@@Pluralofvinylisvinylsto you, perhaps, but ‘right-wing’ comics seem to do pretty well. Where satire is concerned, the ‘punch up’ rule is largely arbitrary, and even those who agree with it will still disagree on exactly who is ‘up’. A more left-inclined person will see power in terms of economic and cultural disparity, while a more right-inclined person will see forced change and disregard for tradition as worthy of being punched at. Ultimately both overlook one important factor: satire doesn’t target the powerful so much as it does those who believe their own power (whether current or eventual) is legitimate and deserved. Progressive comics target white men, while conservative comics target progressives; in both target groups we find people who believe they ought to have power (regardless of whether or not it is currently enjoyed).

Exactly, but like they straight up seem to refuse to get the concept of punching up/twist it into a gotcha that doesn't actually make sense. Punching down is only funny from the POV of someone who thinks of themselves as above someone on a heirarchy, someone who finds it satisfying that the target has less rights. It's not funny because trying to laugh requires the reminder that some people literally want certain harmless communities suffering/dead. It's like telling a joke that alludes to murdering puppies (an example of unfunny morbidity that I hope is pretty universal?), then calling someone sensitive for not laughing because "I'm not literally doing it!! Can't you take a joke???" It doesn't skirt by on absurdism or reclaiming like other morbid jokes when it's just a dry description of something messed up and soothes the ones committing the atrocity.

Like I know it's low effort chum purely created to grift right wingers, but you'd think just over time like the general level of skill would go up. Like he perpetually seems uncomfortable on camera, is it just me? Either he's just never thought to figure out how to edit these videos better or he has a bad editor, there's so much dead air in his videos. The sound quality is also dreadful, but nowadays you can just buy a nice mic and some plugins for your audio software that can fix this stuff pretty decently with little to no effort. It's the fascinating thing about genuinely bad media like this, is not just that it's bad, his 'skits' are bad from conception to performance to the edit, there's no saving any of it, but like how after all these years did he not get just a little better by accident? I remember he had a skit that went round on Facebook SOOOO long ago now, not long after the timeline changed to push more video, it was some stupid thing about a vegan pizza that was basically all cucumber. I remember thinking at the time, this isn't that funny but there's a kernel of something here. This guy will probably refine his craft and get better in time. Nope. That categorically did not happen. Something that I firmly believe is that if you want to make a good joke about a marginalized community that you aren't a part of, you have to actually understand that community. For example, I'm trans and I know a lot of cis people who make funny jokes about trans people because they know trans people and understand our experiences. Most conservative comics don't care to do that so you end up with the hacky, overdone "my pronouns are ____" and "don't assume my gender" jokes.

This. A lot of conservative comedy is based on far outdated stereotypes. It always feels like an attempt to push people out of the norm into obscurity. The goal of right wing comedy is claps, not laughs. That might seem like a trivial distinction, but it’s really not. Right wing comics don’t have to be funny, they just need to validate the audience’s positions. That’s why they can get away with making the same “I identify as” joke over and over again, not because it’s funny, but simply because they agree with the premise.

I'd argue that it's worse if he doesn't really believe this stuff. If anything, intentionally spreading fascist ideology to make money from (often working class) people's bigoted ignorance is worse.

@@Aencii slippery slope i guess, he's just a grifter no matter what, so there's no moral ground for him to stand on anyway.

I laughed harder at your badge number than I did at anything the ‘comedian’ said. That got such a dumb giggle out of me.

@9:00 No, Saji, you don't get it! He's saying that Conservatives are grifting the fake liberals that act leftist because they also don't care about the stuff they sell....Honestly, "Conservatives are grifters" is the most honest skit message he's ever done.
