Hey everyone just want to clarify. John’s video discussing the trans women prisoner, Demi Minor, who impregnated two other women was indeed in consensual relationships, there was no SA or r*pe involved. I had confused his video with a different case involving a trans woman (not named) who had attempted to r*pe a woman prisoner multiple times at Riker's Island (link to that article in the description). I apologize for the mix up and misidentification and will double check the context of my research moving forward. However my point from the video still stands, John is warping the context of this case and leaving out massively important details to fit his narrative.

i fully agree with your end goal here (debunking a dumb transphobic argument), but i don't really think your rebuttal equating the claim "a trans women committing a crime in a women's prison means all trans women in women's prison will do that" to the obviously silly argument "a person wearing a hat committing a crime means all people wearing hats will do that" works. the transphobic argument is based on the claim that these trans women's transness is what ALLOWS them to commit those crimes, because their transness is what lets them in women's prisons. the hat example doesn't at all reflect that argument, because the criminal's wearing of a hat isn't related to the crime they're committing. and i think that the way the original, transphobic claim frames transness (or "faking" transness, whatever) as a PREREQUISITE to the crime being committed, makes its rhetoric even more sinister and harmful.

​@@Jane-oz7ppbut there aren't any crimes that can ONLY be committed wearing a hat (unless you come up with some ridiculously specific scenario i guess, such as "guy goes to a 'hats only' club to kill someone, so he absolutely needs to wear a hat to get in", but that's obviously not what was being talked about in Saji's example). whereas in the transphobic argument, being a trans woman (or a cis man "faking" being trans) is THE one thing that gives access to a women's prison to an inmate who was assigned male at birth, and therefore allows them to commit the crime in question.

@@agayriusi mean it would actually be easier to abuse women in prison as a man to just be a cop/guard than pretend to be trans. In order for a trans person to be sent to the gendered prison that they identify as, they have to have a lot more proof of their gender than simply saying “I’m a man/woman/whatever”. As horrific as it sounds, guards are more of a threat to women prisoners than the slim chance a man pretends to be trans to go to jail and assault women. Being trans doesn’t make it easier to abuse people but being a guard in a ton of prisons across the country does :(( I understand you’re speaking from the other side of the argument but that argument still has little to no standing

I completely agree. I also find it disturbing that these people only seem to care about the potential safety of prisoners when they’re hyper fixated on trans inmates. As if somehow it would be completely okay for a cis woman r*pist who was deemed to be a danger to other woman inmates to be housed with them.

Women can be r*pists too, and this includes trans women. Committing violent crimes does not preclude trans women from being women. Fallacies are usually for stuff that sounds good but doesn’t actually help you reach knowledge of the truth. Lying is…kind of worse than a logical fallacy? Like, if someone tried to be logical and made a mistake, that’s a logical fallacy, but if someone outright lied, they weren’t even trying to be logical, they were trying to lie. That doesn’t really even deserve a term for a specific fallacy, that’s something that would usually get you kicked out of a broader discussion on the topic.
