The issue with math is that it takes a lot of concentration to get into it, just like anything else, and you've gotta have an interest or passion for it otherwise you won't have the drive to want it. It's the same with learning an instrument, or sport or a dance... or even comitting to a workout. If you aren't into it, no amount of getting deep into it is going to sustain you for the long haul. As a kid, you're a sponge, so everything is new and exciting - but as you're a teen or adult your true passions take priority. So it isn't an intelligence issue, it's a boredom issue.

I remember in elementary school when I wanted math to be harder because I understood it. When we were learning +\- by hundreds, I wanted to go to thousands. When we were learning decimals, I wanted to go further than hundredths. Fast forward to 7th grade and I just want math to be easy again. Edit: I feel like I should give an update about this topic. Looking back at my 7th grade year, I was just incredibly lazy and had next to no desire to do schoolwork. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m at a new school now but I feel that I am doing much better than before. Oh, and I actually get math again so I guess the point I made a year ago doesn’t stand today due to that fact.

But that's the thing: just because it's important doesn't mean everyone must learn it. And now I'm sitting here, barely understanding anything. The math doesn't even look like math anymore. We almost don't use numbers, everything's just letters and the whole greek alphabet. Some of the things we learned in school turned out to be false or half-truths. Ever heard of imaginary numbers? yeah, those exist for some reason. Don't even get me started on proof writing, it's basically essays but on math. Also, mathematical analysis is like the worst thing I've ever had to learn. And that's how I started to hate math. when i was learning division, i stuck with this method that i learned back on first grade (pretty sure it was first grade?) and i wrote one of this stuff on a test and "you're not doing the method i taught" doesn't it work though? i think algebra is baby shit though.

Neither do I, and it’s one of the few thing we learned that I didn’t use. In every math class above 5th grade. we just used calculators for the 4 basic operations. It’s such a long and useless process that unlike algebra which has some uses in life you’ll have no use for

Math is easy for me but I understand how it can be hard for some people, especially since because if you don't understand one concept your basically fucked moving forward. I also remember sucking ass at times tables but being able to finish algebra and pre-calc tests in under 20 minutes while getting an A.
@takeuchi57602 жыл бұрын
Bruh, maths is never easy, there's always something you can learn, something challenging enough to make you want to bash your head into the wall. I remember thinking something like that after completing my integral calculus textbook, but then I found this other book, and I couldn't move a single question from that book for a while.

I was the same as you are now when I was a highschool freshman. I fell in love with mathematics in the second year! It's so beautiful and cool! The problem is, everyone cares only about grades,not understanding what the subject is actually. I would put the blame on teachers, math is fundamental to every human being, pretty much the universe speaks it.

i sometimes agree the teachers make math seem like the most boring thing to ever exist and just use grades to cover that up I am currently in financial maths most of the stuff I learn is actually very practical extremely extremely useful and important to life but I did use to take more complex classes so complex that mathematics became a completely horrible experience like this stuff 200 times harder than calculus i think that when i stopped liking math

I just completed my bachelor's in Computer Science and I had to take Discrete Mathematics I and II, Calculus I and II, Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Formal Languages (Computational Theory), Applied Linear Algebra, and Statistics. And I absolutely HATED math in high school and middle school. I thought it was the pits. But you know what? I passed all of these mathematical classes just fine. Point is, if I can do it, anyone can do it. Anyone who struggles with mathematics, just know that you can do it and you're smarter than you think you are. Put in extra time and study and you'll do fantastic.

My experience was kinda the opposite. I didn't have the attention span to do very well on those early multiplication worksheets, but once there were letters thrown in math started to be about solving a mystery instead of crunching numbers, making it almost fun. Sometimes even just fun! Calculus took things a bit too far, though.
