As a massive DGD fan, I’m so sorry for the possible backlash you may get for putting them where you did. The fandom, has a way of tearing apart anyone who they think disrespects Mess and the vocalist at the time of recording the song. I personally don’t mind the cover but can see how you wouldn’t like it. They tend to avoid covers as they don’t like them which is why they have so few in their discography.
@jandolezal93412 жыл бұрын
I'd go with Five Finger Death Punch's cover of Gone Away by The Offspring. I love this song so much and to me this version sounds like they basically remove all the energy and emotions from the original. I also hate how they've changed the meaning of the lyrics from Dexter singing about his girlfriend's death to celebration of US troops. I can't believe it has three times more views on KZbin than the original video.

Ahh yeah, that one sucks. I don't actually like Five Finger Death Punch's music at all, though, so it'd be hard for me find a cover of an already great song "better". I was looking through the comments to look for this one, because I really wanted to defend it as it feels like it's got more emotion, actually. Like when you want to listen to something to feel after someone passed away, I love that song. But any other time, the original is such a banger.

Oh my God, I completely forgot about that YFM cover of "Love the Way You Lie." What's funny is that, even though I didn't care for the rest of RWJ's content at the time, I happened to like YFM quite a bit ten years ago. There are still some songs of theirs that I don't hate ("White Boy Wasted," even though I can easily see why people may dislike it, even loathe it, has this nostalgic quality for me), but my God, that "Love the Way You Lie" cover is so awful. Proof positive that some fads from the earlier KZbin days should just stay dead.

One that really rubs me the wrong way is the Bad Wolves cover of "Zombie" by the Cranberries. They turned what was originally a powerful and emotional commentary on the conflict in Northern Ireland into a generic anti-war song that doesn't do the original any justice. I'm going to go with "Glee"'s cover of "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)". First of all, did the cast even get the surviving members of The Beasties' permission to cover that song, and second of all, did they even know what that song is about? The Beastie Boys strongly disliked the song, because it was written as a mockery of all the party-themed songs that came out in the mid-80's (Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock" and Motley Crue's cover of "Smokin' in the Boys Room"). I don't know what the cast of "Glee" were thinking, but I bet Adam Yauch was rolling over in his grave, when he heard that egregious cover.

Madonna's cover of Don McLean's "Americans Pie." This came out around the same time as Weird Al's "The Saga Begins" (a parody of "Star Wars Ep. I: The Phantom Menace," set to the tune of "American Pie."), and Weird Al's parody was more respectful of the original. A Subnormality comic referenced this song to describe a cover "completely trashing on the original." From what I understand, the only person who liked this cover is Don McLean himself-but Don McLean has actually come to hate "American Pie" because it's the only song anyone ever asks him about and has eclipsed everything else he's done.

An interesting for a SOS would be 7 songs that are interpreted/impacted differently in different countries. (For example, a song originally from the UK or Canada can have a different perception when it is heard in the US, like what is supposed to be a protest song in one country can get regarded a feel-good or party song when heard in another country)
@MedalionDS92 жыл бұрын
To be fair... the Limp Bizkit Faith thing... you had to be there... when Alternative Rock was dying out... along comes Nu-Metal Rap Rock outfit Limp Bizkit and it was a fresh yet funny and intentional pisstake... yes it's not a serious or good cover, but it has its weird fun if you wanna go caveman stupid for the energy... it especially works if you were never a fan of the original. Trains: I can Tolerate. Limp Bizkit: One of my most hated. Fred sounds so whiney and pathetic. Family Force 5: Meh. All I get is they didn't care, so it's a meh. RWJ/YFM: He's decent when he tries. The cover, he doesn't have the right voice for it. Falling in Reverse: WTF? That sounded terrible. Not the worst I've heard, still pretty bad. U2: Ever wonder why they got haters? Doesn't bother me as badly. Still, sound like amateur hour at karaoke. Dance Gavin Dance: Oh dear god, you gave me my new number 2 hated cover. Worst than Durst. As for what I consider my most hated, I only have two. Madonna's American Pie: Very slow, tone is detached from the lyrics, she sounds drunk when "singing" it. That's one reason why I can tolerate some bad music. Cake's I will survive: My most hated cover. Instruments are a saving grace, but the vocal, dear god. Same as above, but worse. Lyrics are incomprehensible. Profanity is randomly splashed in to sound cool. The singer sounds more like a perpetual victim than a survivor. Complete with droning and monotone voice that is sang louder rather than higher.

Interesting you chose Faith instead of Behind Blue Eyes! I like the Faith cover, but hate Behind Blue Eyes! I agree with all of your other picks! Great video!

@@samac4323 even without the speak and spell, Freds whiny monotone voice makes the cover unlistenable imo.

Two come to mind: 1) All Saints' cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under the Bridge" - replacing raw and open emotion with vapid overproduction and cluelessness about the song's original subject matter. Seriously, listen to some of AS' interviews about the song - the quote was something along the lines of "I think the original song was about drugs, or something". Well, bugger me sideways. 2) Muse's version of "House of the Rising Sun" - It must always be said that Matt Bellamy's vocals seem to be 70% inhalation, 15% indecipherable falsetto, and 10% actual singing (also often indecipherable). Add to that a completely unneeded amount of guitar effects, Chris Wolstenholme's typically Bellamy-dictated snoozefest of a bass line, and Dom Howard's drumming rendered ineffectual by terrible production, and... ow, my ears!

Don’t forget Train had the Audacity to cover an entire Led Zeppelin album. To me that’s much more egregious than covering a Doors song.

But Train is one of my favorite bands. They did Hey Soul Sister, Drive By, Play That Song, Drops of Jupiter, Meet Virginia, Calling All Angels and lots of other great songs. Their best cover was Imagine by John Lennon. It had the pitch changed to E-flat and had drums and guitars.

That cover of 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' that played at the very end of Season 1 of Royals. Don't know who it was by. Don't care. It was overproduced, overly moody, soulless movie trailer music that, while it fit the context of the show, really doesn't have any reason to be listened to beyond that.
