I never got the opportunity to correct a call like that, but I always swore to myself that I would if I was put in that sort of situation. You’re not supposed to argue a call in favor of yourself, so why would you ever think it’s ok to argue a call against yourself. In any game, there’s probably like 3-4 questionable calls against you, so allowing the refs to give you an advantage is just part of the game that all evens out in the end. You aren’t a murder witness

Even if he did touch the ball, if the ref called it that he didn't, it is NOT sportsmanship to tell him otherwise. Like all sports, basketball is built on competition, where both sides are pushing every aspect of their play to the limit to attain victory. If you deliberately hinder yourself, knowing that the enemy doesn't have to do so in return, is just an insult to your opponent, as if to say "We're so righteous, we'll sacrifice our opportunity so that we don't disadvantage you!" No opponent would ever want that. A real opponent works to make the game as hard as possible for his adversary.
