I feel like they just need more accessibility items to counteract the randomness, like the 0IV rusty bottle cap that people have been asking for since bottle caps were introduced. If everything could be optimized with nothing more than a few clicks, it begs the question, why is there randomness in the first place? Why not make things like Legends Arceus where stats are uniform across every instance of the species at every grit level, with the nature being the only influential factor?

Pokémon should introduce two items, the Rusty bottle cap and the Dented bottle cap. Rusty bottle caps turn your Pokémon's selected IV to 0; have the same rarity as Gold bottle caps. Dented bottle caps change a Pokémon's IV by one level (1-31) depending on how many you want to use. Honestly mints and bottlecaps have made me nostalgic for spending time getting my dudes. That said, the online mode should work like showdown as others have mentioned. You should just be able to choose any pokemon without having them, move their stats by the single digits for fine tooth refining and just a drop down for natures and IVs. The only reason they dont is because it wouldnt make them more money like requiring new adopters to buy 3 or 4 games which never go on sale and are still full price 20 years later.

It's not a 1 in 3 chance for Attack and Speed to not be the boosted stats, it's worse; 1 in 5. There are 20 ways you can select 3 IVs from the 6 (6C3 = 20). Out of those, there are 4 where neither Attack or Speed are boosted to 31 (4C3 = 4). That is, a 4 in 20 or 1 in 5 chance of neither Attack of Speed being boosted.
@johnnyappleseed65993 ай бұрын
More comprehensive method: 20 ways to select 3 IVs from 6 (6C3 = 20). 10 of those have Attack as one of the boosted IVs (5C2 = 10) Out of the ones without Attack as one of the boosted IVs, 6 have Speed as one of the boosted IVs (4C2 = 6) So 16 out of 20 have at least one of Attack and Speed boosted to 31. 4 in 20 = 1 in 5 chance that neither are boosted.

Alongside adding a rusty bottle cap that sets an IV to 0, I think they should also rework the Golden bottle cap to allow you to set a single IV to the number of your choice as opposed to simply capping all your stats at once. It's a feature that, while totally fine on fast physical attackers, doesn't account for any future mechanics that might penalize players for having a high Special. And having the rare Golden cap give you full control over a single stat would come in real handy for further pushing the motivation to cheat out of players' minds.

@Grilled_Cheeses3 ай бұрын
@exotericidymnic3530 Actually, Hidden Power was still available when they first introduced Bottle Caps, which was in Sun and Moon. Hidden Power was only removed beginning with Sword and Shield along with the other moves that got axed in Dexit. Because of this, I feel more inclined to believe that it wasn’t the ability to inflate a Pokémon’s IVs that led to HP being dropped. Rather, my theory is that this may have to do with the Fairy type now being a big deal. I know Fairy type was already established by Sun and Moon, but Hidden Power was still not changed to include the Fairy type as a possible option. And if they were to change HP to include Fairy type, they would have to change the formula that determines a Pokémon’s HP. Doing this would basically cause every transferred Pokémon’s HP to be completely different than what it originally was (the odds of the Pokémon’s HP staying the same would be astronomically low that this is all but guaranteed.) Understanding the formula for Hidden Power is already quite a headache for those who don’t understand enough about programming or mathematics. But altering HP to include Fairy type AND creating a system that maintains a transferred Pokémon’s HP? I’m not a programmer, but I suspect that, at least for the latter, this is easier said than done. And if it is the case that trying to create a formula that maintains a preexisting HP upon transfer to Pokémon Home is indeed a huge pain, then it would make a little bit of sense why HP was dropped. But even if they hadn’t gotten rid of Hidden Power and just chose to not change it, why should the Fairy type forever be excluded as a possible option for that move? Not only does this seem incredibly arbitrary, but it could have genuinely been a decent option against Dark, Dragon and Fighting type Pokémon for those who otherwise cannot learn any good moves against them. Why deny them this possibility yet maintain all the other possible types for HP? But as I said before, I’m not a programmer, so I have no idea what this would entail for the games. If you, reading this, are a gaming programmer, do you have any idea if there is a less complicated way to implement both support for Fairy type HP and maintaining the HP of transferred Pokémon? If you can think of something, mind sharing your thoughts?
@exotericidymnic35303 ай бұрын
@@Grilled_Cheeses Yea, it would be really easy to just add an npc in the post-game (or item) that will change your pokemon's HP type, they already did something of similar complexity by adding bottlecaps to separate IVs from the personality value. There would only be 4 reasons to remove HP: 1 to improve the competitive metagame since HP is incredibly unbalanced, however this definitely is not the reason why, since GF has proven they are not willing to make these sorts of "balance patches" unless the element is very problematic (such as parental bond or intimidate), and because they added an even more unbalanced version of hidden power (terastalization and tera blast) in gen 9. 2 because they wanted to reduce the difficulty of teambuilding with the minimal effort possible, and removing HP was the easiest answer to the HP question. 3 because HP "is the signature move of Unown" who was removed from the game. 4 because they pulled random moves out of a hat to delete.

I did some napkin math, and unless I'm missing something, blisy was actually really lucky to get it in only 519 resets, it would have taken 1280 on average. The odds of the three guarenteed max IVs being correct is actually 20%, not a 1/3 chance - the odds for each guaranteed IV roll being acceptable are 4/6, then 3/5, then 2/4, since it's not going to max the same IV twice. Then, for the two remaining IV rolls, it's a 1/16 chance each for a 0 or a 1 out of 31. That multiplies up to about 0.078%, or 1/1280. So if 519 resets took 21 hours, it would take the average player about 51 hours worth of playtime on average to obtain one. And getting lucky at 21 hours of playtime is just as likely as getting equally unlucky, having to go through 73 hours of playtime at 1799 attempts (assuming they use the same strategy). I also agree with you, game freak has done an awesome job at improving the situation overall, but god did they mess up here. I love the feeling of making a pokemon feel special by having only one of it in the world, and I think they genuinely had the right idea by setting some of its IVs to be max. But if they knew this was going to be a problem, and they wanted to ensure players felt good about catching it, they probably should have given us a way to choose what those guaranteed stats would be assuming we'll want a 31 in everything.

I wonder what people would think if instead they had just not allowed Ursaluna into VGC at all, since that would technically also remove the need to SR for it
@linusscholz99713 ай бұрын
Actually, the odds for finding both attack and speed to be random are 1:5, *not* 1:3. I don't know how you make up that 1:3-chance, but there are (6 over 3) = 20 different assignments of the "Best" stat, and only four of them ignore both attack and speed. Therefore, the odds for the perfect TR Bloodmoon Ursaluna are 1 in 5,120. :) But who am I to comment. I was merely looking for a 0-attack one for Singles (using the Drifblim strategy) but got that double-0 on my overall third try and now wreck with it in VGC. Ursaluna was my by far luckiest static encounter ever.

TBH this kind of stuff is why I think they haven't sent a legal team after showdown. They know it's BS. They know we have another easier way to test out strats and they let it slide. Ultimately we still have to buy the games and systems to compete in official tournaments, so they get their money anyways. Also, competitive players that aim for this kind of optimization are probably 0.000001% of the playerbase. Bottle capping to max IVs is more than enough for the average player (or even those who aim to get master ball rank)

I pretty much settled on my hunt. The very first one I found that was either 0/1 IV speed, it had decent atk, and when I calc'd it. It was 6 in attack (iirc). I was like... GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME lol. Def a nightmare hunt. Funny enough too, I almost never run the 'op' mons like this, but I always feel compelled to min/max my Pokémon, just incase. I did end up using BMursa in a tournament, so I guess it did end up mattering. Great video!

worth noting for anyone else wanting to try it, specs arboliva is incredibly useful for the fact that in addition to the speed check (which is just a couple evs above min speed), petal dance (level up) or grass knot (tm) will ohko the raid boss ursaluna most times, assuming that it goes before calm mind (aka speed check passed). considering you get a full heal at the start of the battle (so you can't come in with a 1hp speed check strength sap user to instantly check both, i tried that), ohko into summary screen is the fastest attack check as after removing the turn for speed check, it will only take capture animation and 1 extra turn if you're unlucky. (petal dance will automatically continue so you wouldn't need to input another time for the extra turn) in more detail: the boss has 5x hp and is lv70, resulting in this calc (assuming 31 iv hp/spd ursaluna): 252+ SpA Choice Specs Arboliva Petal Dance vs. Lvl 70 0 HP / 0 SpD Ursaluna-Bloodmoon: 1262-1488 (97.4 - 114.9% of 5x hp boss) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO the cheapest arboliva for this without needing to put much thought into it is as follows: Arboliva @ Choice Specs Level: 100 Quiet Nature EVs: 252 SpA / 16 Spe IVs: 0 Spe - Petal Dance

Here's an idea I came up with. Every time your pokemon defeats another pokemon, your pokemon gets a specific amount of EV points, depending on the pokemon. Your max amount of EV points on each pokemon will be the same amount of Evs you can have on a pokemon in any other game. Then you can go to an EV traning menu where you can choose a stat to boost your EVs. That way, you don't need to find specific pokemon to boost a single stat. As for IVs, i dunno maybe legendaries/mythicals/speacial pokemon can always have maxed IVs😅

7:13 the probability of not having the two stats get boosted is not one in three : take the first boosted stat, you'd want it to be one of four stats so 4/6, take the second stat you want it be one of four stats except one of them is already boosted so 3/5 same for the last stat wich makes 4/6x3/5x2/4 = 1/5 this is not very important though, good vid
@iMind-Juris3 ай бұрын
Thank you for saying this - I got to 7:10, paused the video, thought "that doesn't seem right, but now I have to know exactly what it should be and why." I started by considering the fact each stat is essentially drawing straws when the guaranteed 31 IVs are being rolled. Either Attack or Speed would start by pulling one of the 3 not necessarily 31 straws from a pool of 6 total, and the next one of those two would have to draw one of the 2 remaining not [necessarily] 31 straws from a pool of 5 total. After that, any other stat could draw anything - it wouldn't matter (so we can say either Attack and Speed will draw theirs first). Thus, the actual answer would be (3/6)×(2/5), that being 1/5 (not 1/3). Slightly fewer factors than your method, but the same answer. To double-check myself, I proceeded to count in my head exactly how many 6 bit binary numbers would have more than three bits of either state, found that figure to be 44, and then it was easy to see that any of the 4 stats which aren't either Attack or Speed could be un-guaranteed and it'd be a valid and desired configuration. Thus again, 4/20 odds i.e., 1/5. [Edit]

I love this series, but it's frustrating how archaic it can be. Why isn't dialogue skippable, or at least have an instant text option like older Kingdom Hearts games? If they want the game to be competitive, why can't we freely alter stats? I dont think showing the IV value at least would break immersion much. Why is there not a team whose job it is to do balance patches or at least bug fix patches like literally every other series on Earth now? None of these things make sense to me.

It's situations like Bloodmoon Ursaluna why I can't play competitive Pokemon, at least not in game. The amount of gatekeeping zero IV Pokemon hold is nothing short of ridiculous. It's pretty easy when you're doing wild encounters and even easier when hatching eggs. But when you are wanting a Trick Room Special Attacker, good luck, because that is only happening after 500 resets. And it's not even massively necessary because only a handful of things can really mess with the Attack and Speed stat the way they do. Only, it's a Murphey's Law sort of thing mixed into a game of inches. And sure, you could get someone to do it for you or buy one, but the problem with that is that those could be duped or glitched and watchdogs are ALWAYS on that sort of thing. The people like me, the ones who always want in to competitive will always be the ones gatekept by there not being an easy fix to this frankly ridiculous problem: Make Rusted Bottle Caps, or make a legitimate in game way to manipulate IVs becides giving a 31.

I don't remember when exactly I started the hunt, but I do know I began counting my attempts at the start of the year (January 1st). At some point I decided to hunt for Shiny Giratina in Platinum just to have something else to do in the time between encounters. I got the Giratina, so I started hunting for all four Shiny Regis in Omega Ruby, with Shiny Charm. At the time of writing I'm only missing Regigigas, and I still don't have that bear after 4000+ encounters. This is stupid. Edit 2024/08/24: Welp, I got all four of the Shiny Regis and still no bear. Cool.

The thing is pokemon is I think one of the only games that cheating is arguably fair because the company that makes the game dont realize they are going against everyone trying to compete on an even playing field, you are not stronger than your oponent, you are not faster you are only saving yourself hours of mindnumbing tasks and they dont do enought, everyones talks about it but they still, somehow seem oblivions on what changes to make that is quite infuriating
@rbalvedi2823 ай бұрын
I mean, I see no reason why the Pokémon Company doesn't create a software exclusive for competitive gameplay (much like showdown). If they want profit, I see no reason not to make it a monthly fee for competitive players, people will pay and it will make the competitive scene way more accesible, as long as the monthly fee isn't something overbearing. Everyone will be in the same playing field. Ideally, there shouldn't be a fee, competitive Pokemons should be readily available much like other major e-sports (see Dota2 as an example).

A usable low speed IV Ursaluna blood moon might be a pain, but at least its a pain I don't have to spend a long time setting up in advance to obtain beyond just getting its quest. But nothing on this planet can save me from the wrath I feel thinking about getting a low speed IV base Ursaluna. Yes, I know I only need to catch or breed a slow teddiursa, but I also have to evolve it into Ursaring either without KOing wild Pokémon (more menuing) or after having spent a long time EV training it, obtain a peat block in Pokémon Legends Arceus, transfer my low speed IV Ursaring from Scarlet/Violet to PLA, wait for a full moon to happen and evolve it into Ursaluna, then transfer it back to Scarlet/Violet. It isn't nearly as monotonous and draining or even lengthy as this kind of hunt, but there is so little gameplay of either game involved with it that isn't farming or breeding or training by KOing the same Pokémon over and over that it gets tiring. Imagine if Enamorus was so good it became a meta staple... I don't think its viability was helped much at all by that fact, the world was saved by Flutter Mane being stronger.
