Gallagher has bad contract but at least he brings a bit of value. Anderson has a much worse contract since he has negative value. Not sure about that ranking...

As a Flames fan, Huberdeau should of been #1 over Nurse. Nurse #2 though.

Ryan Graves is a horrible contract for Pittsburgh, he's literally getting 4.5 mil guaranteed next 4 years roughly to be a soft parking cone. Karlsson terrible as well. 9.9 mil the next 3 years to be the top (-) guy on the roster. Dubas doin work for Pittsburgh

I wonder is there is something you can do to take off Johnny Gaudreau from this list, out of respect. Maybe replace him with another player whose contract is really bad for their team? My suggestions would be Tom Wilson or Colton Parayko.

Stephenson and Lindholm didn’t even play a game yet. It’s WAY too soon to judge their contract

It's almost like we have had years of these players in the league already and have a rough idea of what to expect going forward. Pretty much anyone worth their salt has said that the Lindholm/Zadorov and Stephenson/Montour signings are by far some of the more risky and pricey contracts signed this free agency by teams desperately trying to either stay or become competitive.

@@etiennemore1704 not everyone gets better as they enter their 30s dude hyman is a different beast ALSO he is on the wings of mcdavid/drai so while he could be a 25-40 goal scorer without them he also gets stats padded being with them his defense tho is great

One thing that COULD help PLD with the Caps is, apparently and from his own mouth, he prefers playing with Russian players. He likes the way they play and how they see the game. Looking back on his career you can see that he and Panarin had something cooking and maybe JUST MAYBE he can light it up with Ovi? That's optimistic and I am a Caps fan. So I'm choosing to be optimistic, albeit cautiously so.

My biggest problem with Jones isn't even his contract at this point. It's the fact that he complained about being on a rebuilding team when he's the idiot who signed with the team. He thinks he should be the captain when the only options should be Bedard or Foligno. Also despite his stats last season there were multiple times where he refused to pass to Bedard, look at the Kane ot winner against the Hawks, it all happened because Jones wouldn't pass. His attitude is crap and I just want him gone.

Montreal fans acting like Gallagher 6.5,Anderson 5.5,Dvorak 4.5m but in money paid out this year its 5.75m arnt bad need to wake up. And now Laine at 8.7m hope he returns to form. Other bad contracts NealPionk at 6m I agree Nurse,Gaudreau 9.7m,Huberdeau,PLD if he doesnt rebound,for his age Oshie at 5.75m. I really like Trouba just not at that cap Same with Jones/Werenski

As a habs fan i hate the contracts we gave to Gally Andy and Dvorak worst one being Dvorak imo since he plays like 30 max since we acquired him all 3 are waste of cap space but i doubt we’ll be able to move any lf them

I understand you're using context a lot in order to rank these, and in some way I appreciate that it's not the usual worst contract list, but at some some point I gotta admit that it become more about which teams are most affected by their contracts rather than the evaluation of each contracts compared to each other.

I have just got wind your videos in the past few weeks. Gotta say, I enjoy your work...well thought out analysis. As an objective hockey fan and a Leaf fan, I would concerned about William Nylander 11.5m X 8 year contract. Dman Tanev and his 4.5m X 6 years is one that may not age well. This summer more than any other years teams signed players to contracts that took them to mid to late 30s, The "wall" can hit very suddenly especially for Dmen when they lose skating ability. We'll see how some of these contracts look in the 2030.

Merzlikins just hasn't been the same since Kivi died. Jarmo signed him to that deal based on one season where Korpisalo was hurt, and i think the Jackets banked on the wrong goalie, even with hindsight being 20/20.

As a Caps fan i watched maybe 30 of those 33 games that Kuemper played and he was just simply awful. He maybe has the worst rebound control that i have ever seen by an NHL goalie and he also gives way too many soft goals. I have no idea how he was able to get 13 wins last season😂 4y left on his contract with 5.25M cap hit so i think he will be on this list next summer because that contract will hurt Kings and imo he is not even a NHL backup level goalie. Maybe Kings can make a miracle happen and he will be solid but i would not bet on that😂

I feel like holland sabotage the Oilers honestly who would ever sign a 2 mil contract player to over 9 mil thats crazy. Even a bum off the streets could be a better gm with that signing. Gallagher (short term, MTL rebuilding) and Krug (short term, STL can still build) are too high, Huberdeau (long term, gonna decline) / Gaudreau/ Copp (3rd line but only 3 years, DET could've tried to build otherwise) are too low

Gallaghers contract shouldnt be that high, for an injury riddled forward, he played the whole season aside from a suspension, and scored 16 goals. Even aaay from his on ice, hes THE veteran presence. Hes the heart and soul of the montreal canadians and such an amazing leader.

Problem with making constant regular videos is that people will inevitably disagree so here goes: this is a Bad list. Seth Jones is Top 5 maybe Top 3 worst. Seguin is easily Top 10 . Not sure why Gallagher is even Top 5 let alone Top 10. He is only 31 and has only 3 years left at $6.5. He was OK last year and could be better this year. There are plenty worse contracts

For comparison, Hughes and Makar, two player Nurse is getting more money than lowest scoring seasons are 41 & 44 respectivly. This was during the Covid seasons A.K.A didn't even play a full season. Nurse best season is 43 points in a 82 game season.

Maybe, but among Canadian NHL teams, I still consider the existing contracts of Elias Pettersson, Jonathan Huberdeau, Darnell Nurse, John Tavares and Mitch Marner to be huge overpays.

Stamkos who will be cooked in 2 years without that TB PP Joel Edmundson lol 2 more years with a wonky back Kotkaniemi will still be top10 worst (not sure why not here) Josh Norris and his shoulder for another 4 years Ivan Barbachev (never should have signed him) for 2 more years as a bottom 6

He fell just outside the top 10 on The Athletic this year as well because of the remaining term. Adding in the fact that the Sharks aren't concerned about cap right now, it's not as big of an issue either.

Shocked the Oilers did not buy out Nurse. Buying Nurse out would have given the Oilers a two year window and with the cap increase over the next 3 years would have minimized the buyout. Buying out Nurse the Oilers could have kept Ceci and Broberg and still have 4.5 M to upgrade with. Now unless Nurse is on LTIR at the trade deadline the Oilers will not even reach the final 4 in 2025. Here is hoping they buy Nurse out in 2025.
