, he couldn't but help to. Letting himself go is one thing but the fat jokes at his expense is what seemed in bad taste. They have probably seen that one "Fathers Day" episode where Rose touches baby Rose and suddenly paradox eating reapers appear. I see that episode metioned so often in discussions about Doctor who, especially when two doctors meet. I can totally see screenrant do an article about what doesnt make sense in Doctor who, and half of the entries being "Why didn´t the paradox reapers appear when..." Warning, rant mode has activated. They then question why there are no reapers when two Doctors touch each other. Then they cite the grandfather paradox for the original appearance of the reapers. Rose stops her father from being killed, which stops her from going to the day of his death, etc. What they fail to see is that the way worse paradox is that she saves her father after she just saw him die alone in front of her FUCKING TWO MINUTES AGO! Rose intruded on her own timeline of two minutes ago. Her later touching baby rose is a very tiny paradox that only strengthens the reapers enough that they can make it into the church they were hiding in. We have seen that it is possible to change the past of someone. At the end of the episode, Roses memories literally change (which would mean she wouldnt have a reason to go back and be at her fathers side while he died alone), and in a christmas special, the eleventh Doctor literally invades someones past to change their memories and make them a better person. He even brings a child version of them to meet their current self. No reapers, no time complications, nothing. The guy eleven is trying to change is like 90, so the universe has plenty of time to sort itself out between young adult guy and grumpy old guy. The same happens with rose. Between baby rose and her mother witnessing the event, and adult rose, the universe only has to change a few tiny bits. Her father has to die again, which is easy, as he is a squishy human, and roses mother has to tell child rose a slightly different story about her fathers death. The big paradox for the episode was the two different versions of the same event happening simultaneously only two minutes apart on their personal timelines. During his Timelord Victorious episode, Ten changes an important event, a fix point in human history, and it changes his memories of what he read on Timelord Wikipedia about the event. Him specifically knowing what will happen is why he couldnt interfere without breaking the rules. In the "Fathers Day" episode, they not only remember the alternate event, it was still in their short term memory. This is a disruption of their personal timelines first and foremost, with the "dont touch baby rose"-bit just as little extra, but many people still cant stop thinking you cant touch your previous selves. And Screenrant are just the kind of stupid people who might think that way.

I think it’s clear that either Cap told Bucky his plans or it was so blindingly obvious he didn’t have to. They say he’ll be back in seconds. Everyone is expecting him to be back in seconds. What does Bucky say? I’ll miss you buddy then repeat their conversation when he was leaving to go to war? Either he was expecting him to be unsuccessful or he was expecting him to be gone a long time. His demeanor suggested to me he was happy for him. I’m pretty comfortable that all Steve had to say was “Peggy was right in the next room.” And Bucky would be like “Say no more!” Hell, at that point he might have talked Steve into it.
@zemoxian5 жыл бұрын
Two timelines I’d like to see are the Thanos-lite timeline where he disappeared in 2014. And the Cap returns timeline where he exposed Hydra in SHIELD as he helps Peggy Carter assemble it. I’m also hoping they explain the glaring inconsistency between the TV and movies after Infinity War. I’ll have to rewatch the end of last season but the big bad was preparing to fight Thanos and I think the New York battle was mentioned. Perhaps the New York thing could be retconned as the Defenders blowing up a skyscraper. I don’t know. If so, then this season would make sense in that context. The alternative would be that this season of SHIELD takes place in the Thanos-lite timeline. That way the New York attack never happened and the show can follow it’s own course. Runaways and Cloak & Dagger could go that way too. I hope not but given that both shows are about teens, having half the teenage cast age 5 years would probably be troublesome for the shows and people have enough difficulty handling all six original Avengers surviving the snap. I haven’t seen Far From Home yet so I’ll be interested in how they handled it there. Much of Peter’s close cohort seems to have been spared according to the trailers.

And this isn't out of character for Steve. He didn't leave the present without a Captain America, he passed on the shield to Sam, making sure someone was there to take his place. Steve is a man out of his time, he wasn't supposed to be in the now. He never belonged in the now. His return to his own time was the most logical thing that could happen to a character who had come to the present when Thanos' actions regarding the Earth's part in his plan were set in place, and left when he helped thwart that plan. He sure as hell doesn't belong in the past where Peggy Carter as Director of Shield hires Armin Zola. That's canon. And if ? Steve is man out of his his time what does that say about *Bucky* who is also a man out of time. Why can't he also go back? Maybe pick up a comic book before talking about shit about Marvel's most political character. Oh and the "man out of time" thing? I get tired of this common theme of people disliking that Thor's depression is "played for laughs" as if humor was never a coping strategy employed by people suffering from depression. I resonated with Thor a lot in Endgame and through the humor, whether his own or the movie poking fun at him, saw the pain he was experiencing. Could just be my own struggle with depression that made me see things that weren't there but I do recall the feelings quite vividly.
@TheKat123643 жыл бұрын
Yes. Humour is a cooping mechanism. I think it was just as much needed for the characters around Thor as it was for Thor. Its implied by their reactions to his weight gain that none of them had seen him in a ling time. They assumed he was running his village as a leader. I think they felt guilty for not being there and made jokes to lighten the mode.

Yes, laughter is a coping mechanism, but the problem with Thor in particular is that most films in general depict men going through depressive states as jokes and easy to laugh at humor. That's why everybody is so mad about how it was portrayed. A lot of the time women get the emotional moments that make the audiences understand their pain while, in Thor's case, it was used as a punchline in multiple instances.
@mophead_xu3 жыл бұрын
@@TheKat12364 yeah i used to kinda scrunch me nose at that as well, until i re-evaluate what i thought i knew about how people cope and how others around them react to their coping mechanism. i don't remember every character's reaction to thor sinking that low, but i remember rocket's, and thor's own reaction, and his mum. looking back, watching thor was painful in sympathetic way; i get what they were going for now. and if there's some audience that then treat him as laughing stock, too bad but that checks out-people _do_ in fact laugh at others, anw. it's more of a testament of those particular audience than the movie maker, imo.
@mikearchibald7443 жыл бұрын
His depression wasn't played for laughs, the jokes in the movie were played for laughs. Fat jokes are still considered the only 'safe' jokes to make, but even that is starting to change. WE aren't depressed, so those jokes were made for US to laugh at HIS pain. Thats why people object. Thats because its a movie, not real life. For 'real' then pretty much all bets are off in how people react to half the world disappearing, and Thor, well, the guy has seen his planet destroyed and people devastated. For 'humour' they should have focused on the rock thing and bug. That wasnt' bad with the video games, but could have been better. Hell, some young asgaardians being shown and wishing for the days of Loki in charge would have been truthfully funny. Hell, if Odin could have stayed alive another half year they could have had some real help. But somebody's mother dies in a movie and making jokes about their appearance isn't playing for laughs, its just cruel. Of course sometimes people are cruel, but movies have their own rules to play by.

But actually his couch should be green because he and Tony had a bad relationship and Tony's armor is red. Green is opposite red on the color wheel, symbolising how he wants to be a different person than Tony. Only after the events of end game would the couch be changed to orange, because orange is closer to red than green, but still shows that Clint is his own person.

Cuz Thor himself was using the humor to try and act like he’s okay but in reality he just kept bringing himself down. I think they meant him to be constantly shitting on himself. Like when Tony says he’s in no condition to use the new gauntlet, I don’t think he means his weight I think he means his mental state. At least that’s how I’ve always seen it. Like his whole point is that he wants to know he’s still worthy and that he can do something properly. Also the biggest problem with their “why wasn’t ant-man helping people” the man lives in SAN FRANCISCO and the original attacks were in New York on the other side of the country. You need to dock another half-point at least. The half-point you gave them re all of the OG Avengers not getting dusted isn't a valid criticism of ENDGAME; it's, at a huge stretch, a "valid" criticism of INFINITY WAR, not ENDGAME.
@redholm5 жыл бұрын
I would agree if it was only the OG avengers that survived the Snap. but seeing as other than Thor and Iron man the others where just luck. I don't see it as a big critisism. We are talking about like. I think it ends up being a 1/16 chance. Much lower than the Ant-man odds. Although ant-man litteraly had the thing to bring him back right there. Although the Rat thing would be a good point against that.
@bel33385 жыл бұрын
Agreed that the half point was very generous; I'd argue that it isn't really a contrivance. Looking at it mathematically, having the 'original' Avengers survive and the newer ones vanish is no different than any other combination of survivors and dusted, the same way that 1 2 3 4 5 6 has exactly the same probability of winning the lottery as every other number combination. The only difference is that we put meaning to one set and not the other, but that human element of importance makes no difference in a random selection. My dictionary described a contrivance as something which imparts artificiality to a story, and this doesn't feel artificial to me, though I can see how it would to others, just as how I can imagine people thinking something was horribly amiss if those numbers ever did come out of the lottery
@muhaoai46935 жыл бұрын
If I remember right, in the comic Infinity Gauntlet several of the active Avengers of the time were victims of the snap, which is why the group that confronted Thanos was made up of a hodgepodge group of Avengers (Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch), X-Men (Cyclops, Wolverine), solo heroes (Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Hulk) and villains (Doctor Doom), among others. The MCU lineup is nowhere near as huge, but then neither is their number of available characters. But then, the OG Avengers not being dusted makes sense from a meta perspective: Endgame is meant to be their final movie together. How insulting would it be for not all of them to be present because they got dusted?

Look, as a person really into Norse beliefs, Heimdall definitely has an R at the end of his name. That being said, these movies are not Norse mythology. If they were, Hella (instead of the movie's Hela) would have been Loki's daughter, the sister of Fenrir, and technically would have been cousins of Thor, as Loki is often referred to as either Odin's blood brother or foster brother. Also, Thor would have died in Ragnarök, succumbing to the venomous breath of Jörmungandr after Thor kills the serpent. Odin would have died in Ragnarök to Fenrir, who would have been killed by Viðarr, another of Odin's sons. These movies are based off the mythos to a degree, yes, but they are their own form of stories or interpretations of the events, and as such the characters in them have their own names, and don't have to follow the same spelling we have for them.
